CR-Z is faster, 20% more fuel efficient, more refined, handles better, better standard equipment from integrated fog lights/auto climate/HID/premium sterio/driver side one touch, better interior and above all better design for freeway driving. It is low and sleek. CR-Z give you choice of ECO in city and Sport on freeway.

Editors road testing are not a good indicator of actual real world mileage, so i dont see the 20% you are claiming.
it doesnt handle better, for a car that is 500lbs lighter it should but doesnt.
The car is any thing but practical. 2 doors, no back seat. mediocre at best mpg (especially for something being touted as a hybrid) And you cant claim depreciation values yet, (but im sure you will just like your M3 beating TSX if it had SHAWD)

See original Insight, S2000, NSX, RL, RSX, Integra, TL-S.
Car is 20 to 25% efficient than Fit.
Car is executed far better than Prius for its intended purpose and style. It will age well and is good 20 year investment.

Perhaps but just doing a search of new cars on Autotrader within 500 miles, there are roughly more CRZ for sale than new mini cooper (non-s) hardtops and convertibles combined. ![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Sure my argument is weak by using that as a reference but you get the idea. As a limited run, the CRZ shouldnt be sitting on lots by a large number.

Sema preview: Wraptivo Honda CR-Z Type F
Press release:
Wraptivo™ will produce our very first in house SEMA car in the form of a 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid concept build dubbed "Type-F".The goal for the Wraptivo™ Honda CR-Z Type-F Concept is to evoke the notion of fun, which lies at the core of the CR-Z DNA while also giving a nod to the spirit and Honda heritage of the CR-Z. The Type-F concept will feature a sportier aesthetic over stock with the use of a combination of Honda Accessories Aero pieces and along with other aero components from Japan. The aero package will be complemented with a design package created to give this concept a special uniqueness yet with a familiarity that is still unmistakably Honda. The vehicle will be wrapped with Wraptivo™ Matte Black and Carbon Black Film while small accents will be left in gloss black. The CR-Z will act as a canvas for Wraptivo to showcase its vehicle wrap options and give customizers a preview of how they can take advantage of this technology as a new way to protect their factory paint while also having the ability to easily change the look of their vehicle.
To increase performance we are looking to develop a supercharger system, suspension package, an ECU Tune, exhaust system, and other components with the help of our technology partners: Honda Accessories, Tein , HKS, BF Goodrich, Volk Racing, Hondata, and others to be confirmed at a later time. Interior enhancements will be subtle but functional. Recaro seats, a sport shift knob, and alcantara panels will be implemented to give the driver a sportier experience for fun filled excursions.
The completed Wraptivo™ Honda CR-Z Type-F will closely resemble the concept rendering created for us by automotive digital illustrator Jon Sibal (JonSibal.com) though as the Type-F Concept is still in the early stages of production the final version may differ from the illustration slightly.
The Wraptivo Type-F Concept will make its official debut at the 2010 SEMA Show in the American Honda exhibit while the Wraptivo designer car wraps by Meguiar's product line will also be launched at the same global event. Visit booth 24643 (in center hall) to learn more about Wraptivo and the American Honda booth to see the Wraptivo CR-Z. From there it is our intention to test all of our performance upgrades by entering the CR-Z Type-F in Source Interlink's Super Lap Battle time trial event held the week after SEMA's conclusion.
Updates on the Wraptivo Honda CR-Z Type-F concept will be available on the official Wraptivo™ twitter page (twitter.com/Wraptivo), Facebook page (facebook.com/WraptivoFB), as well as on MotorworldHype.com, the official online media partner for the Wraptivo™ Honda CR-Z Type-F Concept. There will also be a feature article and pictorial in an upcoming issue of Import Tuner magazine.

Just as Honda is shifting its sports car line-up from petrol engine to hybrid cars, SPOON has been struggling to find a way to tune hybrid cars.
SPOON CR-Z is their first tuned hybrid car. Through development, they had found lots of blackboxes in the components related to electric motors, making hybrid car tuning a more difficult task compared to traditional petrol engine cars.
So first they have thought of taking off the electric motor and swap the engine to K20, but the conclusion was to leave the electric motor as it is. It is obvious there will be more hybrid cars coming from Honda in the future, and it was time Spoon needed to face it and find a way to deal with it.
Development is still going on, but in one of the latest HotVersion videos, SPOON CR-Z succeeded to beat stock condition Civic TypeR Euro (FN2) driven by Keiichi Tsuchiya.
Their tuning method was simple - besides the electric motor, they had done everything they always did with petrol engine cars. Take unnecessary things off from car and make it light, tune intake/exhaust parts, and equip with ground-hugging suspension system.

