Yea it is heavy. But the battery issue isn't really that big of an issue. It's only an issue for me since I don't shoot for like 5-6 months at a time

Anyone have any thoughts on non-paper prints?
I'm thinking of getting this photo printed in this medium(8x10).

There's a mixed-media art exhibit coming up that I think would be a good place to experiment with stuff, so I'm thinking about options other than just print/frame or canvas.

for Christmas, my wife had one of my favorite photos (that I took) printed on metal, it's pretty cool actually.

Someone gave me one of my prints on wood, which is neat because it's a photo of trees, but the colors on the wood medium are a little different and I would have adjusted it a bit for the medium. Metal would have been better.

All in all, though, it's a really thoughtful gift, since I rarely, if ever, print out my own images.

I would not do that image on canvas. I would crop it a little bit more to get the plane larger and then print it bigger than 8x10.

Yeah it's 4x6 on flickr, but it's 4x5 on my submission. Unfortunately that's close crop already with only 1054px on the horizontal (and that was at 200mm), so I'm afraid of going bigger than 8x10.

One of the judges called the 4 photos I submitted "stunning", so that's a good sign.

finally had a chance to sit down with the 7D and figure out the focus issue. Previous owner had auto focus turned off in the programming, makes much more sense to me now.

So I've never stitched a pano together in PS before and am having a hell of a time trying to figure it out. I've done the automatic photomerge route and that isn't working so I wanna just try to hand stitch them together. can someone give me a little advice

my advice is, try Microsoft ICE if you're on PC or Hugin if you're on Mac, see how those work out for you.

Photoshop's merge while decent is not nearly as user-friendly as the above.

PS, provides me pretty good results 90% of the time. Make sure the you overlap your images about 20% to allow any problem to stitch properly.

Yea I finally used the m$ ice program after downloading it months ago. Works great.

Just gave ICE a try, struck out with using a seven image pano I put together last weekend. It kept giving me double image in the center.

Hey thanks!! That worked flawlessly, It stitched it all together nicely 11 shot milky way pano. I don't know why PS couldn't, I spent a couple hours in PS CC trying to do it and finally gave up and then just spent 2 min on ice and it's done.

Well, the tricky part about panoramic software, it's good to have a few in your arsenal, because each panorama is unique and it's frequently the case that one program can do a better job than another. You kind of have to play with them to see which one is working best.

Oh yeah there is also the question of speed. ICE is really quick to not only stitch but also export, quicker than any others I've tried.

Seemed about the same for what I just did, and that was seven 200mb tiff files. Took longer to export.

You think Hugin is user friendly? I couldn't figure it to save my ass. I just ended up trashing it.

open hugin, drag your files into it, hit Align, make any adjustments, and then Create Panorama. it is not too bad.

I never even got to make adjustment. it was so frakin complex. maybe I'll give it another shot.


No...not happening. I use commas in my file name so hugin won't open them.

Damn I hate selling stuff online!

I have two lenses up for sale and have a buyer lined up on one of them who expresses interest, ask for paypal info, then nothing. Meanwhile I have others PM'ing me about it asking if it's still available but want to give the original person one last chance to make up their mind.

Think I should give that first person until noon or just sell to the next?
