what do you guys mean? I see the new NSX everyday right now.
I step out of my house and exhale my first breath... and there it is... in all it's vapor glory...

Can't say why I'd pick up one of these over a XPS 13 or the Razer Blade Stealth though, so maybe your analogy is better than I first thought.

They are unconsciously loving the car....you see I think its a neurotic defense mechanism....outwardly they are showing much criticism but deep down they love it cause why else would we keep coming back to this thread on a daily basis?!?!?

That's kind of what tribe and yumcha and I have been saying all along
Anyway, we should just start a thread for bitching about, or loving Acura. The last two pages do not belong here (yup, guilty as charged). I guess there's been nothing new about the NSX, so everyone resorts to the original topic of hating Acura
By the way, isn't it supposed to be launched like next week, finally? Or has it been delayed again, so that Acura can make it even better for the 26th time?

[sigh] I'm plenty relaxed. My response wasn't only to the posts I quoted; it's the body of work. This discussion nearly always takes this same turn. People criticize Acura. Apologists resort to criticizing other brands in order to legitimize Acura's decisions, etc. Nonetheless, your final conclusion is basically in line with mine. You just took numerous posts "lol'ing" and high-fiving with skd about BMW's fall from the top of the pack to get there.

According to NSXPrime, and I think even Acura itself, the online configurator is supposed to be launched in February, along with actually being able to finally order the car. I'll believe it when I see it.

Some juicy stuff in the news lately.
Honda lawyers are apparently trying to take down comments and get info on a person who claims to work at Honda's R&D dept and made several comments about Acura and the NSX. Calls him/herself "HondAnonymous" on Jalopnik.
Replying to a comment on how NSX has been delayed and delayed....
In response to a thread about a photo of a 2017 Civic Type-R motor:
The commentor in question: https://kinja.com/hondanonymous
Here's the jalopnik story about it: Honda's Lawyers Want Us To Dox One Of Our Readers; We Said Hell No
Apparently Honda lawyers claiming the above poster violated a NDA.....interesting. Of course no way to know if the info posted above are actually true/accurate....

Believe me, I’m in the same boat with you here. But, it is actually finished now. We just completed “Track Mode” heat resistance/durability testing 2 weeks ago, which is the first time any Honda product had a Track Mode test.
So, not only did we have to design a new test mode for insane heat generation (drove the car balls out in at Sebring in hot weather, immediately stopping the vehicle and turning it off to allow intense heat soak, etc.), we then had to get all the temps on the individual components to meet our own requirements. (Fun trivia: someone’s phone melted in the trunk, which set us back a bit. No one wants their frozen food well done by the time they get home from the grocery store.)
Also, every car review calling out the Continental tires is spot on. They are garbage. I, and anyone else at Honda, is mad they’re even an option. But when you see how many new Hondas have Continentals as OE, you know there’s some fishiness going on.
But it is very fast off the line, the engine sounds like the apocalypse (thanks Cosworth), and by God, in person, it is gorgeous. The updated Red paint and the Blue are gorgeous choices for that car. (Not the deep red from concept photos, it’s got a bit of orange in it now and it is fantastic.)

And no, production will start in spring and I think I’ve been hearing early 2017 delivery.
The parts suppliers aren’t set up right to do such a small volume (by comparison to, say, a civic) so basically we’re waiting on them. And then, when we make small changes (such as NACA ducts all over the rear underbody because of the immense heat from the turbos), they have to redo all the tooling. (No, I don’t fully understand how asking for less of an item takes longer. I just work on them and fix them)

I went to Honda’s own training program and am currently a technician at their research and development facility.
It’s not all NSXs, there’s civics and odysseys too, but it’s an off week if I’m not doing something to an NSX, whether I’m just changing tires or swapping turbos.
PLENTY of engineers on the design floor though. But the good ones actually get their hands dirty.

In response to a thread about a photo of a 2017 Civic Type-R motor:
Depending on the accuracy of the photo, looks like there will be an immense oil leak at the valve cover and timing chain case...
But honestly, all of the new turbo engines by Honda, from the base Civic to the NSX to the next RDX, have an “issue” with the studs on the cat either backing out of the head or snapping altogether. Even cars just broken in with 500 miles on the clock.
But it’s a Honda. It’ll survive nuclear blasts with all the cockroaches.

I see why Honda tried what they did, but unless they can prove Jalopnik is employing one of their workers and they know who it is, Honda has no recourse against Jalopnik.

The original NSX got its fine-tuning from Senna. For this new one, I really hope Acura doesn't give the auto journalists the same weight.

I think the looks is not the debate here. It's Acura being still cagey about the specs of the car...and those specs had to be through initial test drives by journalists (WTF?)...
The other source of discussion is the pricepoint. While it certainly places the car in the elite market, it enters a fray that is owned by some kingpins like McLaren and Porsche. Is Honda/Acura doing their homework and confident enough to think their price will attract the buyers they need...? Sure, this car was never meant to sell in high volumes...but, if at that price and I could only buy ONE, would I give Honda my money to buy the NSX over a McLaren...?
Something to ponder. That's all.

- It's definitely a very nice looking car. Has presence and I think it looks better in person than in the pictures.
- It's smaller than I thought. Not sure what I was expecting, but it just seemed a little small to me.
- The interior looks nice, but not "special" if that makes sense. IMO, the i8 has the same problem, for example (it looks like they just jammed a 5-series interior in there).
- The carbon bits on the one on the pedestal were well done. Not over the top at all.
- The paint quality looked very nice.
- The directional wheels looked terrible. They looked like they belonged on an Accord. The optional wheels (on the one on the floor) looked much better.
- The front bumper area that is part of the "shield" shape (the big black part) has fake mesh. I hate it. Everywhere I see fake mesh on vehicle bumpers (no matter the brand), I hate it. On a $150k+ super car, it's just totally unacceptable.
- Overall, it looks very nice and it gets a lot of attention. But, it doesn't feel as "special" as other super cars I've seen. I can't quite put a finger on it. Is it because it seems a little cookie-cutter-ish (i.e. not bespoke enough)? Maybe. From what I've read, the performance is impressive, but a little bit isolated and detached (as far as the driver's experience). Is it an impressive car from a company that desperately needs an impressive car? Yes. Personally, it just doesn't stir my soul the way the original NSX did.

The new NSX is different than the original and somewhere a kid without preconceived notions of what an Acura is, is putting up a poster of the new NSX.

I concur with almost everything you said, especially hating the fake mesh comment. But when you say it doesn't stir your soul like the original, I think most men of a certain age say such things about stuff they saw with wondrous eyes in youth (and some might say rose covered glasses). I loved the original NSX (still do), but fact is times change and technology improves.

I realize that may be true. But, there are still cars coming out that take me back to those same feelings I had for the first NSX (btw, I was 19 when the first one came out...not 8). The 458 and 488 GTB are soul stirring to me. The M6 GC, the Aston Martin DBS, Vanquish and Vantage are as well. The LaFerrari, 918, P1 and Hyuara are on a whole different level, of course, but they make me long for massive amounts of lottery winnings. I don't look at the new NSX and wish I had the money to buy it...the others I listed, absolutely.
