A lot of cars have "lifetime" tranny/diff fluid and have removed the fill plugs - VW is one of them. Lifetime typically just means the life of the factory warranty.

So does Lexus. The previous gen IS didn't even have a drain port for the tranny fluid.
I consider exotic cars to be the hand built, small volume, bespoke things like Ferraris, the real Lambos (Aventador), etc. Even then, the issues are almost never the engine itself, it's usually something else that takes the car down.
Same. I'm torn between getting a GT350 or Cayman and daily driving the Jeep or offloading the Golf for a Tesla or lightly used CPO AMG wagon/Porsche sport turismo wagon. Though if Caddy brings back the real V wagon with manual, I'm all in on that.

As far as my wife I learned years ago I can do what I want if I am willing to put up with a sh!tstorm & choose my battles with care. Having her onboard with things generally makes life much easier. I have gone against her wishes and usually wish I had chosen the path of lesser resistance.

Thanks. Now I HAVE to find out how the f00k they fill them.
lol
I'm assuming before they are installed through the drain? That would mean the transmission has to come off to fill it. Wholly sh!t!
This is great!

Speaking of transmissions - I swapped the factory trans fluid out for Motul Gear 300 last night. In the process, I found out that VW has two different transmission housings - one with a fill plug and one without. Guess which one I have![Bored](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/bored.gif)
Thankfully, there is a bolt that can be removed at the top of the transmission to add fluid, but you have to pay attention to how much you are adding so you don't overfill. VW is really pushing this lifetime fluid BS... The new fluid definitely smoothed out shifting once it's up to temp. I think gear lash at low speeds (which was amplified by the single mass flywheel) is lessened as well.

I did a dsg service on the S4 but I don't remember there being a drain hole...I had to pull the pan regardless to access the filters so it didn't matter.
Refilling was annoying and I recall running a hose outside the engine bay higher up to let gravity do it's thing...but it was a very specific process of
starting fill when temp reached exactly 41 degrees cellulite or whatever.

On the tundra, I had to get it up to temp, measure the trans temp with Techstream, open the valve that forces the trans cooler open (tow package) fill to fluid dripping out of the fill plug. Drive to get the fluid to flow.
Of course all of that was after pulling the pan, changing the filter and associated cleaning of the magnets & filling the not cheap fluid.
Took three cycles to get fully clean fluid running through the system.

I doubt the 6k lb CrewMax has a 6cyl which is the only Tundra available (not sure of 2020) manual. I know I would not want to drive a 6 Cyl Tundra.
The X5 was easy in comparison.
Yup
Also,

Going from a car with a backup camera to one without a backup camera wasn't fun. That's definitely a piece of tech I have to get used to living without again.

Here's an odd twist. I found an M2 on Truecar I like. For sh!ts & giggles I entered the Tundra info to see the trade in offer, with only having aftermarket radio, they deducted 1500. WTF?
Forget it has a 1500.00 Pioneer NEX 2 year old but top of the line DVD NAV HU, Pioneer amps, Hertz speakers, JL sub fully integrated into the oem system & steering wheel controls professionally installed I get I'm not getting the close to 5k spent but -1500. No.

Usually you get screwed on trade-ins. If not they will find another way. You probably know but sadly aftermarket add-ons rarely add value to a car, especially not what they should be worth.
I made the decision a while ago that whatever mods I do, I do for my own enjoyment. Keeping the miles off for resale value is just making the car nice for the next owner.
Helps me not justify a "weekend car" but maybe that's just a bit of cognitive dissonance.

It also has (retail) 1400 per 2020 Sequoia LEDS that I spent about 1200 on used that make it look newer than a 2020 Tundra & 1500 ARB bullbar, 1000 winch, 700 powercoated steel rear Ranchhand bumper 2018 Tundra interior etc.
It's an SR5 but has limited Optiron gauges & Auto AC that was a hassle to get in there and makes it much nicer to drive.
KBB with mileage dealer sale price is currently 15k-18 bone stock.
No way aftermarket accessories can reasonably cause a deduction.

WTF? Toyota trucks hold their value like crazy, that wasn't right at all. I thought given the trade-in offer that it was maybe an early '00s model. Suppose the requirement of a diagnostic tool to do a trans fluid exchange should have been a hint...
Definitely private party it, if nobody bites for what you feel is right return it to stock.

I know the rule is generally that mods don't add value, but they occasionally can for the right buyer/market. A dealer trade-in will almost never appreciate any kind of modification.
A $1500 deduction for car audio is hilarious, though.

It's funny, I listed some mods & forgot the important ones. It has a S&B cai, Doug Thorley long tube headers, full dual exhaust, and a tune all which makes it stupendous fun to drive, I remembered when I just went to get lunch and embarrassed a Challenger that thought he would walk all over the lumbering truck.
lol

It's a 2010. I have never expected to get mod money back and agree it's insane not driving the vehicle (truck has 182k) I expect 15k and won't let it go for less, I don't need to sell it. It has over 10k spent on mods (for me) but I do expect to be able to say the 2k old 3k in suspension isn't making it worth that much more but it sure as hell goes towards upkeep done and no use deduction like the tires needing to be replaced would. (It has new tires also)
It also has (retail) 1400 per 2020 Sequoia LEDS that I spent about 1200 on used that make it look newer than a 2020 Tundra & 1500 ARB bullbar, 1000 winch, 700 powercoated steel rear Ranchhand bumper 2018 Tundra interior etc.
