Since Yummy doesn't do cameras, I thought I emulate him in this thread.

wndrlst 10-18-2011 02:32 PM

 You have to start saying that anyone who uses Canon thinks they're better than anyone else. :O

(luv you yummy...)

srika 10-18-2011 02:38 PM

naming is odd tho.. maybe thats the part that was 'revolutionary'... :ponder:

I wonder what Nikon is thinking. They might be laughing.

jupitersolo 10-18-2011 02:42 PM

Considering they did this three years ago, with an update about a year ago, sure they're :pofl:.

srika 10-18-2011 02:43 PM

oh you've seen sample photos already? link?

dom 10-18-2011 02:51 PM

Not suggesting he should be impressed with the 1D X but I don't think there's anything Canon can do at this point to impress Jup. I'll agree the specs are somewhat underwhelming which is why it will be interested to hear what the Pro's think once its in their hands. Until then, opinions are like assholes.

hey, I know what it's like to be on the 'other side' and have been a 'participant' on numerous occasions...

I don't know what people were expecting in terms of specs, I thought they were in line with the modern progression of cameras. And I think the AF system is gonna be incredible, having its own Digic IV processor and all.

also, 12fps on a FF at 18mp is quite fast.

jupitersolo 10-18-2011 03:05 PM

You guys are taking me serious? I flat out said what my comments were. And as said, it's about time Canon did what the customers wanted IQ, not MP's.

srika 10-18-2011 03:21 PM

sorry for taking you seriously, I guess.

jupitersolo 10-18-2011 03:35 PM

Well you do know that I've never been that person in this forum.

Mizouse 10-18-2011 03:40 PM

just noticed it has 2 joysticks - you can do AF point selection in vertical mode (NICE) - wondered why the older cams didn't have this.

I'm pretty happy with the specs, it's moved forward by a good amount in pretty much everything.

Don't forget about the "James Bond" carring case.

The dual CF card slots is pretty cool, glad to see that CF is still alive. What I don't understand is, if memory is getting cheap to make (well, at least with SD cards), why are CF cards still kinda pricy?

srika 10-18-2011 10:16 PM

I would think its because they are not the norm.

Because the continue to get faster and faster. Want good cards?, don't over pay for Sandisk, look at Transcends.

Thanks for that, i'm going to order at least one CF when I get back to SoCal in Dec.

I have a question. Is there some mechanical reason why they can't make the focus points area bigger? i.e. to cover more of the frame?

jupitersolo 10-19-2011 05:09 PM

Oh boy, here's come the FP bitching on FF!

IIRC, it has to do with the size of the sensor, but that was something I read about a few years ago.

Speaking of bitching, seen a little on FM, that it's only 18mp. Didn't stay around to read it.

srika 10-19-2011 05:09 PM

Fp?

Wonder why they are keeping the images small?

If it's that good, don't they have nothing to worry about it?

srika 10-19-2011 05:24 PM

I guess its not that good.

Mizouse 10-19-2011 06:20 PM

Who knows.

srika 10-19-2011 06:22 PM

I think in the past they have had large size files available for download eh? maybe they didn't want their servers crashing.

srika 10-19-2011 11:06 PM

there sure are a LOT of raving and swooning first impressions about the 1D-X all over the net.....

jupitersolo 10-20-2011 08:18 AM

It's the first "real" thing for Canon uses to get happy about in awhile.

yeah but contrary to what seeing in here, I'm not seeing much at all of "it's just a D3" or "its underwhelming". that's my point

All shutters are design to a certain life spam, they could last forever or fail within first few months or year you use it. But the did use some quality materials with this one.

Mizouse 11-03-2011 09:27 PM

Hmmm C300 camera...

Also an in development EOS Movies DSLR that can record at 4K and is full frame...

Sarlacc 11-03-2011 10:06 PM

Smoke and mirrors. I read the specs and it's shite.

Jus something to make the canon fans jump up and bark.

dom 11-04-2011 08:39 AM

Thanks for the detailed analysis. ;)

But care to tell us why? I'm not doubting since I know shite about video but it would be nice if you could at least give us some reasoning. The sensor sounds great so what's shite?
Price?, not a true 4K?

Sarlacc 11-04-2011 10:48 AM

a 4k sensor that shoots 1080 by 1920....thats not anywhere near 4k, thats 2k...
The form factor sucks. They are copying RED...and its shitty form factor, horrid ergonomics.

I'll have to read more...I jus the official press release this morning...so some of the specs I read might be wrong...but bit rates etc were listed as really low.

And 20 fucking grand....phhht. fuck no.

srika 11-04-2011 11:16 AM

wait, they want 20k for that Canon? rofl... Red's are available for much cheaper and are true 4k (and even 5k)! I mean like half that! what is Canon doing?????

dom 11-04-2011 11:19 AM

Its marketed as 4K but they process it differently or something. :dunno:

They also announced the development of a Cinema dedicated SLR with a Full Frame sensor that will shoot true 4K cropped to APS-H. That sounds interesting but it looks like a 1D X body so I'm guessing the price will be 10K+.

And what's with those 2 zoom lenses costing 45 and 47K? :what: Holy shite.

What's Canon doing? The name on the product is all that some need...

it reminds me of another company. :bitelip:

dom 11-04-2011 11:43 AM

The badge probably cost 15K.

srika 11-04-2011 11:45 AM

wait, since when is Canon a company known to inflate their prices just for the badge???

last time I checked, their camera models and lenses are rather affordable, comparatively speaking.

dom 11-04-2011 11:50 AM

You heard wrong, they make shite that can't compete and are surviving on name alone. Just ask Jupes.

jupitersolo 11-04-2011 11:52 AM

Well they are doing it years before, so they can sit back and watch one try to catch up...

dom 11-04-2011 11:54 AM

How can I argue with something I can't even understand?

You win.
