IDK if I am subin to the correct thread...But I am BRAND NEW to what is considered, "Quality Photography" and just purchase my very first intro model CANON EOS Rebel 600D T3i. After 10yrs of shooting with my SONY CyberShot, I broke down and purchased my very first SLR. Yeah, I know..."Green wet behind the ears, Rookie!"...lol! But I am stoked and can't wait to learn how to use it more then just focus and shoot. Thanks

I haven't been keeping up with the rumors and all so the T5i is like wtf to me, they just released the T4i not too long ago. :whyme:
Still waiting on the 70D which looks like it's date has been pushed into April :bored: not amused, Canon, not amused. Miz, I agree on the vacation camera, or even a small camera you keep with you at all times for when you're out and about and want to snap some quick pictures. :) Price needs to drop for it to get to that though  |

Canon 5D Mk III Will Have Uncompressed Clean HDMI Out By the End of the Month by Chris Gampat on 04/09/2013 Remember last year Canon stated that a major firmware update was coming for the Canon 5D Mk III? Well in a recent interview with News Shooter, Chuck Westfall stated that they’re on scheduled on it will be coming by the end of the month. Now when you tether your Canon 5D Mark III to an external recorder through the HDMI port you’ll be able to capture completely uncompressed HDMI video in all its high definition quality. But hopefully there might be more to this firmware update that than. Canon has already stated that their speedlites aren’t performing the best with the camera when it comes to autofocusing. Maybe an Easter egg may be in there as well? This is an extremely interesting move for Canon overall now though because it now means that all video evaluations regarding the Canon 5D Mk III vs the Nikon D800 need to be redone. It makes us wonder if Sony will do anything else with the A99 to take these cameras on at a higher level. |
Yup I posted that a while back, just didn't know when that firmware was coming...

Something the D800 has been doing for the last year. Had Nikon never done this, you wouldn't be seeing it now.
The only thing the Nikon can't do is triggering the external device, which is a nice convenience. |
got to love competition :)

Introducing the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x – improved performance and versatility for professional sports and wildlife photographers London, UK, 14 May 2013 – Canon today adds a new category to its range of high-performance super-telephoto lenses, with the introduction of the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x to Canon’s acclaimed L-series. The EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x features a flexible 200-400mm focal range with a fixed f/4 aperture, 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer and for the first time in a commercially available lens, a built-in 1.4x extender. These features combine to provide an outstandingly versatile lens for professional sports or wildlife photographers. A robust magnesium alloy design, environmental protection and specialised lens coatings also make it ideal for mobile use, combining with the finest quality optics to deliver exceptional results, even in the harshest conditions. Get closer to the action with superior image quality The reach of the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x is boosted by its internal 1.4x extender, which is engaged or disengaged at the flick of a lever to provide an extended focal length of 280mm to 560mm – allowing photographers to get even closer to distant action. Ensuring the highest image performance, the optical design includes both fluorite and Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens elements, which help minimise chromatic aberration and eliminate colour blurring. Advanced anti-reflection SubWavelength Structure Coating (SWC) and Super Spectra Coating also reduce ghosting and flare. Thanks to the use of the latest optical technologies, image performance is unaffected when the integrated extender is used. With a constant f/4 aperture the use of high shutter speeds to capture fast-paced action or a low-light scene is possible. A newly designed optical Image Stabilizer, which provides users with a four stop advantage, while IS ‘Mode 3’ applies image stabilisation only at the time of exposure – ensuring that photographers can pan with fast-paced action without IS overcompensating for movement. This feature is ideal for sports photographers, who typically have only a split-second to capture a subject in front of them. Powerful, flexible focusing The EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x features Canon’s pioneering ring-type Ultrasonic Motor providing fast, silent autofocusing. For those who prefer to fine-tune focus themselves, full-time manual override allows photographers to manually focus at any moment when using AF. The Power Focus (PF) mode also increases versatility during movie shooting with the EOS-1D C or EOS-1D X, enabling photographers to achieve an accurate pull-focus effect at one of two speeds, simply by twisting the focus recall ring and stopping at a pre-set distance. High-performance design for professional demands Designed to answer professional demands for superior image quality and versatile zoom range, the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x a boasts a premium-quality design befitting Canon’s industry-renowned L-series lenses. The tough magnesium alloy chassis ensures that, despite the inclusion of the 1.4x extender, the lens is a similar weight to lenses of comparable focal length. Fluorine coatings on the front and rear lens elements also reduce the ability of dirt to cling to the lens surface, while a dust and water-resistant construction allows photographers to shoot in challenging weather conditions. The combination of outstanding optical performance, versatility, weight and tough construction will make it an essential part of any professional sports or wildlife photographer’s kitbag. EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x key features Built-in 1.4x extender, for extra magnification when you need it Shoot in low light with four-stop Image Stabilizer High image quality using Fluorite lens elements Fast AF with USM technology Robust design for use in the toughest environments Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x specifications Principal specifications Lens type Zoom lens Max Format size 35mm FF Focal length 200–400 mm Image stabilisation Yes (4 stops claimed) Lens mount Canon EF Aperture Maximum aperture F4.0 Minimum aperture F32.0 Number of diaphragm blades 9 Optics Elements 25 Groups 20 Special elements / coatings Fluorite and Ultra-Low dispersion glass elements, Sub-Wavelength Structure Coating and Super Spectra Coating Focus Minimum focus 2.00 m (78.74″) Maximum magnification 0.15 x Autofocus Yes Motor type Ring-type ultrasonic Full time manual Yes Focus method Internal Distance scale Yes DoF scale No Focus distance limiter 3 positions: Full, 2m-6m, 6m-infinity Physical Weight 3620 g (7.98 lb) Diameter 128 mm (5.04″) Length 366 mm (14.41″) Materials Magnesium alloy barrel Sealing Yes Colour White Zoom method Rotary (internal) Power zoom No Zoom lock No Filter thread 52 mm Filter notes Rear drop-in filter holder Hood supplied Yes Hood product code ET-120 (WII) Tripod collar Yes Other Notes Switchable built-in 1.4x extender (8 elements / 4 groups) converts lens to 280-560mm f/5.6 lens with 0.21x max magnification http://1.static.img-dpreview.com/fil...s-2.jpg?v=2159 http://www.canonrumors.com/wp-conten.../200400mtf.jpg  |

