Does anyone else think posting your camera/lenses is totally boring?
If we all had unlimited money, we'd all have L lenses and the best bodies. That's not interesting. I'm more interested in accessories. What do you always carry with you? What do you find useful? If all your stuff got stolen, what would you buy first? What would you buy before you even went out on your first shoot? If I had to start over, I would start with: 20D Optech Pro Strap Tenba DB-15C USB Card Reader Canon 10-22mm lens w/ UV filter (lens used ~ 60% of the time) 70-200mm IS lens w/ UV filter (~ 35%) External Flash The Pod and extra battery or two, probably 2 gig of memory. The rest of my stuff I don't use all that much, to be honest. (I need to get/practice using filters) The pod barely makes the list, but it's cheap, and quite useful when I need it. (and I always keep it with me) |
The only filter I find of much use is the circular polarizer - I might use some neutral density gradient filters if I shot high dynamic range landscapes. Other filters.... well, that's what Photoshop is for.
If my entire kit were stolen, I'd buy the D200 and the 17-55 DX, plus the SB800 again. Second lens to buy again would be the 70-200mm VR. Mike |
if my kit was stolen, i'd buy the 1d markII, and the 70-200f/2.8 NON-IS.
next would be the monopod/ball head combo. I'd also have 2 mem cards and 2 batts like i do now. edit, and a circular polarizer. |
I'm quite happy with the kit I've got now. My essentials would be a 30D, 430EX, 10-22, 70-200, and a good tripod. That would cover 95% of everything I shoot.

Just the Rebel XT with a 17-85IS lens & a really long wishlist.
I carry it in a Lowepro Mini-Trekker. |
If anyone is looking for a really nice lightweight shoulder bag, check out the Crumpler "5 Million Dollar Home". I just grabbed one a couple weeks ago and it's perfect for what I need on a casual outing.
There's just enough room for my 30D with the 10-22 mounted and either my 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/4 and my 430EX in the other two compartments. There's also ample room for batteries, filters, and cleaning equipment. Best of all, it doesn't look like a camera bag. I'll use my backpack for hikes, but this shoulder bag is ideal for day trips and quick outings. If you haven't seen Crumpler's website yet, it's worth a trip: http://www.crumpler.com.au/home.php Their web designer must hit every drug that's on the streets. |

Nikon 6006, Nikon D100with vert grip and L-bracket, 80-400mm VR, 18-35mm, 35-70mm, 70-210mm, 18mm, 24mm, 85mm lenses. Nikon flashes x 2.
Hasselblad XPan II with L-bracket, 30mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses. Contax N Digital, Contax N1 with vert grip and data back. 24-85mm and 85-200mm lenses. Contax 645 medium format camera x 2 with vert grip and RRS L-bracket. Contax flash grip and Contax 360 flash, polaroid back, 4 film backs and an extra insert. Zeiss lenses: 45mm, 80mm, 140mm, 210mm, 1.4x Mutar extender. Extra Prism finder and waist level finder. Lee neutral density gradient filter set, Singray Variable ND filter, various Heliopan ND filters and Circular Polarizers. Heliopan redhancer filter. Medium format Ansco folder and high end Agfa Super Isolette folding camera in 120 format. Manfrotto Carbon One tripod and monopod, Really Right Stuff Ballhead and Ultimate Ballhead. Too many Lowepro bags, backpacks and hardcases. I shoot mainly landscapes and nature. Looking at getting a Nikon D2XS to replace my D100 but nothing I've seen yet beats a medium format enlargement or medium format slide projected on a screen. I have a Nikon 9000 Coolscan scanner and the latest Photoshop CS2 but film has a different quality than digital. More 3D than digital IMO. The Hasselblad XPan is an amazing panoramic rangefinder. The lenses are just magnificent. |
