Well a lot of those rumored firmware upgrades were fake. Too good to be true deal.
MELVILLE, N.Y., April 20, 2017 – In a move to help meet the demands of professional filmmakers, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the availability of a feature upgrade for the EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR camera that will add the ability to record with Canon Log. With this upgrade, the EOS 5D Mark IV can achieve a cinematic look similar to what can be achieved using Cinema EOS cameras, allowing it to serve as a second camera on a Cinema EOS shoot or to stand alone as a cinema camera. Current EOS 5D Mark IV camera owners can have the Canon Log feature upgrade installed for $99 at any of the Canon service centers across the U.S. starting in July. The camera will also be available for sale (body only) with the feature upgrade pre-installed starting in July, with an estimated retail price of $3,599.00*. Canon Log uses the image sensor’s characteristics in a way that allows for a wide dynamic range, minimal loss of detail in shadows and highlight areas and an increased range of choices when color grading. Color grading options available with Canon Log include optimized color saturation, accurate colors with minor color bias, visual continuity and accurate skin tones. Canon Log also works with and complements several EOS 5D Mark IV camera features including 4K shooting, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, high speed 119.9p shooting in HD and 59.94p shooting in Full HD. Additional features include Movie Servo AF allowing the camera to focus on a subject even when the shutter button is not used, the ability to register custom shooting modes in Canon Log and movie shooting in Canon Log on a compatible iOS® or Android™ device using the free Canon Camera Connect app1. To learn more about the feature upgrade and how to get it installed, please visit usa.canon.com/canonlog5d4. The EOS 5D Mark IV camera with Canon Log will be shown at the NAB show in Las Vegas, NV, April 24-27, in the Canon U.S.A., Inc. Booth #C4325 in the Central Hall of the LVCC. Follow Canon throughout the show on Instagram at @CanonUSA and Twitter at @CanonUSApro. |

That being said, I'm not in any hurry to do it, seeing how I don't shoot video too often. |

mmmmmmmmmm........ that's hot. :boink:
|
No 4k and it's just one card slot....
|
no need for either on this camera.
|
Everyone is bitching about no 4K or dual slots on this ENTRY level FF camera.
Then again the Nikon D610 has dual slots  |
well, its price better reflect those omissions.
|
That said, I hope this really drives down the cost of the 1st gen 6D.
ive seen some good low shutter count 6D being sold for $700, I'm hoping it dips down to 500-600 :) im a cheap bastard. |

guess theyll do do like the did with their cropped bodies, a 70D, 80D and then some reason a 77D..... |
6DII looks exactly like I expected it to look...and launch last year sometime. This one seems like it's a little late to the entry level FF party...
|
Late to the party?
IIRC the last entry level FF camera was the Sony A7II which was announced in November 2014. :dunno: |

Bummer about 98% viewfinder.
was hoping for 100% since the 80D is 100% |
wait, so it has 4K output for time lapse movie but not for regular??? Ok, that's very dumb. lol
|
My GoPro hero 4 silver is the same.
can't record video in 4K but it can generate 4K time lapse movies timelapses are created with still images so it kind of makes sense :dunno: |
oh ok. buuuut if it has DIGIC 7 (5D4 has 6+) then wouldn't it indicate it has the horsepower to do full 4K video.... :ponder:
|
They're obviously not adding 4K so as to not hurt sales of their 5D4/C series cameras etc
|
For my use, I don't need nor care for 4K.
But yea that said, it's 2017. Even my iPhone can shoot in 4K  |

Love my current 6d, honestly would have bought the II if the only thing was changed was the tilty-screen. |
:shakehead:
From DPReview: ….it seems the benefits that appeared in the sensors used in the EOS 80D and EOS 5D IV have not been applied to the latest EOS 6D II, and the new camera has less dynamic range than we’ve become used to. Graphs plotted by regular DPR collaborator Bill Claff illustrate this pretty clearly. In this article, we’re taking a look at what this might mean for your images. Only thing going for the M100 is the touchscreen and that adapted canon EF glass will focus quick on it.

Some more specs

Rumors say this camera sits below the M5 but above he M6. That would mean the price is between $979.99 and $779.99. So... $879.99? :squint: |
do those adapters work if I wanted to put my Canon lenses on the Canon mirrorless?
|
Yup and they work quite well. I hear the 3rd party adapters work as well as the canon EF-EFM adapter which costs like $200 |
