Anyone else notice the Genesis being driven by the guy eventually killed during the season opening episode of 24? Talk about product placement....

saw a genesis in person for the first time yesterday.

the exterior is smaller than it seems in pictures, and i'm not really big on the center console's design.

other than that, it looked like a handsome car in person, and it shocked a lot of my coworkers when they realized it was a hyundai.

On paper it's very even (except price of course) - the drive OTOH and the snob factor, well.....

Just out of curiosity, can you enlightment me which part is even, except the price?

1) Look to see who got better safety rating. Which is safer car?

2) Look to see who has roomier interior. Who can carry around passengers with more comfort?

3) And lastly, the Performance. Which car has 375 HP vs 300 HP.

Tell me which part is pretty much even in the paper. Thanks..

People buy BMWs for performance and the prestige behind the name. The "less powerful" BMW achieves a 0 to 60 time of 5.5 seconds according to Edmunds which is about four tenths faster than the 4.6 V8 while returning better fuel economy. I've driven the V6 powered Genesis and while I loved it and thought it was a very quiet and composed car, it's by no means a driver's car like the 5 series. Compare them all you like, rare are the BMW owners who'll even bother to take a look at it.

I think in general many people love the car on this forum and agree it's tremendous value for the money but your sheer biaised opinion for the thing is excessive.

My honest opinion is that the comparison sucks.

1. Very few of the general public will be cross-shopping between a Genesis and a 5-series.
2. If you're going to put the 5-series up against a V8 Genesis, then bring out the 550i with the V8 and even out the playing field. Not to mention the other features that are bundled up with the V8 option.
3. What was the basis for that comparison? Certainly wasn't price, safety or performance. The only category that seems to be close is the fuel mileage... is that what the selection category was?

I hated that comparison. It served no purpose.

Use the drop down menu to select the 550i. Now that's more like it.

Besides, have you DRIVEN a 550i? Sorry, I love the Genesis and, yes, my loyalty lies with the Company. But I give credit where credit is due. The 550i is a fine piece of machinery. But I suppose that's what the extra 20~30 grand gets you.

If driving dynamics and badge-show aren't your top priority, then Hyundai has a very fine, competitive contender for you. Otherwise, take the Bimmer at an extra cost.

No more, no less.

There is no Hyundai Genesis Sedan vs BMW 5 series 0-60, although I would love to see it LOL!!, But I have found Hyundai Genesis vs BMW 7 series (V-12) and Porche of 0-60.

Keep in mind that BMW 7 series V-12 gets at least 5.4 secs for 0-60.

Now, people is going to say, It cant beat BMW because it cant handle like one!! Well, Here is Hyundai Genesis vs BMW 5 series cornering. Guess who WON??

One could also compare a Yugo with a Bently. The point is there are people who like each for different reasons. The sales will ultimately decide the fate of each.

ok, I'll admit it, I'm starting to like the design. Really just taking off the hyundai emblem completely changes the car for me. To explain, I feel like I'm looking at some modified tiberon with the crooked H on the rear. If I had control over hyundai and really wanted to take the company to a whole new level, I'd change the emblem. It might seem odd, but psychologically it would reinvent hyundai. I still wouldn't buy one, but I could accept seeing them on the road a lot more. Especially if they actually were well built now as they say they are.

^That wasn't obvious? Judging by the responses, maybe not. I love how everyone likes/wants to do the tail swap but they fail to realize it will require custom fab work. Don't get me wrong, I like the sedan tails better than the coupe tails, but it certainly isn't plug-n-play.

That has to be the first time I have ever liked eyelids on a car. Nice job with the two-tone paint job, too.

The Volks are nice, but I'm not a big fan of the rim sticking out past the tire.

wow. keep it down guys.

i personally love this new hyundai. its a big turn for them and i know the sales are going to skyrocket when it comes out. the engine and option choices you get is perfect and seeing that hyundai is taking a step in first to finally come out with turboed, awd, rwd sports coupes again might finally get other manufacturers to bring back some 80/90's sports car again.

kudos to hyundai. i would love to pick one up myself. cant wait to go for a drive on one..

We know it's a chop, but I've already seen pics of a Korean GenCoupe with tails already swapped out. So I'm sure plug-n-play lamps availability will not be a problem, at least not for long. Plus there's enough desire for them on the Genesis Coupe forums that any company searching for modifications to sell will contemplate tail & head lamp replacements I would imagine.

I'd put Hyundai in the same category as Caddy; their most recent (last five years) cars are great, but before that, not so much. And like Caddy, they suffer from an image/stigma problem, however unwarrated it may be. I think both can and will change that perception over time and their resale values won't decrease as rapidly as the do now.
Previous generation Sevilles were pretty good cars. My grandfather had a 93 STS for a long time and it was a very good car....

That grey one with the bronze Volks is sick. Of course we're not going to get the black headlights or the mirror blinkers over here (I dont think)

a simple drop and few face lifts makes this twice better looking. dare I say this looks better than almost all cars in this segment. I never really cared for G37, and i would take this over G37 in a heart beat and save thousands of dollars. This really could be my next car. i can't wait till march.
