There is another thing I guess I don't like about the Genesis.. It's definitely sexy http://bit.ly/qAg3P1 but maybe it's me, but with its design, I can see in a side-view a BMW 7-series, the ass of a Lexus LS, the front of a sloppy benz... It's not original enough. Am I wrong?

I would not call the Genesis a "copy"...but I would say it is not an "original" design.

It is heavily influenced by many of the top makes MB, BMW, & Lexus come to mind when you look at it.

....and that was exactly what Hyundai was trying to do: Not to create a car that stands out from the rest, but rather blends in with the top group, and makes you look for the badge to figure out what it is.

It's a nice looking vehicle.

Not many cars are original anymore. They all take design cues from each other.

^ that is true... Lexus has been the same for a decade, BMW with the new design is quiet plain.

Benz is making sexy cars, but Audi is by far the only brand which truly introduces unique designs, and they are gorgeous.

I think with Equus, Hyundai is attempting to stand out, I'm just not feeling it; it does not scream at me.

That sucks Neil.

I'm sure next year there will be less of a shortage of the R-Specs. Family and job definitely comes first.

I had an hour to kill yesterday and I stopped by a Hyundai dealership in Owensboro. They had an Equus on display. Very nice car. Comfortable and very well equipped for the price. The problem is that I can't see myself driving one at my age. I think it will appeal to the 50+ crowd.

I went in to check out the Sonata 2.0T.

I did spot couple Equus around my work area, it does look very very nice but agree that it should be driven by someone whose in 50's or 60's.

And you replace the H on the back with the Genesis winged logo and you really get people looking.

I went from a 2007 Infiniti G35X to a 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD Advance. For 45K to spend go with the new and cop the TL you wont be disappointed. Relaiblity and maintenance (cost effective) the best among other like from Lexus and Infiniti.

Welcome to the board, but......brace yourself for the backlash on the 4G TL.

Now that I've seen a few 12's on the road I could definitely live with its styling. Still don't love it, but if everything else met my requirements the exterior would no longer stop me from buying it.

Same here. I actually like the front end and don't mind the rest of the car. If anything its proportions still bother me as it seems like a very large car, but less so than the 09-11s. No more Jay Leno-chin front and no more Megatron-rear. Still not a fan of the 09-11 btw.

A Honda 6MT and SH-AWD resulting in Evo X-like performance....

for me, the used 2010 tl (~32k) + RJ grille for about 800 make it much better. I care about the interior and how it drives anyway, I can't see the beak from the drivers seat.

RJ grille would set you back more than 8; if he still had any. Last few he sold for 780 + you need a body shop to paint and fit it!

apparently this forum goes through very large mood swings lol

but IMO the 12' is a lot better. I'd still prefer something else because I've had an acura and would want to try something different especially since so many other manufacturers have been working so hard and it seems like honda/acura haven't working as hard?

But there's no denying the tl is a great car for its price.

Only thing I see is if he's getting a loaded V6 for a few bucks more he can get a V8.

Yea I noticed that. Most of the options on the v6 were standard on the V8 yet the price was almost the same.

Sadly it didnt work out as the Hyundai dealer

I made it so easy on them too. Told them I am here to price out a car for my dad and once the deal is made, he will come in and sign the papers and drive away today since he needs a car.

However they didnt take me seriously. They didnt even want to discuss pricing with me since my dad wasnt with me. Poor mistake on their part. I would have understood if they were busy but no one was even there.

Now I understand that I could have gone to another dealer but this was local and my dad would be using them for service as well. So if sales are that terrible then i wouldnt want him to deal with their service department either.

Then I drove past Lexus dealer and had a totally different experience. They took me dead seriously and had all the numbers finalized quickly. Hell they even started up all the paperwork before my old man showed up. All he had to do was sign the papers.

Daddy is a proud owner of a new ES350. Yes, I know its not anything sporty but it has a lot of the feel that his 02 RL had, which he loved. Plus it was much cheaper than the Genesis as well.

Oh and the Hyundai dealer did have a specR...in stock.

Congrats to you and your dad! You should drive by the Hyundai dealer and ask the guy you talked to, to have a look at your dad's new car.

Congrats as well, but that is a bit of a bizarre way to go car shopping. I wouldn't entirely fault the Hyundai folk for not taking you seriously. Car buying is usually an emotional decision. Your method is a bit hard to believe.

Does your dad really not care what car you came home with or did he provide a list of 3 of 4 cars?

And +1 for driving by the Hyundai dealer in the ES.

I hear ya.

Im not outraged or anything but was a bit shocked that they didnt even want to start to even discuss pricing till he showed up. Ideally I should have just done the email attack and done all the pricing with the internet sales manager before walking in.

My dad HATES car shopping (maybe im adopted) and talking with dealers. So if he walked in and the sales didnt have pricing already done, then he would have walked right back out. Just the way he is, however that makes him an easy sale as well.

I know my father well and knew the type of cars he would be interested in. So in the end the ES350 is exactly what he wanted in the price range that he wanted to be in.

I am just glad its all over with. He was without his RL for a day and already driving me nuts on finding a replacement. Hes not very patient.

But damn.. that V8 Gen at start up sounded amazing.
