it's built so well. after a long time using it this one time I was at a friend's and wanted to take some city shots but didn't have tripod with me - but he had one - a cheap one - so he was like you can use this - uh yeah I pretty much snapped that thing in half when I was tightening the head I was just so used to the Manfrotto

I have an old Manfrotto from the 90's, it's kinda heavy but it's sturdy as hell. However, I'm also considering getting something lighter

If you are going to put weight on it, get a three section.

you are gonna love me......... I've been doing more research... one area where the 5D3 > D800..... high ISO performance.... given how I do most of my work in low light.... the 5D3 is making more sense to me.... add to that not having to build up lens collection from scratch... D800 is better for landscape work but honestly these days I'm doing more people work.... 36mp is overkill....... ok, talk to you later

5D3 is only better when you are comparing FULL SIZED files of each cameras...by the time the D800 is downrezzed to a similar size as the 5d3 or smaller the ISO performance in low light is pretty comparable or better.

DING! DING! DING! This is a very practical approach! If I was making a major move like a platform change, you better convince me that the D800 is 100% worth it and it's competitor is UTTER GARBAGE.

Oh you mean things the internet is telling you?

If i go look at all the tin foil hat wearers on the canon sites how many "issues" will I find with the 5D3?

Have you seen green tint in any of my shots? focus issues? As for WB...I shoot in RAW, so if its actually true and not blown out of proportion what do I care? Only affect jpeg shooters.

Umm...if you are shooting video at iso 6400, than you need to be slapped..if you are doing it and calling yourself a pro, you should be beaten and outed as a fraud.

1250 is pushing it for any ideal situation with these new bodies...really 800 and under.

PS: The 5D3 cant record "uncompressed" out of it HDMI which yields more latitude to work with in post...

IIRC, you don't have a lot of lenses anyways. But it's your choice.

Buy what you think is best for you, not what others want you to use. I know those Canon people you hang with are about to hang themselves thinking you're going to buy a Nikon.

I always do color correction, it doesn't matter if it was this body or the D3 or my GF1.

You know what, dont buy the D800, it sucks. its full of nothing but problems and issues. Its the worst most unreliable camera Ive ever owned.

Its sucks a fat dick. Stay away form the D800.

Is it possible for you to rent one so you can try it out for yourself instead of just going by what everyone else is saying?

I've read a couple of reviews that say the new "RATE" button next to the LCD (on the 5D3) is silly / unnecessary. Uh yeah the RATE button = GREAT. I just had a shoot (with a wonderful model btw) and she easily looked through the photos and rated them 1-5 stars, and now when I import them into LR, they are already starred accordingly. Before this I'd have to have them tell me which numbers they liked either by email after looking at proofs, or on location they tell me and I have to jot down the numbers on my phone and then go through at home looking for and marking each picture by hand. RATE button = WIN. What a timesaver.
