I have some more details, it's actually my friend's wife who is selling the camera - and I know her much better than I know him. And, she is selling it because she is expecting. This is a perfect scenario! It will prolly be gone very soon.

From Bloomberg

Canon Inc. and Nikon Corp. the world’s two biggest makers of high-end cameras, may be missing out on the industry’s biggest technology shift since film rolls became obsolete.

The two Tokyo-based companies use mirrors in all cameras with interchangeable lenses, a technique Sony Corp. (6758) is shifting away from. As a result, Canon and Nikon’s combined share of the Japanese market has fallen by 35 percent, while Sony’s share has doubled, according to estimates at research firm BCN Inc.

Sony's SLT cameras aren't exactly "mirrorless", but "translucent"

Yes, but from long video shoots (I believe), they supposedly fixed the issue with the a77

Plus the mirror in SLT cameras cause the sensor to lose about 2/3rd to a stop of light. No thanks.

But the article is I think talking about the NEX series...

Anyways I dont see mirrorless replacing an actual mirror anytime soon, unless they can drastically improve AF performance with contrast detect or like mentioned have the phase detect autofocus sensor integrated into the image sensor.

I forgot about the NEX bring mirrorless... But if they can fix the 2/3 stop thingy for the next FF, I'll be getting one for sure

it'll be impossible to remove the loss of light since they are using a fixed translucent mirror to project some of the light up to the auto focus sensor.

the only way around it would be going back to a SLR or mirrorless like the NEX or 4/3s cameras

Meh' I'm quite content with what I have. I'm not gonna worry about it until the a900 dies. For now, I'll just enjoy what I've got and shoot happy.

Man! For someone who doesn't shoot much these days you sure follow camera gear news a lot

Yeah they do themes on other boards I'm on, it works pretty well. They are introduced weekly but stay open and have no date requirements. It's nice because they become "targets" you think about in daily life, things to look out for and shoot. Now, I think we have a good number of targeted threads like this here already, they just haven't been bumped in a while.

threads that have worked out well:
urban fragments
night shots
sunset
clouds
candids (I think we have one here)

yeah, we have other broader threads in place for such purposes. but if anyone feels like creating a Theme thread for something specific, go for it. And by specific I mean like something the photo contest threads have been like.

I find the idea of theme threads boring and would probably not click on them. I like to see things mixed. Who the hell wants to see 20 pages of clouds? Plus if you have things like a "flowers thread", you'll only get 1-2 people that really like to shoot flowers and not as much interaction as you'd get from something like the random pics thread.

The same thing happens with flickr pools. I may belong to a "clouds" pool in the event I ever take a pic I could submit it, but I never go into it to see the photos posted, because, well, who the hell wants to see pages upon pages of clouds. The flickr pools I find myself browsing are the ones that are more general and have a variety of subjects.

It was just a thought We'll just keep it to the 3 main threads "HDR" "C&P" and "Randon Pics"

Though it's only been finished for a few months, the "footprints" and building them has taken awhile. And they have talked about it for the last five to seven years.
