I try walking around Downtown Vancouver with my camera, and never seem to capture anything worthy (for newspapers)

It was on my way to work and I actually had some where to pull over the car and walk over the scene. Actually I was exiting and I figured I should snap a few shots with the 70-200.

I couldn't help but laugh a bit. All the entrances of the parkways say NO TRUCKS or commercial vehicles. I was wondering when he realized all these tiny cars and turns..

My son dropped the Canon A710IS into the Chesapeake Bay today, class trip. He didn't want to tell me it happened. He wasn't using the wrist scrap.

I have decided to buy a new body in the new year. It will probably be a 7d. I have been comparing pricing and am amazed to realize that us Canadians can get canon gear cheaper here than in the US. A 7d is 1400 plus tax, a 5d is 1999 plus tax. Since I believe that visitors from the US can apply for a refund of the taxes it would be a steal to pick up a 5d.

I am looking forward to finally updating from the 30d. If by some miracle canon releases new detail on new platforms who knows what I might end up with.

So a Russian mag wants to use some of my pics for a feature. The owner is stoked about it, but I'm not sure about just giving them my photos per week... They think I will be happy with just photo credits. However, they seriously can't afford to pay after telling me this:

"It's No.1 printed mag in Russian about tuning culture with circulation over 274000 copies per month."

Dang. You definitely deserve an upgrade! But just keep in mind, there are some new goodies from Canon probably in the works early 2012. I would just make sure the upcoming features won't piss you off, knowing if you wait a few months you could have had it.

yeah, if you've held out for this long with a 30D, I personally think you should wait just a little longer... like until next year.

Know how you feel. My son dropped our SD600 with the lens barrel open. E18 error won't go away.

Get what you want now, enjoy a camera that you can use now. Not fret over one that might be out in six months.

I wont have the cash for the new camera until the new year anyway so I have some time to wait anyway. But I kinda agree with you - I picked up the 30D around the release date of the 50D and have no regrets.

What I am hoping for is a new release will cause even more price drops and then I can add some new glass into the mix with the extra $$

I don't know what's funnier, your sarcasm, or that you would compare photography to painting.

question: with photography terms, especially around the subject of strobes/flash photography, what do they mean by "grid"?

Probably a grid spot. They are usually an array of 1/4 inch hexagonal tubes that are about an inch long. The strobe shoots through the tubes and the result is a very focused beam of light that can be specifically directed on a subject.

An example is here http://www.qhphotography.com/Blog/Us...rict-the-light

I made one out of black straws glued inside of a spray can lid. I dont have any sample images though.

oh... I see. Yeah, that makes sense now (I'm watching tutorial on flash photography, and didn't understand that part).

thanks

The size of the tubes can very.

Some homecomb grids I've seen also specify a degree number with it indicating how focused the beam of light is.

ie 90degrees is more spread out than 10degrees.
