yeah but you'd have a badass car,
be free to see new sets of boobs
and she'd have no money to take 1/2 of
because it would be tied up in that car.

i get that $90k for a car is a lot of money in absolute but think about it, a decked out toyota camry XSE with all the TRD trimming is close to $40k nowadays... a Camry... think about something like the RS4 Avant and even EV pushing tech and prices up, i've just accepted that 70-90k might be the new norm for pricing... at least for cars of this territory...

Fair point. Compared to the loaded-out econoboxes, doubling the price & getting so much more car doesn't seem as terrible.
Especially when E63S Estates were something like $135k new.

Depends on the situation I guess. Plus it's hard for me to get used to the depreciation on pretty much any car $50k and up.

I started stretching my budget and then I realized... this couple that I am friends with who are both in relatively senior engineering positions at Google and Facebook decided to opt for "just" a Model 3. Made me reassess things.

I have had the itch, but man. I will just live vicariously through you guys

I'm ok with $40k being the new norm, but $90k is more than 2x that amount.

Whatever though, if you have the means, then go for it! #YOLO

He's got a good eye.

I have a couple of photog friends who offered to snag images of my car but I told them Optimas are everywhere.

He really does. He edits a bit too much for my taste at times, but he's really good. I wish he'd turn it into a career, but he just does it as a hobby.

If I were you, I'd take you're friends up on the offer. Maybe you can get some pics to hang up in the garage!

I forgot to post this update over a month ago, but before I decided that I'd be getting out of the R towards the end of the year, I ordered a front strut tower bar and a rear x-brace. I figured I might as well toss them on and enjoy them, so I did just that. The front was installed like any other strut tower bar, except it's mounted underneath the cowl, so you can't see it at all (hence no install pics). The rear x-brace mounts behind the seats and links the two sides of the chassis. This is a well known flex point on this chassis, and it's one of the reasons the GTI Clubsport deletes the seat and adds a brace.

I took my time cutting the carpet to make it look as close to factory as possible.

I installed the front first, and then did the rear about a week later so I can feel the changes independently. I was very surprised at how noticeable the changes were.

Front strut tower bar: steering was instantly sharper and going over uneven roads makes the struts do their intended job - it no longer crashes over bumps.
Rear x-brace: pulling out of my driveway would typically cause creaking as the car came down at an angle. Not any more. It feels solid, and the rear feels slightly more playful.

Overall, highly recommended.

In other news, the market taking a shit appears to be hurting used car sales, and I've noticed some E63 Estates sitting on dealer lots for over a month already, and most have been dropping prices (slightly). This is great, except that I will also be selling/trading my car, so the sliding market will potentially hurt me as well. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I have toyed with the idea of keeping the R and getting a weekend car, but that doesn't really satisfy the space constraint. However, it will satisfy the sports car itch If I go the two car route again, it'll be more of a GT car, so something like an R8, 911 or possibly an Aston (although there are very few shops in my area that I'd trust with an AM). It's still very early in the thought process though.

Yes.

I like modifying cars to make them my own, but modifying to fix issues is annoying. And sometimes those mods don't turn out well (*laughs in Subaru*). It's part of the reason why I want a car that doesn't really "require" much for me to enjoy - even though I'll still find ways to fuck with it.

I also try to temper my emotion, like a proper lady

I plan to list the R as is in August/September. If it's not gone by October, I'll bring it back to stock and sell it to CarMax, or trade it for an Estate. So, end of year.
