but you're that much farther away from the sensor... that doesn't impact anything? Pardon my ignorance.

the Sony/EF adapter is $400 :ugh:

with mirrorless camera they don't have a mirror box, so the distance between the sensor and mirrorless lens can be much smaller. what the adapter does is increase that distance back to what it would be if there was a mirrorbox. The term is flange focal distance. with canon EF & EF-S; the distance is 44mm with canon EF-M (mirrorless lens) the distance is 18mm so the adapter makes up that difference of 26mm |
so if that's the case then, you can't go put an EF-M on a DSLR

thats what she said :mizouse: |
Well you might be able to but it would be akin to putting an APS-C lens on a FF body.

if you noticed I posted that both EF and EF-S lenses have a distance of 44mm, where the EF-M lens is 18mm. the EF-M lens would have to mount inside the body of a FF or APSC DSLR. Won't work since the mirror is in the way. |

Someone got the EF-S 10-22 lens to work on a full frame camera, but they had to chop off the (hollow) end of the lens to do so. And of course, you'd also have crazy vignetting. |
There's no need for EF-S to EF adaptors. AFAIK when canon makes their lenses, they add an extra extension to the rear element mount that sticks into the camera body. This can hit the mirror. You could remove it or cut it off. Most other manufacturers don't do this. Hence why you can mount non-canon APSC lenses on full frame bodies. You just have bad vignetting at the wider angles. example is the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 on a 5D Mark IV. (People do this because of the 1.7x crop in 4K) |
^ This is why I was talking about having an adapter that spaces it out further...
I don't know why anyone would ever do it though which is why I was asking if such a product existed. |
Moar rumors pricing for the M50. Based off the specs that's a good price. The EOS M6 was MSRP $779 body only when it was launched last year.

New flash too Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI Specifications: (via Digicame-Info)

There's also budget rebels coming out Rebel T7 and Rebel T100 |
M50 announced.... Unfortunately, 4K also imposes a significant 1.6x crop and Dual Pixel isn't available. MPEG-4, H.264Modes
The new Eye Detection AF mode also sounds promising. Sadly, it only works in AF-S and won't track an eye, so it's only useful if your subject stays reasonably still. https://m.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-m50/3 |
Sounds like they purposely limited the features since this is a "low end" camera :dunno: pretty decent cam for vloggers thou. |
That new 470EX-AI is kind of neat. |
Thats pretty cool!
|
More M50  Canon has also included a silent shooting mode that uses a fully electronic shutter – the first time this has appeared on a EOS camera. Frustratingly, though, it’s only available from a fully automated mode that’s accessed from the SCN position on the exposure-mode dial. The electronic shutter can’t apparently be selected in any other shooting mode, which feels like a missed opportunity. i think for an additional $20, I'd rather get the Sony a6300. sure there's no dual pixel AF when filming in 4K, but neither does the Canon! :tomato: |
This mirrorless seems like a pretty piss poor effort... Even if they literally copied all the specs of the Sony's, they might have a good chance...but they didn't.
For $20, there's no reason to not get the Sony. |
Canon, so afraid! |
The specs on paper sounded good. But of course canon being canon they were obviously gonna cripple it somehow :bored: that said. I understand this is a "low end" camera but still. Much butter options out there for the same or less price. Anyways hopefully the higher tier models will be less limited. |
This is nice. Sigma updated their lenses so aberrations can be corrected in-camera. The SIGMA Corporation is pleased to announce the release of its lens firmware version 2.00 for its SIGMA GLOBAL VISION (SGV) interchangeable lenses compatible with Canon digital cameras featuring Lens Aberration Correction. The three types of corrective functions available are for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, and distortion. By updating their lens firmware to version 2.00, customers with compatible SGV interchangeable lenses for Canon cameras can perform aberration corrections that match the optical characteristics of their lenses. In addition, by turning Lens Aberration Correction on and before taking photographs, users can prevent certain image and operation errors from occurring. 【Compatible lenses】 ・Release planned for March 7th, 2018 Contemporary line SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Art line SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG HSM SIGMA 135mm F1.8 DG HSM ・Releases planned going forward Contemporary line SIGMA 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM SIGMA 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Art line SIGMA 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC HSM SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM SIGMA 24-35mm F2 DG HSM SIGMA 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Sports line SIGMA 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM SIGMA 500mm F4 DG OS HSM ・The following lenses will be compatible with Canon Lens Aberration Correction upon release. Announced. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...b401a5285.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...60cb1caec.jpeg Next Generation of EF 70-200mm Lenses Features a Variety of Updates Including Enhanced Optical Image Stabilization in the f/4 and the Inclusion of Air Sphere Coating in the f/2.8 MELVILLE, N.Y., June 7, 2018 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today introduced two new telephoto zoom lenses, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM. The new lenses serve advanced amateur and professional photographers in a variety of applications and solutions including wildlife, landscapes, portrait and sports photography. Canon EF 70-200mm focal-length lenses are a popular option for photographers in need of a long zoom range that maintains a relatively compact design. In addition, these updated lenses inherit the same overall build-quality and ruggedness photographers have come to expect from the Canon EF L-series line of lenses. “At the core of image capturing, Canon believes the lens is just as important as the camera. A seamless relationship between the two allows photographers to produce emotion-evoking and timeless images,” said Kazuto Ogawa, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Canon is excited to offer photographers two distinct options in the 70-200mm focal-length, continuing to further expand our optics heritage.” Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM The new Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM features numerous updates over its predecessor, making it an ideal lens for advanced amateur photographers using Canon DSLR cameras such as the EOS 6D Mark II or EOS 80D. Most notably, Optical Image Stabilization is upgraded from three stops to five shutter speed stops of correction over the original f/4 lens. The improved IS allows photographers to more easily capture crisp, in-focus images without the use of a tripod. The new lens also features three IS modes, each uniquely designed and suitable for a variety of shooting situations, such as the capture of still subjects, panning or fast moving objects2. Furthermore, the IS operational noise has been reduced, which proves ideal for photographers shooting in a concert hall or on-stage shooting at the theatre. Additional noteworthy features of the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM include:

