Honda CRV. (Or HRV)
Why stuck on Porsche?
I guess I can understand...no offense to your family....but seeing lot of asians who has or is coming into money they only want luxury brands (BMW, Mercedes, etc.)
I see lot of old asian ladies here driving S-class and 7-series.....

The stereotype is mostly true, even though my ex (fam from Hong Kong) was different. She bought a house by herself in the Bay Area. Made 2x as much as I did and that was never a problem.
She had a BMW. Instead wanted something reliable, fun to drive, fuel efficient and affordable so I kept pushing her towards Hondas. Even knowing what she really wanted, she was still like "nope".
Her dad was a successful businessman so she only wanted a luxury car to maintain an image with her family's business partners.
my sister, but yeah same thing. "Really???"Ex actually got mad at me for continuing to suggest different year accords. I even tried to teach her how to drive stick because she wanted fun.
My sister literally said she "would be caught dead before she was in a Hyundai". I guess that's an indicator of how difficult it is to overcome brand perceptions.
This was after we rode in a very nice Kia K900 Uber, too. She was really impressed by that car, yet...

It's taken me years to overcome my bias against Korean cars. But the fact is, they make good cars these days.
I asked "do you want it?" She said No before i finished my question.

I'd wish I was able to see the day where endless
are driving a white BMW Aztek around and barely able to park it. :
Isn't that the basis of Lexus? All their models initially were available as Toyotas and well, shallow peeps would pay that for a "Toyota" and so, Lexus was born.
No other business case really.
The mission statement of Lexus when it was spawned: "To sell Toyotas to shallow people."

But that is the basis for all Luxury goods.. It s nothing new. it has been around since the beginning of time.

Oh and MSport all the things because it's like printing money to sell these to schmucks who can't afford an actual M car.
Seriously though, BMW has the worst and most confusing product naming structure of all time.
Changed from 335i to 340i without actually changing anything just to sell more because 40 > 30.

335i had N54 and N55 and 340 has B58 that is water cooled, closed deck engine.
All the germans are the same.. and the Japanese are joining too.... we dont agree but it is part of the business.
S line, fake AMG, M sport, Aspec, F sport...
At least M sport and fake AMG actually get some performance related upgrade.
THAT being said, if a brand particularly hits all my requirements and then some, I don't care so much about the GENERAL perception. So, if a Toyota met all my requirements, heck yes...I'd be in one. I don't need a "Lexus" badge to imply premium.
Hey man...I'm the big brand whore. I am one because I know there is general guaranteed level of quality with a particular brand. That's how brands work.

Some things don't need to be said
You know 340 has a new engine right? and it has about 50 more hp than 335i when both are put on the dyno.

It's definitely part of the business and it's for sure working too. Whatever works I guess.

They still are. The grille has nothing to do with that except Lexus' desire to re-envision the company's image, much like Cadillac's success in the last 10 years. People joke, but the grille does what it's supposed to and there's a big reason you're seeing Toyota incorporate larger grilles on the new Avalon & Corolla.
