I am trying to decide between a 5D Mark 3 vs a 6D Mark 2 (used Adorama). I don't forsee using it for video. I am leaning 5d but I don't know any thoughts the 6D2 is more updated and refined because it’s like 5 years newer. But it is limited in some ways compared to the 5D3. dual card slots. CF & SD. 1/8000 shutter. 61af points. The 45 points on the 6D2 are clustered in the middle. 100% viewfinder coverage. 1/200 flash sync speed |
Thanks,
It would mostly be used for Landscape, Architecture and the few times I go to watch the Tour de France. I don't forsee needing 1/8000 sec shutter and I have lived with all the focal points in the center. Point what I want in focus, hold button move camera to center the way I want it. |
I do like the vari-angle display on my 6D2.
also it’s about half a pound lighter than the 5D. built in intervalometer and bulb timer is nice too. i also use live view like 90% of the time with my 6D2. the OVF is nice and all but the WYSIWYG and dual pixel AF in live view is handy. |
Ohh yea the touchscreen is soooo handy. It can be used anywhere.
Picture/video taking. menu navigation. Reviewing images (pinch to zoom, swipe to go next/prev) etc. |
Thank you Miz.
I think that is the way I am going to go. |
Moar pics here.
Edit: Just noticed the pics i had here were of the EOS R. Check the link below for the actual pics towards the bottom of the article. pics in the link below look more official like some kind of product shot. :dunno: https://photorumors.com/2020/03/02/n...orless-camera/ |

EOS R3 development announced.
http://www.usa.canon.com/eosr3 MELVILLE, NY, April 14, 2021– Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc., is developing a new, high-performance professional camera — the Canon EOS R3*. When it arrives, the EOS R3 will be an outstanding complement to the three new RF lenses the company also introduced today — The Canon RF 100mm F2.8 L Macro IS USM, RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF600mm F4 L IS USM. “The development of the Canon EOS R3 and the launch of the new RF lenses are the latest testament to the company’s commitment to professional still and video image and content creators,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, executive vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “When the camera becomes available, it will pair well with each of the new RF lenses announced today. Canon is excited to share this news today, and we look forward to seeing the images captured with the new RF lenses and upcoming EOS R3.” Under Development – The Canon EOS R3 The Canon EOS R3 will join the current lineup of EOS R full-frame mirrorless series cameras. This camera will usher in a new category to the EOS R system, positioned squarely between the EOS R5 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras. The camera will put great emphasis on superb AF performance and speed, with fast-moving subjects. It is being designed to meet the reliability and durability demands of professionals, even when working in challenging conditions. At the heart of the EOS R3 camera’s performance will be an EOS camera first, a Canon-developed, full-frame stacked CMOS sensor with a back-illuminated design, providing substantially faster read-out speeds during still-imaging recording. This completely new sensor is designed to produce less “rolling shutter” distortion during Electronic Shutter operation and offer continuous Electronic Shutter still-image shooting at speeds up to 30 fps — with full Dual Pixel CMOS AF and auto exposure1. The AF system will leverage technology and performance from the well-received EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras, using Deep Learning technology to further enhance eye and body detection for even better performance during portrait and action-type shooting. In addition, the EOS R3’s subject detection AF will offer new recognizable subjects for its AF system, bolstering its focusing capabilities during challenging shooting conditions. The Electronic Viewfinder of the EOS R3 will offer photographers the ability to select the initial area for AF tracking by simply looking directly at the viewfinder location where they want to begin AF. With Eye Control AF2 and Servo AF activated, the camera will focus on and track moving subjects at that location in the frame. When Face Detect + Tracking is active, the camera will continue to follow moving subjects around the entire active AF area. The camera body will be entirely new and accentuates the camera’s high-performance design. It’s a one-piece design, integrating the body with a vertical grip section. The weather and dust-resistance will be equivalent to that of EOS-1D class cameras — an essential consideration for nature, wildlife, sports and photojournalism content creators working in extreme conditions. In addition, news photojournalists will be excited to add the Mobile File Transmitter application for iOS and Android devices that will be available. Full details of all the EOS R3’s features and specifications will be provided at the time of its formal announcement*. Messing around with this Canon R7 (released in 2022) adapted with a 400mm F5.6 from 1993 (a 30 year old lens!), getting a 640mm equivalent field of view... At 15fps, bird-in-flight was dead on every shot... granted, it's high-noon sun, so lots of light... I'd be curious how it would focus in lower lighting situations (like at sunrise/sunset). But most importantly, it's sooooooo lite to hold. I really think Sony should bring out a 500mm F5.6 in e-mount, using their technology that somehow keeping lenses smaller and lighter.

COMING SOON! The EOS R1TOKYO, May 15, 2024—Canon Inc. announced today that it is currently developing the EOS R1, a full-frame mirrorless camera, as the first flagship model for the EOS R SYSTEM equipped with an RF mount and is aiming for a 2024 release. The EOS R1 is a mirrorless camera geared toward professionals that brings together Canon’s cutting-edge technology and combines top-class performance with the strong durability and high reliability sought in a flagship model. This camera will dramatically improve* the performance of both still images and video and meet the high requirements of professionals on the frontlines of a wide range of fields including sports, news reporting, and video production. This camera employs the newly developed image processor DIGIC Accelerator in addition to the pre-existing processor DIGIC X. The new image processing system, composed of these processors and a new CMOS sensor, enables large volume of data to be processed at high speeds and delivers never-before-seen advancements in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions. By combining the new image processing system and deep learning technology to an advanced degree, Canon has achieved high-speed and high-accuracy subject recognition. For example, subject tracking accuracy has been improved so that in team sporting events where multiple subjects intersect, the target subject can continually be tracked even if another player passes directly in front of them. In addition, the AF “Action Priority” function recognizes subject movement by rapidly analyzing the subject’s status. In moments during a sports game when it is difficult to predict what will happen next, this function automatically determines the player performing a certain action, such as shooting a ball, as the main subject and instantly shifts the AF frame, thereby helping to capture decisive moments of gameplay. The combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technology will help to improve image quality. Canon implements the image noise reduction function, which has been previously developed and improved as part of the software for PCs, as a camera function to further improve image quality and contribute to user creativity. Canon is working on field tests for this camera, and will support capturing definitive and impactful moments at international sporting events to be held in the future. Going forward, Canon will continue to expand the EOS R SYSTEM lineup of fascinating cameras and RF lenses, thereby continuing to meet the demands of a wide range of users and contribute to the development of photography and video culture. * In comparison to EOS R3 (released in November 2021) |
