I know what you mean. I used to look at some of the stuff posted in here, and want to throw my camera in the trash at times

hey come on - you *should* never be DIScouraged by photos, only ENcouraged! my 2 cents. you see something you like, ask about it. find out about it. This is not rocket science, it's just a question of practice, experimentation, and general trial/error. Find out what works, find out what doesn't.

btw here's a comparo processed vs original - the original is good for what its good for - but I have to say, I prefer the detail of the processed..

^ I'll agree with Srika. Look at everyones work, decide what you like. There is no shame in copying what you see. Try it, see what it takes to make it work, from there your own style will take over in time, and will usually evolve constantly. Unless your name is Rubin, then youre destined to produce hdr's forever

What's your favorite color?

Sorry...seriously, I agree - I prefer the detail and "pop" of the newly processed one. It's hot.

I appreciate how willing people are to share techniques in this forum. On many of the big camera forums, people may be happy to share shooting technique, but processing is very close to the vest.

7D test shots, 200 2.8 @ 2.8, SOOC, no sharpening, only resized - this cam makes me see how dull the 5D is! I always had to sharpen any picture on it. Or, is it the lens?

200mm is a lot to hold on on a cropped body without IS... it's tough. I think I'll be bringing my tripod to the wedding.

for you, the one that admitted recently that he never uses his tripod? Yeah.

I'd still bring it though even with high ISO, better to have and not need, you might wanna practice some lowish light handheld portraits with that combo first though

I shot second shooter at a wedding with 70-200. I used a monopod - I would have died without it. I think a tripod might be too intrusive and cumbersome.

first time trying the moon, shot this hand-held with the 7D + 200, how did I do? I haven't looked at enough moon shots to make any judgment. But I do know this is my best attempt, I've tried in the past and failed miserably.

I did sharpen and do some detailing.

Rubin, I set up a tripod in the choir loft at a church for a wedding I was second-shooting, but was mobile with my other camera body during the ceremony. The other wedding I shot, I was completely mobile the whole time. Everything is so dynamic, I want to be able to move, for the most part. It totally depends on the venue, though. And the style/length of the ceremony to an extent. It's always good to have one, I think, but I won't be surprised if you report back that it stayed in your car.

I like the shot, but I have 2 things to say, 1) it will look better if you make it warmer (less blue) and 2) its oversharpened a tad. Can I show you how it looks warmer?

I like green, purple, and black.

I *feel* like people are getting more open about techniques and things, here and there. Here's a neat thread about post processing techniques on POTN, people are sharing tutorials and everything -

ok here's my edit - all I did was adjust the color balance to make it warmer. personally I think color balance makes a HUGE difference in photos. What do you think? Do you think it looks better?
