I'd say that I'm excited for these to depreciate to the point I can buy one but we all know that won't ever happen.

And @Tech I'm super glad I got my 992.1 T with a 7 speed manual as it's looking more and more like Porsche's newest engine isn't compatible with anything other than a PDK transmission. Don't get me wrong, if I buy another P car it will be a Cayman with a PDK transmission for the track.

A PDK is what I am in on the track. You can concentrate on your driving, especially if it is a tight track where you would be rowing all the time.

I’ve been looking for a manual 718 cayman but maybe I should consider PDK?
i wanted a manual because I’ve never had a manual car. I do know how to drive it. (Probably rusty tho)

If you're going to track your Cayman you'll be quicker in a PDK-equipped car. At Watkins Glen (Monday-Tues ) I downshift from 5th to 3rd at Turn 1 back up to 5th on the back straight down to 3rd for Inner Loop, up to 4th thru Turn 6, down to 3rd Turn 7 (same for 8&9), back up to 4th thru 10, down to 3rd Turn 11 back up to 5th down the front straight. So not a lot of shifting given the length of the track but I'd be a lot faster with a PDK car undoubtedly. When guys like Hurley Haywood and Andy Lally tell you the PDK car is the best transmission on the track, they're not kidding.

I would want to track the Cayman but I dunno how often I would.
closest tracks to me are Sonoma or Laguna Seca. And those are 1.5-2.5 hours away. Buttonwillow and Willow Springs are like 4hrs.
If anything I would do more spirited canyon drives since there are a ton near where I live.
maybe I shouldn’t rule out PDK. They are also “cheaper”

Whats up with RDX owners?

If you're searching for every tenth, go pdk. If you do track days for funsies, get the manual.

Yup, Manual all the way for me.
Closest tracks for me are 3+ hours. Autocross is held her in Houston, not as much manual/DCT advantage there.

Don't get me wrong, I love my manual 992, especially at the Glen. I changed some approaches and shifting last 6 times out and I'm clearly faster as a result by my instructor's observations. I was hangin out with two guys with PDK equipped Caymans, one a GTS, the other a GT4 and the GTS driver is at least 5 seconds/lap faster than me. Granted they both have over 20 DE's but still . . . .

Does the 992 have auto rev matching?
You're at a huge disadvantage with the manual vs the PDK but you're having a lot more fun doing it. It's not like you're racing for money where every tenth matters, just out there having fun and getting better.

COTA is the closest 'big' track to me. Would love to turn some laps there.
We have MSR in south Houston, looks to be a 17 turn/2.3 mile track, have done their karting track, but never looked into their HPDE.

@Mizouse The Glen is 2.25 away from me and I've been there 5x already this summer, distance isn't an excuse bro!
edit:
diving COTA is on my bucket list, that will get done in a few years. Also after following Chief’s posts here, The Glen has made it on that list

@PhilB81 Put these on your reading list, they all run events at the Glen. I just did my first Trackmasters and really enjoyed their event.
