There seems to be plenty of people using 20d/30d grips with it though.

IIRC, when using live view, it generates more heat than if you weren't using live view, and i think something about microdrives being more sensitive to heat... im not sure so dont take my word on this.

so friend of mine, who is a professional photographer offered me to sell his 30D for around $600... it's in a good condition, no body damage or sensor.. not sure how many shots were taken...
used 30D for $600
vs
brand new 40d for $1300
tell me now

However, if the camera is under direct sunlight or near hot studio lights during Live View shooting, the camera's internal temperature will increase more than usual and the screen may show a warning icon shaped like a thermometer. If the warning icon appears, you can continue shooting and the operation will not be forced to terminate if you are using a memory card. However, since the image quality might degrade, it is recommended that you stop shooting if the warning icon appears. If you use a MicroDrive and you keep shooting even when the warning icon appears, the Live View shooting will terminate automatically after the internal temperature reaches a certain level. This is to protect the MicroDrive from the heat. If the Live View shooting terminates automatically, Live View shooting will not be possible until the internal temperature goes down."
Try putting a full battery in, leaving Live View on, and let the battery run out. You'll see - The camera gets very warm.

If you want the latest and greatest get the 40D. But the 30D for $600 is GREAT!!! It is a VERY good camera.

That covers the differences between the 30D to 40D.
Only you can decide if that's worth $700.

hey question, how big are the images on average with the 40D? are they the same size as what i get with my XTi?
if so, i really need to get a 2 or 4gb CF card.

However jpeg files are same height/width/bits so jpegs stay basically the same.
If you are a burst mode shooter, you can fill a card a lot faster since burst mode is faster, so keep that in mind.

ah ok, in other words just dont go live view'n like crazy while using a microdrive.
the only CF card i have is a 4GB MD, so at the moment it's all i've to use and i was afraid to use live view at all due to the vague warning in the manual.
im going to pick up a spare CF card non-MD for daily use later on.
