That's another thing that bothers me about Scion version. It's Scion in the States.

Gearing. The Si is in third gear when it hits 60, the BRZ/FRS hits it at the top of second. The Si also puts down a bit more power at the wheels and has more torque.
But, Ive read that the actual 0-60 time for the BRZ/FRS was ~6.7s, not 7.3. I believe it was Edmunds that got the 7.3s time, and Motor Trend got the 6.7.

Really, the difference isn't that big. These cars aren't really designed for straight line performance...but for the sake of comparison, it's really down to the drivers. They are both high 14's/low 15's cars trapping just over 90mph.

Scion is allowing test drives on May 5th for those of you in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium:

The first shipment of FR-S'/BRZs has landed at the Port of Los Angeles as of 4/24. The cars will be released 4/30, and then freighted to the respective dealers.
My dealer called me two days ago to say they will be getting my VIN soon. They also said theyd like to do some sort of car show thing, but my response was "wait until I test drive it and sign the paperwork". I havent driven the car, I dont know for sure if I want it.

I still think this would be such a tough decision for me between this and the GTI... I dunno which I would take!

I want it.
And now that this and BRZ are out, I would take these cars over GTI or Mazdaspeed3 anyday.

According to the latest Car & Driver, the BRZ Limited (which is just slightly heavier then the FRS) matches the GTI in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs with 6.3s and 14.9@95mph respectively.
I will absolutely concede that the GTI has a nicer interior and is easier to mod (thanks to its factory turbo'd engine). But its still FWD.
I hopped on the FRS forum today for the first time in about 3 weeks. I took a break from it to really think about if I should get it or not. As of now, I still want it. And I think Ive swayed back to the FRS. The BRZ has a nicer interior for sure, but its more of a daily driver replacement. Im looking for a weekend car. Something to just have tons of fun with. Ive looked at MX5s, but the interior is way too cramped for me. I like to go to meets and car shows, and sometimes that means driving 200 miles one way to get there. I doubt Id be able to do it in the MX5.
Im going to call the dealer tomorrow and find out if they have a list for accessories yet. They said its cheaper to have them installed at the port, so if there is anything on that list that I want, now is the time to say so. I also need to pressure them to give me a VIN so I can get an insurance quote. Thats the one thing Im really scared of.
Im still hesitant about this party/car show that the dealer wants to throw. I really dont want all the attention

I can't imagine insurance on this car will be much.
What kind of AKS are you wondering about. Because to me the car is the perfect blank canvas. Start with that...drive it, learn about it, and roll with it from there rather than potentially waste money on something you don't need.

Aks = accessories?
Really the only one Im interested is the clear bra. Its all highway where I live and that destroys the front end. My CL looks horrendous. If they offer it, the HomeLink mirror as well just for the convenience, but I can always get that later and install it myself.

The warranty is nice and all, but the price isnt. They are supposedly testing out the supercharger kit for it, but Id much rather go turbo. But, if I get the car, thats not for another 3-4 years. I want to learn the cars limits and, most importantly, my limits.

I think you'll be extremely thrilled with this car.
The auto week review states the FR-S set up is designed to have less understeer than the BRZ.
I haven't been this excited about an import sports coupe in YEARS. I mean I'm not dumping my car ....but it would be a nice pick up one day. Or least to drive one.

My favorite part, the big tach, front and center:
I know my pics suck, but the lighting in there was horrible.
The GTI is a great car, but its still FWD. Ive also considered the Golf R, but its expensive and more of a DD then a weekend car.

1) the pics aren't horrible
2) this isn't a photography thread, and not everything I take is gold.

The design is a little cooler in some regards, but honestly they seem to feel very similar in photos.
The fact the there will be 10k Scions in country before year end and only 6k subarus is only going to drive demand even more.
Ive got plenty a bad taste in my mouth from all the subie dealers around here from my days of looking at STis.
I'll go for Scions set/locked pricing over the markups subie dealers are already trying to impose.

Just got a call from the local Subie dealer. They are getting their first BRZ shipment on next weekend. I'll probably go check it out.

to me the real difference for the interiors fall on the radio. In the frs it just doesnt look like it belongs.
And the seats? I haven't sat in them but i'm guessing the scion is all cloth while the brz isn't. Thats really all I can think of.
The dash on both cars probably use the same materials otherwise.
I'd get a brz IF there were no markups. Otherwise I'd just get the scion.

The interiors are identical. The BRZ has different seat covers and heated seats in the Limited model. The seats are surprisingly supportive, and the all cloth seats in the FRS didnt even strike me as "cheap". They felt much better then what you'd get in a Civic.
When the time comes, however, I plan on swapping out the seats for some lighter fixed buckets.
The inserts on the dash are just painted silver, making the BRZ interior brighter. That just takes 2 hours of either paint or vinyl work to address.
The radio is a moot point. Subie navigation units are not known for being great, and the radio is actually less powerful then the 300w system in the FRS. I dont remember the exact number on the BRZ buts its less then 200w. Both have 8 speakers. If you really wanted to, you could get the new Pioneer AppRadio2 for ~$500, and it interfaces with your iPhone or Android phone for MP3s, navi, and a whole bunch of other apps. The only downside is it is missing a sub preamp output.
Ive said it before though, Im not buying the car for the radio. Dont be surprised if I rip it out entirely. The first major mod on my list is a diet. Id love to get the car down to around 2600lbs wet. Its going to be difficult in this car though because most of the parts are already very light, though Im hoping for at least a 35lb weight reduction with a new exhaust setup.
Jack - Scion has said that all First 86 cars need to be delivered no later then May 18th. Since the cars are supposedly sitting in the lot at the Port of LA and expected to be released this Monday, it should realistically only take another week for me to take delivery. Im jealous of those on the west coast though, they have been told to expect delivery by May 3rd
Also, they are saying that Jack Hollis, the VP of Scion, confirmed that the First 86 cars will have some sort of identifying badges, but unfortunately the VINs are not in sequential order

Wait are you planning on making this a weekend warrior?? If thats the case I hope you plan on auto crossing and tracking and just not hitting the back roads! Otherwise I don't see the point of axing out the radio and all.
I think I would do the stereo upgrade if it was me.

^ And that, along with the front bumper and headlights, pretty much sums up the differences between the two.
I do admit I want the keyless access/start, but at the same time, thats a bit of an oddity given the direction I want to take the car.

Yeah, pristine condition S2Ks (especially AP2s) seem to have held their value extraordinarily well.
