I've been out of the loop on the price of 911s because I don't have $100k sitting around but holy sheet ... They are expensive.
$134k for a 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet? I remember when you could get a 911GT3 for less than that new.
The new 911 is pretty sweet though, I'll give them that.

I don't know if it's BS or not but a friend of mine said that Porsche is one of the most profitable car companies out there.
I dunno.... loaded question, but what's so great about the GT2 RS that it costs four times as much as it's base model does? $245,000 for a GT2 RS vs. $80,000 for a Carrera.
People bitch about the ZR1 being an overpriced Corvette. That's just $110k vs $50k.

there's something about this generation that makes it appear more of a "supercar" than ever before. i cant put my finger on it. maybe the body is lower/ wider, with more bulbous contours. or it could just be the wrap-around windshield and fastback greenhouse. the body seems more purposeful and aerodynamic this time around.

^^ I'm feeling where you're coming from. the taillights don't seem as 'playful' as in past versions, the wheels and tires fill out what seem to be bigger wheelwells, and generally the other cosmetic changes attribute to that same feeling.

I'm not a huge audiophile but FWIW I have heard good things about Burmester.

Seriously, at that pricepoint of 115K I'm in V8 R8 territory and perhaps in a few months used V10 R8 territory. F-cars and Lambos are not sensible as DD that I need and would run $150K or so for used F430 or LP560-4.
I took out an artic silver 09 C2 Cab with PDK on Sat with my GF for fun and I must admit the PDK is a lot more sensible for the traffic around here. It did not have the Sports Chrono Plus package or the paddle shifters which would cost about $2.5K to retrofit. Power is a wash moving from my C2S (355) to the 997.2 C2 (345 plus DFI). Still fun to drive with the top down though some yahoo on a Hayabusa pulled up next to me and revved his engine. In a coupe it's easier to ignore them.

wow, that is way better than any previous iteration. looks great! I think this is going to turn a lot of people towards Porsche because one of 911's weaknesses in the past was its interior

Yeah I was super worried it was going to be a Panameresque interior but looks like they toned it down while making it a little more upscale than the 997 interior. So many of us Porschephiles are fearful of change
but my patient (head service manager at Porsche) said it best "It's about evolution and not revolution".

No doubt...seriously, did Porsche steal someone from Audi's interior design team? This is really well done.

OK this is just feeding fuel to the fire, I keep playing with the online configurator for the 991.
"Porsche signs exclusive deal with EA Need for Speed The Run"
How come the automatic spoiler doesn't deploy? I'm sure the C2S is going over 70 mph. Silly EA designers LOL

Something I don't get... If the "911" was supposedly Porsche's "911th" design, then was this so called 991 up their sleeve before even the 993?
Tongue in cheek there, but I'm confused.

Seriously that new 911 is amazing.
And the 991 Carrera S is as fast at the 'Ring as the 997 GT3 ... And 13 seconds faster than the previous S.

There is buzz about a specific "track configuration." A porsche engineer said that they were able to lap the ring 7:33 in a 991s. I forgot where the article is with the flood or new ones coming out everyday. But, obviously, it exists because multiple people have mentioned speeds faster than 7:40.
Anyhoo, I'll wait for Sportauto to put down some numbers

All-new Porsche 911 lops 13 seconds off its Nurburgring best lap time
16 September 2011
By JAMES STANFORD in FRANKFURT
THE new Porsche 911 is 13 seconds faster around the famed Nurburgring than the current model, lapping the German circuit in 7 min. 40 sec. in testing.
Porsche 911 vehicle line director August Achleitner said the new 911 Carrera S, armed with a 20mm lower sports suspension and regular tyres, was now as fast around the famed circuit as the previous generation’s race-ready 911 GT3.
The new 911, which made its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show this week, is due in Australia in March.
After a series of documented spats with Nissan over which car was faster at Nurburging, the 911 or the Nissan GT-R, with the Nissan now claiming a 7m 24 sec time, Porsche no longer seems worried about pressing for the fastest possible times.
“It is not so important for us; it is just for comparison (with the previous model),” Mr Achleitner told GoAuto.
The new time was set with a PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission and the new active Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control hydraulically activated anti-roll bar system – a different system to that used on the Panamera and Cayenne.
The Type 991 version of the 911 has a new 3.4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine generating 3kW more than the 3.6-litre unit it replaces, while the Carerra S version manages 294kW (up 11kW).
A central part of improving the 911’s pace was keeping the weight under control.
Mr Achleitner said the 911 took on around 80kg in parts, including heavier wheels, idle-stop components and additional structural parts to meet current and future crash regulations.
Even so, the engineers reduced the weight of the larger new model by between 35kg to 45kg.
Mr Achleitner said the team drew inspiration from the motorcycle world during the weight reduction drive.
“We had several workshops and we laid out all the parts on the table and discussed them and compared with motorcycle parts and why are they so light and we are heavy and then change them again,” he said.
The regular 911 does not have carbon-fibre, but Mr Achleitner left the door open to using it for some elements of the sportier 911s and race cars.
“We have some opportunity to take carbon fibre parts for sport versions and so on, for example the roof system … the whole module can be replaced with carbon fibre,” he said.
“But for series production car, it (carbon-fibre) does not make sense because it is still too expensive, and from the production point of view we would expect problems with the process, being able to get out enough parts.”
Mr Achleitner said Porsche used a reasonable amount of aluminium in the new 911, but maintained a steel body.
“It is not our target to replace all the steel with aluminium,” he said. “Our target is to use the right material at the right place. We could not replace steel with aluminum because we would require much more space from the frames and so on.”
The new 911 has taken on some high tensile steel, which Achleitner says has helped create a stiffer body which he said should be the most noticeable on the cabriolet.