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM The new Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM is an ideal lens for professional photographers who shoot with the Canon 1D and 5D series of DSLR cameras. The inclusion of Air Sphere Coating (ASC) technology helps to reduce flaring and ghosting, and suppresses the reflection of light. Rumored cameras coming up. EC801 – Canon Powershot SX740
|
If that EOS M5II is any similar to the M50 and they fixed all the "shortcomings" of the M50, Canon may have a winner.
but I'm not keeping my hopes up :bored: |
The M5 was such trash.. I went to the Canon Factory to drop off my lens to clean/fix, saw the M50, loved it.. Now i need to sell my 7D so I can buy the M50.. They're running a promotion until the end of the month with some great instant savings on the M50 and the EOS M adapter...
Anyone looking to buy a 7D?! :ninja: (Mark I, ~5000 shutter count.. it's brand new ) |
What shortcomings of the M50 you speak of Miz? I'm comparing the M5 versus the M50 and despite the plastic body, it seems to blow the m5 out of the water
|
It's mainly video related. No dualpixel AF when shooting in 4K. Really bad crop when shooting in 4K. (It's like a 2.56x Crop) only 4k 24fps 120fps is in 720P Bad battery life eye-detect auto focus doesn't work in continuous autofocus mode Only one control wheel. silent shutter only works in the scene modes. if you're primarily a stills photographer. The M50 should be fine aside from the limited EF-M lenses. unless you're ok with adapting EF-S and EF lenses. :dunno: |
The shortcomings is in comparison to the competition. Sony panasonic Fuji etc. Canon did discount the M50 $100 so that makes it a bit better in terms of value vs what you get and the competition. :dunno:  |
Supposedly Canon has 2 mirrorless bodies in the works for 2019........ :ohsnap:
https://www.canonrumors.com/canons-f...rless-cameras/ Updated on Jul 5, 2018 at 9:00 AMCanon will release two full frame mirrorless cameras before the middle of 2019, the first one to come will be the “flagship” model for this new line of cameras. As reported earlier, this camera will sport a 30.4mp sensor that could be closely related to the EOS 5D Mark IV.The second full frame mirrorless body will be a lower megapixel count. We’ve seen mentions of various pixel counts, which isn’t unusual, as test cameras can come with a wide array of different image sensors. The most likely pixel count will be around 24mp, we do not believe they’ll be using the EOS 6D Mark II’s 26.2mp sensor, or even a modified version of it.
Both cameras will shoot 4K, with the “flagship” model providing the best video features. We’re also told that there’s a possibility of a removable EVF on one of the cameras, which we think would be reserved for the lower end full frame mirrorless camera. We’re told that there are currently no plans to release a camera that will compete directly with Sony’s high ISO capable Alpha a7s II. What about the mount? We cannot get a straight answer about this. We’ve been told everything from a new mount to EF mount. One trusted source told us that the full frame mirrorless camera and EF mount problem has a “sexy” solution. We’re not sure what that means, but it’s the best news we’ve received on the topic. When are they coming? Both camera bodies will be shipping by mid 2019, but the exact announcement date for the first camera is unknown at this time. What will they be called? For the moment we only have codenames, but “EOS M1” has yet to be used by Canon. Other than that, no naming suggestions have been sent our way. |
Yup. Latest rumors says that one MIGHT have be EF mount and the other a new mirrorless mount. |
still got my eyes mainly set on that Nikon tho....
|
lol I'll wait to see what Canon comes out with so I don't have to sell my glass or get an adapter. |
Me too. :precious: |
I bet those two bodies were meant to be released this year, but when the a7III was announced, they saw how all those features Sony threw in, at the price point of $1999.99, they probably decided to go back to the drawing boards, at least that's my theory.
|
Doesnt the M already have a new mount and lenses? Get your shit together Canon. |
Ok folks. Thinking about getting into photography. Been wanting to get a nice camera for a while. Primarily the Canon Rebel T6. Don't want to spend a bunch of money out the gate. Found some packages for $399-500 on Amazon. A mix of different items. Been watching videos on how to do aperture, ISO, and other settings. Difference lenses as well.
I'm looking to do portraits, cars, and nature. Would yall recommend the Canon Rebel T6 as a good starting DSLR? |