Designed for aspiring enthusiast photographers, the EOS 70D is the ideal camera for anyone looking to take their photography to the next level. It combines completely new, world-first Canon imaging technology with powerful, creative and wireless sharing features – delivering a responsive, all-purpose camera ideal for capturing the moment with stunning images and Full HD video. Capture the moment with stills and Full HD movies The EOS 70D features a new 20.2 MP APS-C CMOS sensor, designed and manufactured by Canon. It’s the first Digital SLR in the world to feature ground-breaking Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, which delivers smooth and accurate autofocus (AF) when shooting Full HD movies and fast AF acquisition when shooting in Live View mode. Paired with the 14-bit DIGIC 5+ processor and 19-point all cross-type AF System, the EOS 70D captures incredible, full resolution images at up to 7 frames per second, with up to 65 JPEG or 16 RAW images in a single burst*. Additionally, a native ISO range of ISO 100-12800 enables photographers to shoot in lower light conditions and use faster shutter speeds whilst retaining high image quality. “I was incredibly impressed with how many new technologies the EOS 70D packs into one body, and how versatile it is,” said Brutus Östling, Canon Ambassador. “The EOS 70D is the perfect camera for anyone that wants to develop their photography skills. Not only is it suited to shooting people, landscapes and action easily and in outstanding quality, but also filming subjects in Full HD with focus speeds I never thought would be possible. The camera proved itself in the most challenging of circumstances, and had a range of new-generation technologies to comfortably solve any test I threw at it – especially with the new Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. It really takes DSLR shooting and filmmaking to a whole new level.” Canon’s new Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides swift AF performance when shooting in Live View mode and smooth accurate focus for Full HD movies. It makes it easy for users to take their next step with movies, enabling them to keep moving subjects in sharp focus and create professional-looking pull-focus effects. A 7.7cm (3.0”) Vari-angle Clear View LCD II Touch screen with a sharp 1,040k dot resolution is ideal for video shooting, or composing images from unusual and creative angles. The screen is a capacitive type, which supports a series of multi-touch gestures including swiping and pinch-zooming – perfect for navigating menus, amending settings or flicking through images. Clever connectivity for easy control and instant sharing The EOS 70D is the latest EOS model to feature integrated Wi-Fi, providing the freedom to remotely control the camera, as well as share images. Using Wi-Fi connectivity, users can connect to the EOS Remote app and control a wide range of image settings, including ISO and exposure, as well as focus and release the shutter. Photographers can also remotely use Live View mode, as well as review and rate their images. Instant creativity unleashed The EOS 70D features a host of creative modes to make capturing unique images easy. In-camera HDR removes the challenges of shooting in tricky, high contrast situations, merging three exposures into one that captures more detail in both the shadow and highlight areas. With multiple-exposure mode, photographers can shoot and combine up to nine exposures into a single image, or use a range of Creative Filters to instantly change the style and look of their shot. Experimenting with creative off-camera flash is easy, thanks to the Integrated Speedlite transmitter, which provides in-camera control of multiple Canon Speedlite EX flash units. Creative Full HD Movies Alongside beautiful stills, the EOS 70D allows photographers to create high quality movies with ease. Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution video can be captured with a choice of selectable frame rates, including 30, 25 or 24fps, and 60 and 50fps at 720p, and a range of compression options for post-editing and sharing. Thanks to new Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Movie Servo AF mode tracks subjects as they move, or even as shots are recomposed, ensuring they’re always in focus. Alternatively, users can select different focus areas over 80 per cent of the frame** simply by tapping the touch-screen, even when recording – ensuring that movies stay sharp and clear if a subject moves or the user changes the composition of a shot. Videographers can also enjoy stereo sound using the internal microphone, or enhance audio with the in-built external microphone input terminal. Full control over settings such as aperture and ISO is also possible within manual mode, giving users greater freedom as their skills develop. |
Both B&H and Adorama are taking preorders

