I have a Sekonic L-358, and its quite handy when needing to know whats proper exposure quickly. I can see the investment for landscapes since time goes by quick. But I would go used though. you can probably get a better price for somebody who doesn't use it regularly.

And you would need to know how to calibrate it to your camera. All sensors are different...so ISO readings are not consistent like with film.

Who has the lee big stopper ? If so how do you like it? I have a b+w screw in 10 stop nd, but it would be nice to have the lee so I can stack it with my grad. It always seems to be on back order though every time I check b&h.

imo matt, thats wayy overpriced and not worth that kind of money. You can probably get a 580exII for that much. and batteries i would get these.

But I see on there site the 580 is $350. Would it be worth it to ship it back and pay the difference for the 580??

my thing is that the 580ex has more power than 430exII plus, i have seen the 430's to sell about 200 or so on the used market. I think the one you saw is also used on B&H if im not mistaken. If you go on the sale markets of canon forums ive seen the 580exII go from 320-350 as well. most of the time the seller pays for shipping and paypal if used.

580ex can also trigger slaves. The 430 can only be a slave.

I'm kinda thinking maybe the 580 is the way to go now. I'm a little hesitant to buy a used one though, And now when I look on the B&H site is says discontinued and they show a 600ex is that the replacement model or something?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._580EX_II.html
You guys that have the 580 did you buy new or used?

Have you also considered Yongnuo speedlites? the 568exII is the same as the canon 580exII. I think....

I think this is the kit
Contains the versatile and efficient shoe mount flash along with four AA rechargeable NiMH batteries, a rapid battery charger, a softbox kit, and a cinch strap for attaching the softbox to the flash. The batteries and charger help to ensure readily available power for the flash and the softbox kit helps to produce a broad, soft light spread with a six color gel kit to alter the color of the flash output. Additionally, a 3' coiled TTL cable is included to allow for off-camera positioning of the flash while still maintaining full TTL capabilities.

Miz , Singh-Ray also makes very good quality, up in the same league as Lee IMO. I've stacked multiple SR filters with zero vignetting. Good quality stuff.
