to be honest, you can totally get by with a sync cable... the little shoot I did with my gf yesterday, the sync cable with the Alienbees worked just fine.

Neat... it would be a cool hack to take the guts of some old P&S and hack it into the insides of an old rangefinder.

Ok...all you dslr vets....

I have a guy willing to sell a canon EF-s15-85mm lens for $475, which is a really good price for that lens. However he says that there are "Very few nearly invisible dust particles inside". But that "it doesn't affect image quality".

What do you all think of this? Worth it? Do you think these dust particles will effect the lens/images?

Pretty good price. If the dust he describes it to be what he said, then image quality won't suffer. I have some nearly invisible dust in mine (also 15-85) built up from my Hawaii trip and my pictures are fine.

Thanks for the insight. I've read nothing but great reviews on this particular lens, which is why i really want one. Just don't know what to think about the the dust thing. Can lenses be cleaned?

You mean the inside? I would not recommend it. You might do more harm than good.

Dust gets into lenses all the time. It's natural because of the air displacement during zooms. You'll see little dust now, but through use you'll get more dust. It's just the way it is.

I don't like to describe things like "extremely sharp!" or "tack sharp!" because honestly, when I was shopping for lenses and I hear people say that, I immediately set the bar high for that product only to be disappointed when I get it.

But I'll say this, I am extremely satisfied with the 15-85 and it is my "daily driver." My experience with it coming from the dreaded 18-55 is that the corners are so much sharper even at the 15mm end. And what's great about this lens is that there's so much packed into it. It has IS, USM, and UD element.

Thanks! I think I'm gonna take the shot. I want it to be my "daily driver" too. But yeah...i want it to be above the kit lenses, optically, and the wide angle is a big plus for landscapes.

That doesn't work. Familiar in size, but not balance. And even the size it bigger.

Yea the balance isn't the same on a gripped body and the body flexes too when using a tripod and a heavyish lens. Plus I love how the 1 series is full weather sealed, did not bat an eye when I got caught in a down pour and continued to take pics

Anyways I'm not going to get a body anytime soon. Gonna spend that money and buy gear that I've been putting off for too long.

Such as tripod legs to go with my manfrotto ballhead I bought from someone on azine like 3-4 years ago

so uh, I guess it's fake. and I guess that makes sense, aside from everything else, merely because I don't think an eagle would be able to lift that much weight.

I have to say, the gripped 5D3 feels more solid and tank-like than the 1Ds3... the ergonomics of the new grip combined with the 5D3's ergonomics is really nice. The materials are nicer, and it feels heavier and it's also slightly bigger.

I haven't held a gripped 5D2 but looking at photos of it, it doesn't look much different than the 5Dc's, in fact it looks about the same. With the gripped 5Dc it feels much more like you are holding a body with a grip attached - the grip feels separate from the body - just due to it's design. I think this is a big factor in the feeling. I am not sure whether this info will be useful to anyone (seeing how you are talking about the 5D2) but figured it was relevant.

HOLY CRAP! Future Shop and Best Buy are both selling Nikon D600 + 24-85mm for $2000!! In both the US and Canada. That's a great price, especially for Canada! EVEN I'm tempted

edit: Actually, this is the price going on with Adorama AND B&H as well... and it's actually been on sale for at least a couple days now, I just now found out

This 3 month free thing popped up on the top section of my screen when I logged on to flickr on Friday night. I didn't have to go to any deals site. Anyway, now I've got a 3 month extension on my Pro account which was gonna expire next week

look what my dumb ass did at Studio Paris Saturday night... this is at the end of the night, and the product of 3 (strong) Long Island's, and 3 Coronas. I usually don't drink there but I felt 'festive' this night. I had the camera on the bar in a precarious perch I guess and it just fell off when my attention was elsewhere for a moment. I'm lucky the camera and flash are ok, it was a drop of about 4 feet onto hard floor. :shug: the lens snapped right off, leaving the end (mount) part of it attached to the camera.

ha. it's the first lens I've broke. I'm kind of amazed by that lol

I have it insured indirectly through homeowner's but people are telling me that this can be fixed and that it is not that bad, from the look of it. So that is the road I will go down. Hopefully it can be fixed, I really love this lens.

Looks like the ribbon is torn. That increases complexity of repair. Even if you fix it, do you really still want it? You could try to sell it for parts on ebay if you want an easy way out.

I'd also give it a shot sending it to Canon and seeing what they say, looks bad....but not that bad

Worst case, at least its insured, and I see 17-40's used for around $400 all the time
