I agree. I think part of it is because of the color. That one photo of the new RL in black isn't as bad either.

AWD? It's supposed to be coming with the TSX-S. I guess it's still just a rumor but its a STRONG rumor, maybe more then a rumor. They just made the new TSX bigger and heavier and stuck the SAME k24 in the car with LESS HP?!? That can't be their endgame. The new RL has a larger engine. I hear the TL will go larger. It only makes sense the TSX will offer more engine choices in the near future.

value was the main reason. just because you can afford a $40k car doesn't mean you're going to or should buy one.

look at eclipse23. he's been wanting an S5 but is shopping around for and test driving accords, altimas, camrys, etc.

others that i know prefer the TSX's interior in terms of layout and design, feel more comfortable with buying a honda product, didn't want to buy an expensive car because they'd rather save the money for a second car, etc.
Another major reason - reliability.

In the end it's still offensive....just not as offensive as the RL version.
Now that's the vote of confidence in the design Acura was looking for!

Without more power, or some cool new technology, I think Acura is going to have to be very aggressive with their pricing, especially in the Canadian market. The BMW 323i (200 hp/181 lb ft, RWD) goes for $35,900, the MB C230 (201hp, 180 lb ft, also RWD) goes for $35,800. The current TSX lists for $36,200 for the 6MT or $37,500 for the 5AT, and I can only imagine they'll want more money for the new one.

I think they'd have to list it in the $32K range for me to be interested, but my guess is it will be closer to $40K. I wonder if they've also learned how to make the K24 last more than 120,000KM, but that's another story...

This is so horribly underwhelming. All the excitement and value that was the 1st gen TSX is lost with this car.
If I was shopping for an 09 model, I'd take my money elsewhere, even if it means spending 3-5k more on an alternative.

And I just yesterday learned that Lexus has severely slashed pricing on the IS250. Starting MSRP is now 31xxx (old starting MSRP was 36xxx). Or load it all up for 42K.

Tough sell indeed.

Well, at least you don't pay through the nose for your healthcare either so maybe that's enough to offset the weather issue...

Acura has dropped the ball with the latest versions of the TSX and the RL. I'm not sure if I want to see what they do to the TL.

All I have to say, is what the hell happened to this Acura? This was the defining growth of the brand and it appears after 4 years of solid execution they have once again stepped backwards. FWIW this is probably my all time favorite car commercial, ENJOY!!!!!

This isn't even a FMC, more like an MMC. They should still call this the 1st generation TSX. It really does appeal to current TSX owners - it gives them more or less the same car but refreshed. What a joke.

It's definitely a FMC, just not a very exciting one. The tech improvements are very very incremental...nothing at all that really wows. The styling is a wash at best. Its grown larger as well, which is not a selling point for everyone.

I suspect they're hard at work on the new TL, and didn't quite put the effort they should have into the TSX. Maybe they'll offer a Type-S for '10 or '11.

I've heard rumors -- and they're completely unsubstantiated rumors, just from a friend who knows some insiders (And I don't mean car dealers, I mean people who actually work for Acura Corporate) that work at Acura. But from what he tells me, Acura is considering a TSX Type S for the 2010 model (Spring or Fall of '09), and the new TL coming out this fall will basically get the RL's old powertrain, 3.5L V6 with ~300hp and SH-AWD. There will be a follow on "Type S" TL in 2010 or 2011, with a Sub-NSX Acura Coupe with SH-AWD and potentially a turbo V6 scheduled for 2010.

I'd love to believe its true, but I guess only time will tell. Acura would have been way better off releasing both TSX models at the same time, and doing something like BMW with a 325/330 or 328/335. Just come up with a better naming scheme, like the old days of the 2.5TL and the 3.0TL instead of using the "Type S" moniker, which imho doesn't sound very luxurious. How about just TSX, and TSX-S.

Count me as disappointed with the new TSX. The styling is alright, and the interior looks great, but I would have heavily considered the TSX above the 135i if they did a ~250hp Turbo TSX or even a small 3.0L-3.2L V6 for the TSX. Maybe there's still hope for a higher horsepower TSX Coupe *shrug*

I like this new TSX. I'm disappointed in Acura that it may not be any faster, and no LED taillights! But other than that, it's an incredible value if the price doesn't creep too much up north and remain under 30k. The interior is great, kinda excited Acura may just be using real wood in the interior this time around, floating gauges are awesome, appears quality has gone up.

now will this new TSX be better than the similar priced 8th gen Accord sedan?

Depends on people's definition of "better". You'll get more power and larger size in the Accord but a few extra features in the TSX - about the same as previous gen comparos.

I don't need the size of the Accord, but would prefer the performance of the V6, or near it, cause obviously the 4-cylinder will never be quite as powerful.

But other than that, I already like the TSX's look over the Accord. And the little things, like HIDs and the floating gauges, are enough to lure me away from the Accord. I've driven economy cars all my life, I kinda want the additional pampering.

Getting a luxury car is worth the little extra "pampering" imo. Not only in the car but also service as well. Getting a loaner w/o hassle, etc. Trust me...it's worth it.

I don't remember the base price, but the loaded up price sounds about the same.

Maybe they just offered a more watered down version for the base model in 08. I highly doubt they dropped the effective price of the car $5k. That would have made headlines and I don't remember reading any headlines about that.

I believe they dropped the price because of the strong Canadian dollar and what the car costs up here, vs what is costs down in the states. I am looking into everything the car comes with right now to figure out if anything is missing or not.

OK, that makes more sense. I don't believe there's been any price changes in the US. Probably just for our northern friends because of the reasons you mentioned.

Biker's probably right to an extent. Over the last 20 years with the price of oil effectively going DOWN (when factoring in inflation), car manfucturers have used advances in engine technology to simply boost HP while keeping MPG relatively stable. Those days may be nearing an end for the forseable future if oil prices continue to rise faster then inflation. We could go back to the 70's (which I remember well). In a short 5-6 years we went from the era of the muscle car to the dawn of the Honda Civic with little CVCC engines.

I remember my friend got one of those Civics in 76. It was the first little Jap car I ever saw up close. it was the most ridiculous looking thing I saw. We all laughed as we laid a patch pulling away in our Boss Mustangs and Chevelle's. Not laughing anymore.

I have no doubt he's probably right. But the fact remains that no manufacture (other than Honda it seems, and even that is debatable) is dialing back on HP. HP is only increasing. We'll see how long that lasts.
