I guess I can understand...no offense to your family....but seeing lot of asians who has or is coming into money they only want luxury brands (BMW, Mercedes, etc.)

I see lot of old asian ladies here driving S-class and 7-series.....
I suggested a lot of vehicles actually. RDX (I actually like it, especially the interior), CRV as well, Jeep GC, even a bunch of sedans, but nope.

The stereotype is mostly true, even though my ex (fam from Hong Kong) was different. She bought a house by herself in the Bay Area. Made 2x as much as I did and that was never a problem.

She had a BMW. Instead wanted something reliable, fun to drive, fuel efficient and affordable so I kept pushing her towards Hondas. Even knowing what she really wanted, she was still like "nope".

Her dad was a successful businessman so she only wanted a luxury car to maintain an image with her family's business partners.

my sister, but yeah same thing. "Really???"

Ex actually got mad at me for continuing to suggest different year accords. I even tried to teach her how to drive stick because she wanted fun.

I wouldn't be one bit concerned about that Legend
They made quality rides then and Hockeyman has quite the stable

My sister literally said she "would be caught dead before she was in a Hyundai". I guess that's an indicator of how difficult it is to overcome brand perceptions.

This was after we rode in a very nice Kia K900 Uber, too. She was really impressed by that car, yet...

At the right price, it is a very nice car. Just not at 50-60k.
Most people don't know anything about the RLX not to mention the hybrid version or what it's capable of

And definitely rare.

It's taken me years to overcome my bias against Korean cars. But the fact is, they make good cars these days.

Dayum. Now I feel maybe I should've bought an RLX.

Joking aside. I personally like the last gen. RL. The first one with SH-AWD...still love it.

We recently took an Kia Sorento Uber. i think it was the fully loaded ones. Black with dark red interior.. very nice car. Even my GF was very impressed and told me she loves the interior.
I asked "do you want it?" She said No before i finished my question.

You did it all wrong. You should have taped BMW badges over the Kia badges, and she would've instantly wanted one

I dont doubt that for 1 sec...

Also if you taped the Acura emblem with BMW on the RLX, it would have sold 10x.

Considering they were able to sell the X6 so readily, yeah...you take an Aztek and slap on the BMW badge and it would've been a best-seller.

I'd wish I was able to see the day where endless are driving a white BMW Aztek around and barely able to park it. :

Isn't that the basis of Lexus? All their models initially were available as Toyotas and well, shallow peeps would pay that for a "Toyota" and so, Lexus was born.

No other business case really.

The mission statement of Lexus when it was spawned: "To sell Toyotas to shallow people."

Yeah a really nice fucking boring to drive, with anemic handling, below average power output and fuel economy, yet reliable AF that will outlast the human race Toyota you piece of shit.

Changed from 335i to 340i without actually changing anything just to sell more because 40 > 30.

Oh and MSport all the things because it's like printing money to sell these to schmucks who can't afford an actual M car.

Seriously though, BMW has the worst and most confusing product naming structure of all time.

You know 340 has a new engine right? and it has about 50 more hp than 335i when both are put on the dyno.
335i had N54 and N55 and 340 has B58 that is water cooled, closed deck engine.

All the germans are the same.. and the Japanese are joining too.... we dont agree but it is part of the business.

Lexus is a little behind the curve now, they're catching up.
But in the 90s, they slayed. Particularly the LS400.
I've driven several as well as their German competition.
It definitely holds it's own.

Hey man...I'm the big brand whore. I am one because I know there is general guaranteed level of quality with a particular brand. That's how brands work.

THAT being said, if a brand particularly hits all my requirements and then some, I don't care so much about the GENERAL perception. So, if a Toyota met all my requirements, heck yes...I'd be in one. I don't need a "Lexus" badge to imply premium.

The Seiko will forever be verification/proof of what I wrote to oonowindoo that I don't go with "brand power" strictly.

Does the 888 thing only work if you're Asian?

Nope, no clue. Thought it was just marketing BS like the C450 magically becoming the C43 AMG overnight.

It's definitely part of the business and it's for sure working too. Whatever works I guess.

If no, then no it doesnt work.

If yes, then yes it does work. You should follow everything we do... like 6s, 8s, 9s red, gold and other stuff...

When the ES was a blatant rebadge, yeah. It's as Maj has said, they realized their brand. And partly because the desire has to been to reach out to a younger crowd.

They still are. The grille has nothing to do with that except Lexus' desire to re-envision the company's image, much like Cadillac's success in the last 10 years. People joke, but the grille does what it's supposed to and there's a big reason you're seeing Toyota incorporate larger grilles on the new Avalon & Corolla.