Looks like the perfect camera for me, I do a lot of video. Now to convince the boss I need an upgrade.
|
Phew. Not as big an upgrade as I was expecting.
I just got the 60D a month or 2 ago. :) |
I think its more of a release for the video shooters.
|
 Me too.
Nice camera none-the-less but it's not making me regret the 60D purchase. :) |
|
Just need to see how it does in low light/high ISO conditions. Hopefully it is head and shoulders better than the current 18mp sensor. I'd like to see it approach 6D levels of noise control.

Well canon rumors says this:
EOS 70D a New Benchmark in ISO Performance? JULY 1, 2013 CANON 70D FOLLOW ON OUR FORUM We’ll know tonight We’ve received word that the new Canon EOS 70D which is right around the corner will set the benchmark for ISO performance from a crop camera. That bit of information will make a lot of people happy, as it may mean Canon is ready to make a jump back into the top end of sensor and processor development. We should be seeing sample images within the next 24 hours. We shall see :dunno: |
If it beats the D7000 then they have a good camera. If not, just another wannbe!

I don't see that happening, 6D is a full frame camera. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see
The current 18mp APS-c sensors are pretty bad. |

 Time will tell..maybe less time than I thought. I know it won't be exactly like the 6D but if it can get "close" that would be really good.

I predict a DxO scoring in the mid 70's (which I know there are doubts about their scoring system, I'm just sayin')
<---goes to look up what the 6D scored. |
....leads the company to predict noise levels that are roughly on par with the lower-res 60D for raw shooting. :whyme: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...canon-70dA.HTM |
if the AF is all its cracked up to be - I think in terms of DSLR video the 70D is the "next generation".
|
oh also, the multi-touch touchscreen LCD is another "next generation" for DSLR's, IMO. good addition, a touch-screen makes any device more versatile.

Basically the sensor pixel site is divided into 2. When used for AF both the left and right are used for phase detection. When used for image capture both sides are used. Iirc right now the cameras that have dedicated AF sensor pixels are AF only, can't be used for image capture. |

:whyme: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...canon-70dA.HTM Just get a FF camera if that's the kind of noise level you want! :blahblah: |

That's somewhat of an improvement if you ask me. Higher res and same noise levels as before?
Just get a FF camera if that's the kind of noise level you want! :blahblah: Higher res - better to see the already horrible noise with my Dear. Heaven forbid that we have a clean, or at lease cleanER, APS-c sensor. Will wait to see what the 7DII brings..... |

I think the price they are going to be charging for the 7DII, a little more and you can get the 6D. The 6D's overall score (by DxO) was 82, which is okay by today's cameras (great if we're comparing to scores from a few years ago), but it did great in the high ISO test.
Come on 7DII! :scrib: |

Not sure if this belongs here or the real deal ULTRA COMPACT thread so someone feel free to move it if it does. There is an awesome deal right now on the Canon S110. Buy the S110 and a combo pack of a PIXMA Pro-100 printer and 50 sheets of 13x19 glossy photo paper for $658 and get a $400 mail in rebate. The cheapest I have found the S110 for online that I would trust is $349.99. So the price for the camera alone is great.
http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/9955...age=3#comments I picked one up to replace my S90 with and am going to sell the printer since I bought one earlier this year on a different Canon rebate deal. |

Canon Announces New Point and Shoots With This Thing Called Connectivity by Chris Gampat on <abbr title="2013-08-22" class="published">08/22/2013</abbr> Today, Canon is announcing their brand new initiative called, “The Power to Connect.” While we basically got hints of it when the Powershot N was released around CES, they’re adding wifi connectivity to all their point and shoots. Yesterday, we saw a bunch of them: including the company’s new G16, S120, SX170 IS, and the SX510 HS. At their core, they all share wifi connectivity and a couple of minor spec bumps that one can typically expect from Canon with each new iteration of their cameras. With that said, these cameras have a new background defocus mode, star modes that include one for timelapse shooters, and all utilize Canon Image Gateway to transfer images and movies to a computer or iOS/Android device. Tech Specs are after the jump.
