Soooooo
I always wanted to get a new axleback or exhaust tips to replace the wimpy looking stock exhaust. I don't really care for the sound or performance gain. Everyone knows that the performance are bottlenecked by header/overpipe/front pipe anyway.
2 days ago, I found an insane deal on TRD cat back exhaust. It's like $1100 factory option, but this guy was selling it for $300 shipped from Nebraska.
I saw the sales topic the first. A lot of others posted that they wanted it if I flake. It was only $300, so I just went ahead and sent him paypal. He's supposed to send out the package by the end of today.
Let's see if it's a scam or not!
I've been really liking the look of this exhaust for awhile.
These are the pics that the seller emailed to me:

Yeah! I'll be sad if it's a scam not because I got "scammed", but because I'm so hyped up about it right now. haha

Can't see much at all, but that's the top of the Angeles Crest Highway. Went out for a night driving with my friend.
It was my first time canyon cruising after I changed out my wheels and tires. The car feels 100 times smoother and has 10 times higher grip, I swear. My friend was in the passenger seat and he was surprised how smooth the car was. He said he expected very rough ride since the car is known for its handling capability.
I obviously don't know the very limit of the tires "yet", that canyon certainly isn't the right place to test it out. So I was taking it pretty lightly. But I could easily the car was just worlds better than the stock set up. It felt much more stable and flat in all corners than the stock.
With the stock set up, the car felt more 10/10th on the road. I don't know how to describe it, but it seemed like the car always was shouting in my ears to go faster faster faster.
But with much wider wheels and stickier summer tires, the car felt much more matured. The ride is much smoother. The car never hesitates or whines. It would simply hook and shoot to the point I'm steering to at will. The car for some reason feels "bigger" in a good way, don't know if that makes any sense. But that's how I felt it.
We didn't spot any cars going uphill. But, after we turned around and started going downhill. I saw a car going very fast far behind me. When he got pretty close to my rear end. I noticed the "Beak".
No joke. I'm really not hating. It really was a 4G TL. It was a post MMC 4G TL SH-AWD. I only noticed it after I let him pass at the bottom of the canyon.
But anyway, he was going pretty fast and was riding my ass for like 20 seconds. I upped my pace a bit. He was still trying to ride my ass but could see his car sliding a bit.
Then, I just took off. My friend suddenly stopped talking. I stopped talking. My car was screaming, yet the tires still didn't make much sound. Finally started using my brakes. My heart was pumping hard. That went on for about 5 minutes. Then I eased the pace. I slowed down when we were at the bottom of the canyon. The TL showed up later. I let him pass. He gave me a thumbs up. I gave him a thumbs up.
Ah, it was a fun night.
Oh yeah, after we got done with everything. Went to a local In-N-Out.
I love LA.

I get this question a lot actually....
I realized that having a car that's handles incredible well gives me much more rewarding driving experience than a car with high boosted power.
Having lots hp and tq is certainly fun as well. That's pretty obvious. I mean that's why I bought a MS3 in the first place and decided to learn on how to tune the car.
But it was getting a little old.. It only takes couple seconds to get up to the speed limit on any of the public roads. And MS3 being the FWD platform didn't help much. More power meant less satisfying feeling in the corners on the public roads.
It could have been fun if I tracked that car, but I never really got that urge as I wanted to learn how to drive on RWD first.
It's easy and cheap to add power to a car that has 50/50 weight distribution and one of the lowest center of gravity and fantastic chassis than doing it backward.
Some cars are just designed to be a sports car. And there are other cars that are designed to be a "sporty" trim of econo cars.
If I really wanted to get more power, it'll cost me about $6-7k to make my car to put down around 280whp/250wtq. That means the car would cost about $32k in total. This car would have around 330hp/280tq with less than 2800 lbs curb weight. This is really fast.
But I think I posted this before. From my BRZ track experiences, I can't even handle 200hp properly. And I'm sure the majority of 86 buyers or potential buyers who are QQing about the power can't handle 200hp properly neither.
And yeah, this is why I like cars like 86/Miata/S2K.
It's not necessarily a fast car in a stock form, but it's a driver's car.

