Stylewise the Hyundai has a more masculine look. More angular, more of a wedge-shaped rear design. They botched the front a little bit though...messy looking and should have stuck with a more angular theme like the rest of the car. Kind of rounded and doughy looking. The one tuned by HKS looked like a completely different car with the front bumper.

Hyundai's headline figure for the 2.0-liter turbo-equipped Genesis coupe is 30 mpg. While we can't fault Hyundai for trying to hype the two-door's fuel efficiency, for us, there are more important numbers to look at. Primarily power and weight.

The 310 hp, 3.8-liter V6 model equipped with either a six-speed manual or auto 'box tips the scales at 3,402 pounds, and will be available in Grand Touring and Track models. The GT variant includes a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front thrones, navigation system, 360-watt stereo with 10 speakers, Smart Key, push-button start, Xenon HIDs, HomeLink with compass, heated mirrors, a back-up warning system and sunroof. The Track model ditches the rear-end nanny and chrome accents on the front fascia, and instead gets black leather seats, 19-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires (225/40 front, 245/40 rear), 13.4-inch front brakes squeezed by four-piston Brembo calipers and 13.0-inch rear discs clamped by four-piston units. A torsen-type LSD, 22mm rear sway bar, 25mm front sway bar and strut tower brace accompany higher-rate coil springs and shocks to round out the package.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter Genesis Coupe comes in at 3,303 pounds, and is putting out 220 hp on premium fuel, with peak torque (223 lb.-ft.) arriving at 2,000 rpm. Transmission choices depend on which model you choose (six-speed manual or five-speed automatic), and range from the entry-level 2.0T variant to the 2.0T Premium, with the six-speed manual the only option cog-swapping on the 2.0T Track and 2.0T R-Spec.
The standard coupe gets 18-inch wheels hiding 12.6-inch (front) and 12.4-inch (rear) brakes, with single-piston floating calipers. The MacPherson front and five-link rear suspension is complimented by a strut brace, 24mm front and 19mm rear sway bars. The steering rack is 2.7 turns lock-to-lock, and all models come equipped with keyless entry, one-touch up-and-down windows, six-speaker audio with USB/iPod/Aux jack, steering wheel controls, cruise, projector beam lights and Bluetooth integration. The Premium model benefits from a 360-watt stereo and 10-speakers, along with the Smart Key system, push-button start, Homelink, navigation and sunroof.
More importantly, the track model gets 19-inch wheels wrapped in the same rubber as the V6 model, HID headlamps, LSD, 25mm (front) and 22 mm (rear) sway bars, 13.4-inch (front) and 13.0-inch (rear) Brembos, along with stiffer springs and shocks. The R-Spec model gets all the good bits from the Track variant, but doesn't include all the heavy niceties inside.

This focus on weight efficiency pays dividends across the board. The Genesis sedan owes its ability to deliver both strong performance (0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds) and excellent fuel economy (25 mpg EPA highway rating) in great part due to its impressive weight efficiency. Similarly, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T sets a new benchmark for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive gasoline fuel efficiency with a remarkable 30 mpg estimated EPA highway rating, because of its weight-efficient platform and its efficient 2.0-liter, low-pressure, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
"While some turbochargers sacrifice smooth drivability with high operating boost pressures in the 20 psi range, Genesis Coupe uses a refined, low-boost calibration for smoothness and efficiency," said Derek Joyce, Genesis Coupe product manager. The base model will come standard with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder making 223 hp (Korean spec). U.S. models will receive a base engine producing 210 hp at 6000 rpm and 220 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm. In this spec, the Genesis Coupe hits 62 mph in a claimed 8.3 sec. Buyers will also be able to chose the newly revised 3.8L DOHC V-6 Lambda RS (Racing Sport) churning out 310 hp in Korea and 306 hp at 6300 rpm in the U.S. A total of 266 lb-ft of torque is available at 4700 rpm. Hyundai claims the larger engine requires just 6.3 sec to reach 62 mph.

The 350z has 306hp/268tq (about even with the Genesis) weighs 3300lbs (again about even with the Genesis Coupe)

We'll have to wait for pricing now...
One thing for sure, it looks like the RWD coupe market is really heating up. With more and more entries in this category, the competion is really starting to make the offerings better and better. More choices for car buyers is always a good thing...

Besides, I bought my G when US$1 = C$1 ... that's about 20% "discount" to exchange rates are today. Furthermore, Hyundai USA has the same import embargo as Honda USA, so I'd almost be forced to pay the "Canadian" price for it.

The seven custom Genesis Coupes and sedans to be unveiled at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show demonstrate Hyundai's commitment to its rear-wheel drive performance platform. From the Genesis sedan's more luxurious take on performance, to the more overtly athletic nature of the Genesis Coupe, Hyundai has a wide range of performance and capability covered with the Genesis platform. The seven Genesis SEMA cars highlight this wide-ranging capability, from Rhys Millen's 2.0T Genesis Coupe, inspired by the Japanese Super GT series, to the Euro-inspired RKSport Genesis sedan, with its Hyundai-engineered 460-horsepower supercharged 4.6-liter V8 engine concept. Hyundai's custom concepts will be displayed at its SEMA booth (#24387) at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 4-7, 2008.

RHYS MILLEN RACING GENESIS COUPE
Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), one of the industry's most respected tuners, designed the "Art of Speed" Genesis Coupe 2.0T with the visual impact to turn heads at the 2008 SEMA Show and the performance necessary to put the driver in the winner's circle the following weekend.
The RMR Genesis Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine enhanced by a Turbonetics turbocharger, wastegate and blow-off valve to provide extra horsepower and torque. It is equipped with a heavy-duty HKS sequential transmission and a KW coilover suspension to put that additional power to the ground.
The RMR Genesis Coupe sports a silver and blue paint scheme and a RMR dry carbon fiber wide body kit, functional hood scoop and an APR GTC-500 carbon-fiber wing. The Street Concepts Genesis Coupe showcases Volk 19-inch racing wheels, Pirelli performance tires, a modified suspension and Brembo brakes. A Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and K&N cold air intake system enhance the performance of the 3.8-liter V6 engine. Interior modifications include a custom Infinity audio system, Recaro Sportster Topline seats and black suede accents designed to fit the Stealth Fighter theme.

Hyundai is making a serious run at such stalwart luxury marques as Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW with the Genesis sedan. The Korean automaker is already competing directly with those established players using its current range of engines and transmissions, with the 4.6-liter V8 being mated to the same 6-speed ZF automatic tranny that sees duty in various Bimmers and Jaguars. Sometime around 2010, Hyundai will have a new 8-speed automatic ready for public consumption that being developing in-house, and it will surely see the light of day in the Genesis mated up to Hyundai's latest V8 engine. That development will trump Mercedes by one gear and match the number of ratios offered by Lexus. BMW is expected to rely on a new unit from ZF, its longtime supplier, that should also feature eight forward gears. In the never-ending quest for increased performance and fuel efficiency, plus a bit of one-upmanship, expect more automakers to pair their largest powerplants with an ever-increasing number of cogs
