I miss my 03 CL-S :(
My introduction to Gursky was while taking photography classes, where they had a huge print of "99 Cent" by the classrooms:
![](http://asuartmuseum.asu.edu/2001/gursky/images/gursky99cent.jpg)
The colors, composition and repetition were immediately striking. I saw this photograph every time I walked to the classrooms.
One day while walking around the Smithsonian I saw a food vendor and my immediate reaction was to think about his work, so I took this photo:
![](http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6018/5904710314_d4567c3490_m.jpg)
Everything in its Place by ep_jhu, on Flickr
Very quickly it went to top 100 on Explore and it was featured as 'photo of the day' on a local blog.
There's something about his style that is so mundane yet unique... it seems to be quite popular. I honestly do not understand why it's so popular.

If you're anything like us, a trip to the Optometrist is a real treat. It's like a Photographer's dreamland! Full of big, beautiful, and fascinating optical gadgets.
After all, getting new glasses is like getting a new lens for your brain. (If only our health insurance covered a Canon L lens).
That must be why The iPhone Lens Dial caught our EYE (heh). It looks just like a Phoropter, that doohickey the doc uses to test our sight!
The iPhone Lens Dial boasts three optical-quality coated glass lenses: Wide Angle, Fisheye, and Telephoto. All wrapped up in a slim aircraft-grade aluminum jacket equipped with two tripod mounts (for portrait or landscape shots).
To switch between lenses just rotate the disc! Best part: the lenses never leave your phone, so they're always at the ready.
Use the 0.7x Wide Angle for sweeping landscapes or get fun warped images with the 0.33x Fisheye. Switch to the 1.5x Telephoto and get nearly two times closer to your subject. Wowza.
The Lens Dial: like a new pair of spectacles for your iPhone!
3-in-1 lens set: Fisheye, Wide Angle, and Telephoto
Optical-quality coated glass lenses
Slim aircraft-grade aluminum case
Rotate the dial to switch lenses!
Case has two tripod mounts (for portrait/landscape)
Weighs just 10 oz
Made for iPhone 4/4s only

...so, this picture I took back in June at Cars/Coffee-Irvine Cali when I was home visiting has never really gotten any views on Flickr (along with the rest of the car pics from that day), but today alone it's gotten over 1,300 views and the number is still claiming. Someone must have stumbled upon it and passed it around... but it's killing me where
(and tineye.com isn't showing anything)

Cool. Adobe had a deal yesterday which supposedly let you get the PS upgrade To CS5 for $130. They had it advertised, but I couldn't get it via their store.

all work and no play
I was walking around the local lake the other day with my fiancee when I happened to notice a mammoth lens poking out from behind an suv. As I walked by I saw what had to have been a 400-500mm prime lens, I looked at the body and saw something no bigger than this on the end of it.

So I got bored and did a little more coding against the Flickr API... I pulled all comments for all photos I've posted this year and made a word cloud from the results:

Needs more Lemon Pledge
I have a friend who is having a baby soon and wants a new camera to be able to take pics of the kid. DSLR is probably too much for her, but I don't know enough about the current state of Point and Shoots to recommend any.
Are there any P+S that have fast shutter response times like a DSLR that are not super expensive? The $799 price tag of the kit's at Costco for the T2/T3 packages were too much for her.
Thoughts on a good P+S with quick shutter response and good image quality?

I would make sure a dSLR is NOT what she wants or not what she needs before getting a P&S because it seems like that's the trend lately for new parents (dSLRs that is). But then again... with Costco, you have 90 days to return on cameras

Regarding P&S, I think it would be optimal for her to get a fast lens so she can get good indoor shots. You're not gonna get quite the response time of a DSLR in a P&S but these aren't too bad (keeping cost in mind):
Panasonic LX5
Canon S95
two more to consider:
Canon G12
Nikon P7000 had a MSRP of $499 when it was released, its now listed at just $278 at Amazon - there is a newer model (P7100, $430) but this is some bang for the buck, IMO:
if she wants to keep it a small P&S and simple,
Canon SD4000

Sold my T1i because I thought I was getting a 60D and the difference was only going to cost me $100. Turns out the 60D was only available in limited quantities and I didn't get one. So now I have no camera or video camera for X-Mas.

You mentioned Rebel T3 at $799, I see it at Amazon for $409 body only. Add a 50mm 1.8 lens and you are at $500. Not bad at all for a DSLR + lens. And of course you can add more lenses later. Slap that into Auto and you are gonna get decent shots. and nice shutter feel of a DSLR.

850. I thought it was a steal for what good condition it was. I bought it from a wedding shooter who has 2 5D2's as primary and 2 5Dc's as backups. He said he had bought this camera from an older man, and it's clear that it wasn't used very much. All of the controls show pretty much zero sign of wear, the clicks are all tight, etc. LCD is flawless, etc. I am quite happy.

Btw he is also selling his other 5dC, which he says is not quite as good condition as the one I bought, but from what he described its still very good. He will sell that one for around 800. If anyone interested, lemme know.