Yes and no right? You know as well as I do that Honda is NOT allowed to make any cars for any other market segments that don't meet AZ approval. If they had started the ad campaign early, AZ would have complained that they were hyping the car too much. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Thats actually quite a big jump from the stock 9.4 (or was it .6? - not that it matters at that point).
Probably, but at least one little teaser commercial for a car that is supposedly a big deal before it is released seems like a good idea. Hell, the Odyssey commercial is badass. Why cant they do that for their "sports" hybrid?

And with its stability control disengaged, the CR-Z gets to 60 mph from a standstill in 8.8 seconds (8.5 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip), and the quarter-mile comes up in 16.5 seconds at 84.1 mph. That's better than the Honda Fit we last tested, which did 9.5 seconds to 60 mph (9.4 seconds with rollout) and 16.9 seconds at 81.1 mph in the quarter-mile.

LOL, I haven't seen this commercial yet either. Damn, I must be watching the wrong channels/shows. One look at the Odyssey's sales numbers and you can see why it takes precedence. Also, don't forget that the new Sienna recently came out. I'm sure that Honda's strategy is the 'freeze' buyers who might be in the market and make them at least wait till the Odyssey hits the road. I wonder if inventory in the current Odyssey is low or near 30 day levels? (another reason to advertise early)

How much less efficient would this car be with a K20 or a R18 in it?
#787
Advanatage of hybrids is in Eco mode city driving. where it will still get 35 to 38mpg. (Green car blog has achieved it). where every thing else falls towards low 20s.
This kind of setup gives you choice of saving fuel. On freeway not much difference. similar 35 to 40mpg.

I have a feeling that with the R18, it would make the car even more efficient.
Here are some EPA numbers:
2010 Fit 5AT: 27/33/30
2010 Fit 5MT: 27/33/29
2010 Civic 5AT: 25/36/29
2010 Civic 5MT: 26/34/29
The Civic is about 200lb heavier than the Fit, yet they return very similar mpg according to the EPA (I'm not sure about real world mileage though). I guess the major reduction of pumping loss in the R18 really helps.

i want them to start tweeking the electric motor, not ringing every ounce of potential out of the 1.5 liter at the cost of mpg. they're saying that spoon crz is getting crap milage. why would i trade my rsx for that? slower And worse/equal gas milage? i want them to tweek the electric motor to make 0-60 surprising. after that it can be a slow gas sipper

We have reported about the possibility of an S2000 successor for many months, and now we’re hearing reports that it may indeed happen, but not in the way we previously imagined. Our sources in Tokyo have told us that Honda is putting a priority on adding a sports car in its lineup; the execs feel that a sports car is a necessity to uphold its brand image. While there have been many debates and arguments within the walls of Honda HQ’s Aoyama-based offices buildings about the details of the car, many believe that the best first step may be to use the CR-Z hybrid car’s platform. Despite its front-drive layout, performance will be increased via a stronger engine and lighter weight. If such a car can be created, it would go up against the likes of the Mazda MX-5. After this car is established, then Honda would move on to create a rear-drive high-powered sports car, probably with a hybrid powerplant. We’ll keep you up to date as news develops.
#796
^^ I wonder, could this be an Acura in North America. Remember that the original S2000 would have been one. Also this rumor isn't 100% new (the hybrid part is). I seem to recall talk of a lower priced FWD convertible on the S2000 forums some years back

Interesting.... I know the chassis and suspension tuning will be good, but what I'm really worried about is the powerplant. I couldn't care less if it's a hybrid or not... just make sure it doesn't have an anemic powerplant.
I don't have faith in them to bring a product that is a Miata beater. And if it has even less power than a Miata, that can only lead to negative comparisons

I like the ad. I certainly would love to have a MT one in my garage just for fun.
And Colin's news of a potential FWD hybrid convertible as a kinda S2000 replacement? I think it could definitely find a market, but not among S2000 owners.
