I know a guy with a Vello grip on his 7D…fits, looks and works perfectly. For that difference in $$ I'd at least try the Vello. Then again, I'm cheap.

Plus with B&H you can always return it if you don't like it.

Maybe I'll just get the Vello that's a pretty substantial price difference and the pics look like there exactly the same. I have the Vello shutterboss and it seems like good quality

Yah…I don't think you can go wrong with these 3rd party grips. I'd get one but then I'd have to get a new L bracket, yadda yadda….

Here`s my bag.

Canon 450d
Canon 18-55 kit
Canon 50 F1.8
Canon 17-85 F4/5.6
Tamron 28-200
uv filter

I will be upgrading camera and lens soon and have these in mind:
Canon 60d with the 15-85
Sony nex5n with the 16-50
Canon 7d with 17-50 F2.8 (this is my dream set up but a little to pricey at this time)

My goal is 1 camera and 1 lens to begin with and expand from there.

which 17-50 2.8 are you referring to? I heard that the tamron has a hit or miss factor which photographers are pissed that the lens render soft pictures. The sigma has been more liked from others

Leaning heavy towards the 60d. And in order to buy the sony nex5n or similar I am going to need some convincing that it is more than what I call a tourist camera and can do some photography with it. Pictures are extremely vivid with the sony I will admit.

I would say that is your best bet. With Canon you have legacy. With Sony on their NEX line, not sure where they are going. Seems that they have stepped to a new with their FF 7's. And if you are low on funds, that won't help you in the long run with them.

I cannot remember the last time I said "I should use the 10-22 for this shot"... Wondering if that means I should sell it? My next widest is the 17-55 2.8.

As much as I like my 1D2N, I think it was a poor choice to "upgrade" to back in 2009.

I mainly bought it for sports photography which was majority of what I shot when I worked for my college newspaper. But I stopped shooting that when I graduated

I'd say they're about equal $$ on the used market. Trade it out.

Although i don't regret buying my 7D, but if i were to do it all-over again, i would buy lenses instead.

Don't spend your money on the body, spend it on lenses. The 450D you have now will do 90% of what the 60D will be able to do. The next question you should ask yourself is if you can do 90% of what the 450D is capable of doing. If the answer is yes, then you should try the 450D with some really high end glass. If the answer is still yes, then get the 60D.

I used my 10-22 maybe a handful of times, the rest of the time it was a $700 paperweight on my bookshelf. I've maybe regretted selling it once or twice in the 5 years since I sold it but that's about it.

+1, that's why I never upgraded my body until I got all the lenses I wanted. You'll still get poor pictures out of a Canon 1DX with an EF 75-300mm lens on it.

Depends what you shoot, I've seen images post in here with pro bodies and kit lenses.

But all and all, it's best to get the lenses you want first, because they hold their value better than camera bodies.

Agreed, talent and location is part of it but generally speaking crap lens = crap image. If you're in a bright location or using tripod, you can get a great shot out of a kit lens but if you're in a darker location or doing motion shots, it won't do so hot.

Did someone say they miss their 40D? I've got one languishing in a bag in a closet that I'd let go if serious. I had kept it for a backup, but I've got 5 bodies lying around with only one really getting any use. Seems silly of me.

Canon 40D
Canon T3i

Canon 18-55 kit
Canon 55-250
Sigma 50-500
Rokinon 8mm 3.5
Rokinon 85mm 1.4

Various Zeikos filters, Giottos Aluminum Tripod.

Not nearly as extensive as some of you bastards.

I've had the 40d for a long time and recently picked up the T3i. Everyone that has owned a 40d regrets getting rid of it, so I decided to just supplement it. I looked at the T5i and T4i but didn't get a feeling that spending the extra money would benefit me. I think next on the list is a 50mm 1.4.

Although it is cheaper, the autofocus on the 1.8 is horrendous at night. All of the 50's suck in terms of AF but the 1.8 I tried 3x and sold it 3x. I bought my 1.4 and at first it thought I was going to return it but it started to work for me. The build quality much better and with the ultrasonic motor, I don't have to hear it focus.

I have the 50L, and to be honest, I frigging love it. It feels like a brick, and it does occasionally miss focus, but not as often as many have said. I did get a bad copy the first round, but returned it for a replacement and have been extremely happy with it. It's silky.

I'm new to this stuff...

Returned my very first and new DSLR (Nikon D5200) which i purchased in December 2013.

Picked up:
Nikon D5300
Nikkor 18-140mm
Nikkor 50mm 1.8
SanDisk Extreme SDHC 32gb 80mb/s

Looking into a lense hood, possible clear filter (although not sure if necessary ), Nikon Speedlight, and a Lowepro Photo Hatchback to haul it all.

I have the 50f1.8. The build is better on the f1.4. Mine almost feels to cheap but am not complaining of the picture quality.
