What I was referring to was there's a family resemblance, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Especially with the polished aluminum wheels, which share a similar look/design. I particularly like the Optima, moreso than the Genesis.

It cracks me up the collective hummer the Genesis receives on Azine, yet very few have actually bought one.

The Sonata and the Optima share the same platform, components, engines, trannies, etc. Hyundai and Kia are definitely the same family.

I think the R-Spec Genesis, with its increased chrome and multi-spoke machine-polished wheels, reminds me of the Optima, I'm not sure what is the big deal.

I sat in the Genesis sedan at the toronto auto show last week and the interior is incredible. The fit and finish was just as good as the mercedes S-class. I didn't used to think much of Hyundai but I think they have caught up to the Jap and German brands. Even the Elantra had a high quality fit and finish that was well above the level of quality in the Civic and Corolla.

Hopefully the Genesis 4.6 will depreciate fast and I'll be able to pick one up cheap when it's time to replace my TL in a year or two.

MY2012 Spied

When it launched in early 2008, the popular Genesis Coupe led the charge in Hyundai's rush toward becoming a respected brand with its pulse on the international market.

However, as the company continues to make rapid progress with the styling of each new model, the Genesis Coupe has fallen behind.

Now, as the 2012 model year looms, new spy photos obtained this week show that the Genesis Coupe will soon get its first major update.

With significant camouflage obscuring most details, it's clear the sporty rear-wheel-drive Korean will at least get new or updated lights at both ends.

Camouflage along the rear quarter panels and doors suggest the Coupe's dramatic character lines may also be up for an overhaul.

Whether the update will be accompanied by technical upgrades remains to be seen, although there is speculation that Hyundai's 287kW 4.6 litre or 320kW 5.0 litre 'Tau' V8 engines could find their way into the line-up.

Power for the Genesis Coupe is currently provided by a naturally-aspirated 234kW V6, along with a 160kW turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Australia

An Australia debut for the Genesis Coupe has so far been stonewalled by the absence of a right-hand-drive version of the Genesis Coupe.

Thanks to pressure from the UK market however, Hyundai is understood to have green-lit the development of a right-hook Genesis Coupe.

Whether that version will show up in the current generation or, a few years from now, in the second-generation Genesis Coupe remains to be seen.

Motor Trend

Judging by these spyshots of a pre-production 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe sliding around on the ice in Sweden, could this mark the coupe’s debut of an all-wheel-drive model? Err, no not likely, but they do provide one of our first glimpses at the Genesis Coupe’s refresh for the 2012 model year.
We’re already fans of the current car, which competes with more popular muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang. Unlike those domestic nameplates, though, the Genesis Coupe offers four- and six-cylinder powerplants. That may not change for the 2012 model year, but the power ratings likely will. Currently, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four makes 210 horsepower and hits 30 mpg on the highway. The 3.8-liter V-6 is good for 306 horsepower.
Soon, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will face competition from below, as well, with the release of the rear-wheel-drive Toyota and Subaru sports coupes. On the Genesis Coupe, it appears the Hyundai will undergo changes to the front fascia and taillights to keep the styling fresh. The car in these photos appears to wear wheels similar to those now found on the performance-oriented R-Spec models. Don’t be surprised to see a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission on the 2012 coupe

No RHD Genesis coupe ...

There are 76 countries that use RHD ... UK, Japan, Australia, South Africa, and India are the biggest ... Not enough market there?

Praying the 2.0T goes up to Sonata/Optima levels of power and the price remains relatively close to what it is now.

I understand that they need to keep models fresh but they seem to do it pretty quickly. Their resale value isnt all that great as is and this will just make it worse, no?

They are totally thinking short term and I just hope it doesnt come back to bight them in the ass. Also, the coupe has been around since 2008 in more or less the exact same shape.

Official launch of the MY2012 Coupe in the United States is January, 2012. Production at the Ulsan plant began this month. We get cars in the U.S. 6 months after, so the timeline makes sense.

I was just in Korea 3 weeks ago at the global R&D center and saw the camouflaged Coupes being tested.

The best information I have is that the January, 2012 USDM Coupe will NOT receive any major changes. But the MY2013 will get powertrain upgrades (GDI V6, 8AT), interior changes, new wheels and a face lifted front. Head lights and tail lights will go LED. The front end design will be more in alignment with the corporate theme, resembling the Veloster. No changes to the rear bumper from what I've been told.

Bad news - potentially no more Brembo calipers. The 8-speed auto is in-house; it may not be as smooth as the ZF unit.

No word on the 2.0T receiving a bump in power?

And wasn't the interior on the 11 changed or was that more of a revision?

I've been eating my words a lot lately. once a dedicated honda/acura man... I know have a 5.0 mustang and a 3.8 Gen Coupe Grand Touring.

Honda/Acura refused to build me a RWD sports coupe, I finally gave in to what i had been threatening for years, and jumped ship.

All this being said. a 5.0 Gen coupe would be a greatt combo Car is a blast to drive and while I dont find the 3.8 lacking in anyway... the feel of my mustang with the tight feeling suspension of the Gen Coupe would definitely be on the top of my shopping list for the next car.

It really just changed the dash panels. The layout remained the same.

The word is that the dashboard itself will be redesigned.

I don't have ALL the details right now because I haven't seen the product launch book. Hope to get my paws on it soon.

With the GDI V6 cranking out probably 350 hp (sedan now gets 333, and coupe always had more out of the same engine) mated to an 8-speed and a host of other changes, I'm probably going to trade my 2011 in. So I have a personal interest in this matter.

The Genesis sedan's V8 (4.6 & 5.0) can take regular gas (with a slight drop in performance).

I would almost guarantee you that's what it's getting.

The 4.6L is going to be dropped and the 5.0L is probably too much for most people to handle in a car that size.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong and they make an R-Spec coupe.

Hyundai already has the R-Spec trim on the Coupe. But it's not the same specs as the sedan.

It's basically the top-of-the-line Track model minus the "luxury" features such as cruise control, keyless, bluetooth, etc. to save a little bit of weight. Comes with the track-tuned suspension and Brembos, LSD, etc.
