Here's the video of my first few laps on Mid-Ohio during the Acura High Performance Course. I have 30 minutes of raw footage via my Google Glass, so I cut it to the first few laps. I am the "#11" the instructor on the radio refers to.

I'm a track noob, so please forgive my lame moves. Enjoy!

I'm going back for more.

Unless you want "stance" your offset should be above 50 with a 9 - 10 inch wheel. I've got 17x9 +60 offset PF01SS wheels and they sit a little less than flush with about 3 deg of camber. functional is what's sexy on this car.

Google glass looks really cool for the track. That helmet view is sweet. Cool possibilities too. Maybe an app that connects to OBD2 by bluetooth and has a shift light or other info on it

So you're running a non-staggered set I assume.

Are there any drawbacks from doing this?
Or any benefits to sticking to a staggered arrangement on this car?

In theory, you'll have better steering feel with smaller tires up front.

I want to say a staggered setup = more oversteer.

There's a lot more grip in the front, so you have to balance it out by getting a bigger front sway bar. No real downsides. Staggered setups waste such potential

such grip

Btw, I knew this would be a car that drew attention and questions (similar to my ruckus)
But it's funny to see the reactions when people find out it's a honda.. It's as if they are invisible to people that aren't involved in the car scene..

Vert+RWD honda makes people scratch their heads

We miss you honda glory days.

I was asked to re-post this here. Hell, I didn't even know ACURAzine had an "Official S2K" thread! I sure am happy to be a part of it, though!

2000 Honda S2000 AP1, 101K miles, red/black interior. Mostly stock and unmolested. Purchased 4/18/14.

Mods discovered in car so far:
Stock head unit replaced with Pioneer DEH-P9400BH and speakers
Custom interface to allow stock radio controls to function on aftermarket head unit (not sure which)
Stock radio cover plate replaced with AP2 cover
Custom red leather center console cover
Custom shifter boot with red stitching
Blox gunmetal shift knob
Little fender thingies in front of rear wheels

Mods I've already added in 2 weeks of ownership:
LED brake lights
LED dome lights
LED footwell lights (These cars are DARK at night!)
LED license plate light
De-badged the fender "S2000" logos
Replaced convertible top striker plates with hardtop striker plates
Modifry glovebox organizer
Modifry phone bracket and holder
Replaced floor mat hold down post

Future plans:
Repair drivers seat
Black chrome emblems---maybe red, not sure yet
Odyssey foglights
Replace top (I hate the plastic window)
GM Synchromesh tranny fluid

Anyone know what may cause oil to leak from here. I've had over a week and today was the first time I noticed some oil in this Allen bolt. I actual wiped some off before the pic. It wasn't much but just wondering.

^ That particular bolt holds the idle gear & cam chain sprocket in place - don't pull it or you'll have some issues.

From what I've read on on s2ki, you'll need to pull the valve cover and replace the washer that holds that allen bolt in place.

I looked under the hood of my car and somebody actually put silicone on mine .

Edit:

I've just read that you can back the bolt out just enough to expose the o-ring and pull it off, replace, and tighten back to specs.

if it continues to leak, i'll do that.

OK, gents, need some problem solving help

Recently, I've heard a mild grinding (not whirring, whirling, or whining) noise at all forward speeds above about 20 mph, with clutch in or out. It sounds like it's coming from behind me. It's not typical of differential noise, though I did have my diff oil changed to be sure. Clutch works fine, no change.

Dunno if it's tire noise; my tires are not particularly worn. I've been doing some searching and found a possibility

One possibility is the bearings from the secondary shaft on the transmission.

Thread here:
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/4096...whining-noise/

Anyone had this experience? Any other ideas? I'm planning on taking it to the dealer soon for them to take a look. I'd like to get this sorted before the driving season is too far underway.

Wheel bearing?
Have you tightened the axle nut?
I have gotten a mild grinding when my bearing was going out.

I am not sure what sound you are describing but all my previous s2000 and all the s2000 i know have a buzzing sound right around 2700 rpm, the buzzing is more noticeable in 1st or 2nd gear.

The sound is not tire related. sounds more like the diff or tranny.

If that is the sound u are describing, then it is normal. You probably never drove it enough to notice it before.

Why didn't you go with AEM V2?

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'm going to head to the dealer for peace of mind.

If I have time (been super-busy with work recently), I'll try to make a recording of the sound. That will be a HUGE challenge as the S2000 is, as you all know, a rather noisy car and it's hard to isolate some sounds because of the cacophony. (Not complaining.....all convertibles are noisy and the sound of 9k rpm is the most important noise! )

Ken, you make me want to install an intake in my S! It's the only "low hanging fruit" mod I haven't done yet.

I got it for $100 locally. The guy didn't ever do anything with it.

The heat shield and rubber lining seem to work well, no more heatsoak than stock.

Car goes into the shop for valve adjustment tonight - should have her back by tomorrow afternoon

I'm also planning on purchasing a second car to keep the miles off the S2000 - buying a 97 Civic coupe for dirt dirt cheap.

Nice! I'd like to pick up an EK hatch or something similar to keep the miles off as well, especially as it becomes more of a racecar

There's nothing wrong with putting miles on your car. Cars are meant to be driven - unless you bought some rare, limited production model and it has the chance of increasing in value with low miles.

I can see getting a second car if your main car gets modded to the point where daily driveability is dwindled or maintenance costs skyrocket - but otherwise, why?

*raises hand*

This is the logic I'm using for driving my S more. I'm already at 22.5k miles on my unicorn CTS-V in less than 18 months. S2000 will never approach the level of unicornian rarity of a stick V wagon. ~1500 v wagons (WAG 30% stick) vs 60k S2000s.

Mulling over winter options since I don't want to drive my V in winter storms again and now want to limit miles.

If it checks out, I'll be picking up a car worthy of my 20 mile daily commute for less than a grand - here's the pros that run through my head:

1 - Don't have to worry about door dings, front of the lot VIP parking baby.
2 - Don't have to worry about theft.
3 - Better MPG (upper 20s / lower 30s for the 4cyl Auto)
4 - More space (I miss being able to throw stuff in my back seat, rather than constantly re-arranging stuff on the floor / passenger seat)
5 - Much quieter and comfortable
6 - Putting the mindless commuting time & traffic on a POS

I think it's worth it ... I'll put the more purposeful miles on the S while I put the mind numbing miles on the Civic?
