The Official Honda S2000 Thread
I've never driven a NSX on a track. The one I did drive was for a short distance...and it was a little beat up. It was a NA1.
The NSX is a genuinely fast car. Easily in the league of its contemporary Ferarris, Porsches, Corvettes, etc.
The S2000 is somewhat competitive at that level, but its clearly punching above its weight.
The NSX also doesn't need to be wrung out as hard to go fast. And the NSX is much more comfortable.
They're different cars for different czars.

If I lived in CA, I'd probably buy a NSX as a DD...and I'd just convert my S2000 for hardcore ass track use and buy a Landcruiser to tow it.
Only reason being that the S2000 is already sorted out.
I'd track the NSX, though. Can't buy a NSX and not track it. Thats a tragic occurence.
People are starting to K swap NSX's now. I heard a friend talking about doing it about a year ago. I think someone else is working on one now.

Yeah, the one being worked now is a guy that already had the motor fully built/boosted in another car. He parted his previous car out (sans motor setup) and bought a NSX shell to put the engine setup in.

What do you guys think of these two?
Low mileage, almost within my budget...
2005 Honda s2000
Higher mileage, possibly more wiggle room...that black/black
2005 Honda S2000 AP2. Adult owned. New tops

For me, it's weird seeing an example of a car you pamper the fuck out everyday being totally neglected. I mean, this shit was bad ... multiple rips in the top, vegetation & water damage on the seats, beat to shit panels, clearly had been sitting for awhile ... it was bad bruh.
True - that's the reality of the situation.

Since we're on the subject of ripped tops, whats the usual cost for something like that? I think J replaced his recently if I'm not mistaken....Luckily I have a carport but still would want a nice new top on there.
Personally, I would rather take an adult owned & higher highway mileage car assuming the maintenance records were on point and the car had matching VIN stickers on every panel.

The first car looks beat.
I was lucky, my car's top was only a year old when I scooped it up. 2 years later, this thing shows no sign of wear.

oh well, at least i left a little
on the passenger seat
The owner of the silver one is kidding themselves asking that much for a beat up example. People ride the bandwagon of the inflating value of the S2000 but never realize that the inflating value is for great to mint condition examples and not beat to shit ones.
Depends on how bad and if you want an aftermarket top or not. Sometimes the top can be patched (you can DIY this) but if not, it's like in the $1500 range including the top to get it done. I personally wouldn't DIY it but there certainly have been plenty of people who have.
S2000 prices are so volatile right now. The economy is getting better...but the new Miata and several good versions of the Mustang are on the market.
In 08 to about 2013, the S2000 prices were great. Recession + BRZ + 370Z. Now that people have realized that S2000>BRZ and have completely forgotten about the 370Z, and the economy got better...and Honda stopped making S2000's....the prices are WAY high.
In 2009, my friend bought a 06 GPW/Black (ultra rare) for $16k with like 60k on it!!!!!!!!
They didnt make a 2013 S2000....so the closest thing to compare would be to imagine seeing a 2009 S2000 with 60K today. $25k?
Obama should use S2000 prices in his "shit is better off now" speeches.

I just looked locally what they have and I see some RHD ones. I guess they are legal now for import from Japan to Canada. I don't know what importing laws are like in US, but with a strong US dollar over canadian you can get a 1999-2001 in Vancouver with very low KM for $10k US
I don't know anything about US importing laws so i am just guessing here.
I dunno the intricacies of it all, but I believe Canadian cars are considered to still be USDM. Importing a car from Europe or Japan falls under different rules.
A car sold in Japan was built to meet Japanese safety requirements. Even though a JDM car is in canada, importing to the US does not mean it is now a Canadian car. It still has a JDM VIN, etc.
Also, The 15 or 25 year rules do not apply to Canadian vehicles going to the US, or vice versa. At the same time, I've heard that it is no longer all that easy to get a new car from Canada to the US. I've heard some of the rules changed, but I can't really confirm this. I mean, you can still do it, but it's not as lucrative as it was about a decade ago. The government makes you jump through a lot of hoops to get it done and from what I've gathered, it's not always worth doing it.
Like I said, I'm not thoroughly versed in all of this, but I don't think it's that simple. Otherwise there'd be a shit ton more skylines and other JDM cars in the US now. The US does not like JDM cars at all.

Well anyways, I see lots of nice clean low KM s2000 for sale now in Vancouver. It would be a fun car to get, but they are on par with Canadian cars' prices. So I guess you would get one because RHD is JDM as f*ck!!!

A super clean R32 GT-R goes for about 25k ....
And yes, you guessed it. The idea of owning one has crossed my mind