I would recommend the Sony A6000. Same price, smaller package, same features, likely better image quality.
Those are nice. Only thing is, the camera itself is looking to be around $600. The Amazon kits range around $650-700. They do look nice but I'm not of a fan of the look of them. I like the bulky look. I know its odd. Lol. Didn't want to start out spending $600 on the camera alone. |

If $50 makes or breaks the camera for you then go for the Rebel... You're in for a shock when you get more into this hobby though. |

It's what I feel comfortable with. I can care less who's looking at me. Lol. I've been looking at pricing on different items. It gets costly. Especially with the lenses. But I don't plan on taking it to that extreme. Not unless I turn it into a profession. Until then, I'm not spending $600+ on a camera. For now.... |
The guy who takes pics for our dealership let me take his Canon Rebel for the weekend. Said he doesn't like Canon. He's a Sony fan. Funny thing is. He has two Sony A6000s. Lol. Took some pics and did a little editing in the Lightroom.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...18eb6f4ad8.jpg

Interesting. Nokishita Camera has updated their list of registered cameras for certification. The most interesting one is this. Which indicates a mirrorless camera, but is using the LP-E6/E6N battery from the 80D, 6D, 7D & 5D series cameras :ponder: PC 2357

Might see a camera from canon sooner than expected. Current rumors call for 2 cameras. If this is true, this is likely NOT the "high end" model. Rumored specifications

Sounds close to the specs of the A7 III :ponder: edit: no mention of 1080P 120fps  |

i would hope its EF compatible, can't imagine Canon launching an entirely new mount with no lenses :chuckle: |
If it's EF compatible and has actually decent image performance, this thing will kill it in the market.
