Here's some photoCHOPS from members over at TOV, its amazing the improvement they have made. I find it hilarious that a few people with photoshop are superior to Acura's design team

the top os the chop, bottom original. Seems everyones trend is to make the fenders end in line with the hood.

 

it's not just the grill. there are so many things that are wrong with this 'flagship' sedan.

 

 

See, that's the thing. You aren't finding much Hyundai bashing lately, at least not from anyone who is informed about cars. The Genesis is even getting some respect on the BMW boards I frequent. And not necessarily because it's a car they would like to own (although some would), but because they recognize that Hyundai is serious and playing to win. Meanwhile, Acura is running in place and getting left far, far behind.

It's sad and frustrating to watch.

 

wow. it's amazine what a little placement will do for that grille. when that part is centered, it's actually a little tolerable.

 

Jesal brought up an interesting point about his dad, a current RL owner not liking the 09.

But whats even worse, show me one, even one person on this board that aspires to own this RL. Isn't this the car that TL and TSX owners should be aspiring to?

 

actually i think some of those chops are a huge improvement... too bad they are only chops...

 

If it does, honda better make a lot more legend grilles... I think the demand for honda grilles (as replacements for acura grilles) will go thru the roof !!

 

this may be too much work for what it's worth, but i think it'd be really funny if someone photochopped things you can do with the RL grille besides making the car itself incredibly ugly.

-plowing snow
-redirecting cattle
-transformers costume for halloween
-glorified coat hanger when turned upside down
-laundry washboard

 

My dad also loves RLs, both the current model as well as the previous one. When I showed him the pics of the 09 he said "Acura messed that car up". Now he's considering the Lexus LS for my mom's next car.

 

+1, and I'm hoping that a grill change alone will save the TSX.

 

Might be true for the TSX but for the RL? The RL is not the kind of car most folks would buy to mod - although in this case anything would be better than that horrible grill.

 

hopefully, they stayed away from the RL designers and were finishing up the new TL.

man, that red color is just terrible. who buys a mid size luxury car in that color. MB/BMW doesn't offer any red color in this segment.

what lousy look wheels and grille. Acura needs some fresh ideas. that 5 point grille is really getting old.

and what terrible look tie Dick has in that TOV video. just shows how terrible the whole team has become...

 

As much as I'd love to blame Acura and Dick Colliver on this I can't but think their hands are tied or at least loosely bound by HQ in Japan.

They have to work with whatever their given by the mother ship. In the case of all Acura sedans, a worked over Accord.

Then again maybe they can be blamed for not providing a good enough business case for getting their own platform.

I don't think that would be the case. I don't know many people that would buy a car so it can sit in the garage while waiting for a new grill from Japan before they can show off their new car. I'm betting sales of about 100 a month on this bad boy.

I really think we should get as many people on here as possible to email ALL of these guys, and tell them exactly how we feel about that new grille. I did. Maybe overwhelmingly negative feedback, coming directly from the consumers, will kill this "new corporate grille" before it infects the TL and TSX too.

Stick a fork in the RL folks, cause ITS DONE.

Instead, head over to Hyundai and get a Genesis and save yourself money. Think about it.