FRS/BRZ/GT86 can be had as a brand new car and is the closest car to S2K and Miata than anything on the market right now.
It comes with much larger interior room, and if you put the back seat down, you can put a full set of track wheels AND a tool bag plus a 2 ton floor jack. Isn't this magical?
But really, even on the public road, it's just so joy to drive everyday. Every turn puts a racer smile on me even going at the speed limit. haha

And being a light RWD car, it just feels so rewarding at the track. When the car oversteers, the feeling that you get when you calmly correct it with a little counter steering...
It's addicting.

By the way, I think that guy was a scammer. He stopped responding to the email. He said he's going to send out the exhaust on Wednesday. And then yesterday morning, he said he texted me the shipping # which he didn't. After that, he stopped responding altogether.
I've googled around and found his real name/profile pictures/instagram/dating site/2 car forums.
I've dealt with any scammers before. There's nothing much I can do huh? Just gotta forget about it, right?

Yeah, I Paypal-ed him. Everything went through already.
What was weird is that after I sent him, he wanted me to re-send it to another paypal address saying that he gave me the wrong account.
He refunded the original $300 right away, which is now back in my bank account. Then I Paypal-ed him $300 to his other Paypal account which has been now processed.

Sent him as a gift. Don't think Paypal will care.
I guess no more gifting transactions from now on!
To help heal my wound, I decided to pick up these OEM GT86 exhaust tips. These have to be ordered from Japan, and it's about $160 shipped. A local guy was selling it for $100. I'm picking it up tomorrow.
I just can't stand the pathetic stock exhaust tips anymore. This was one of my options and guess the timing is great.
Comparison:
Will look like this:
10000 times better than the stock tips.
With the diffuser on (I'll be getting this too at some point. It's $50. LOL):

Anyone of you good at googling around stuff? I actually have found some fun stuff about this scammer. His username is llcoolchris77.
http://instagram.com/llcoolchris77
This is his instagram. It was open to public on Monday, but now he put it on complete private mode. Can some of you follow him and see if he accepts? I'm making a scammer accusation thread over at FT86 forum. The moderator said try to get as much information as possible.
I think on his intagram before he made it private. His introduction said something like "I'm 22 yrs old. I own a 37 yrs old yellow VW car."
When I was talking to him through PM at 86 forum, he confirmed that his name is Christopher Brown and he owns a 37 yrs old yellow VW car. lol
This is him on this dating site.

Wow, that exhaust tip comparison is insane. NA really got screwed on that one. GT86 tips should fill them in nicely, and looks good with white.
If I were you, I'd give coolchris the weekend and maybe Monday to try and respond. You don't want to seem like you're jumping the gun, and at least give him a chance to make up some stupid excuse.
Plus, more time to do detective work!

I never fuck with "gifting" unless it's a close friend. Dammit man...I'm so mad for you. I really hope you get Majofo to help you find pictures of him fucking a baby goat while his mother videotapes to fuck his whole REAL life up VIA the internet. I hate scam artists!
Anyway...
I want to hug you for taking it in stride and for your take on small, light, rwd low power sports cars and their place in this world.

Get the car now. It's cheap! haha
I told him several times saying I will cover 3% and send it as a standard. He kept on saying he needs the fund now or he'll just give it to other members.
He didn't seem to be that creepy since he was answering to all my random questions like "I found your instagram. Do you drive a very old VW?" "Do you have more pics?"
But then, yeah I knew it wasn't the brightest idea to send it as a gift. If it was anything more than $300, I wouldn't have done it.
Never again.
Seriously yeah... I should PM Majofo for a help. haha
I'm about to head out to meet up with this local member to pick up my GT86 exhaust tips!
Be back with so much prettier back end.

By the way, I'm going to try redout my stock tails in a month. Gonna do some more research on which stuff works the best for this. It's fairly cheap and I saw couple local guys with this. It looks pretty good. Definitely going to try to get them to be very glossy like OEM.
Hopefully, it'll be like these after.
I'm planning to get the TOMS after I get a set of coilovers next year. So, why not, right?
There's no way I'm spending +$400 on the tailight upgrade before getting my suspension set up done. The car is pretty damn pretty as is for me.
