FWIW, I stopped by the local Acura dealer to look at the TLX. Asked the sales associate about an expected delivery date for the Type S. "March" was as specific as he could get but it felt like a canned response.

seems canned for sure. March 20 is first official day of spring I believe so it’s possible. Earlier people were saying February and there is zero chance for that as it’s not even in production yet. The fact they haven’t made a peep since basically august/September makes me think they are second guessing or won’t hit the sprint window.

a good rule of thumb is that any information on future models from dealers and sales associates are mostly unreliable.

So, did history repeat and you purchased a TLX?

You don’t need the dealer or sales rep to know. Just follow the trend

Now the 2022 MDX is out, give it about 3 weeks and then we will start seeing TLX TYPE S news. We all know it will be March but don’t expect anything before 3rd week of feb. This time is reserved for the new MDX to get attention. Once type s is date is confirmed and the car is out, we will hear about the new ILX replacement followed by MDX Type S late summer 2021. This is Acura 2019-2022 plan.

That was my take

In my younger more naive days I used to believe that "Car Dealers" were these very official and knowledgeable channels of wisdom on car brands that is slapped on the front of their building. Because look at their immaculate office-like show rooms and guys dressed in suit jackets and ties.

Then I learned about the car dealership business model (essentially like a cartel/mafia....passed down in the family through generations, lobbying state legislature to keep their business viable via actual laws making other car businesses illegal, and the tens of thousands of stories of scumbag behavior of dealerships) AND that you only need a high school diploma to be a car sales "professional." (And they probably wouldn't care for a HS diploma either if you can sell a ton of cars every month). And of course the woefully laughable level of knowledge that most dealer staff have about cars themselves from a technical standpoint and from an industry stand point.

So yes....dealers are probably some of the last places you can get reliable info from.

Well probably some unfortunate news. Just watched a dyno vid of the A spec on YouTube. It was consistently about 40 less on HP and torque stock from manufacturer specs. Dyno was saying about 238-240 HP and high 240 for torque. If that holds true the type S will barely crack 300 for HP and torque.

people were hoping Acura was undervaluing their specs, in reality looks to be they are overstating.

That’s to be expected; wheel horsepower is typically around 18% less than horsepower at the crank for AWD cars. 240 at the wheels is more like 290 at the crank, so if anything Acura is actually underrating a little bit.

Edit: Upon closer inspection, this was a FWD TLX, so assuming around 12% drivetrain losses, that actually comes out to 272hp at the crank on the dot, which is exactly what Acura claims.

To add a critical note, it was a FWD TLX. Account for a AWD TLX baseline numbers to be less. How much less? Not exactly sure but wouldn't be surprised if its a tad higher than the baseline RDX numbers which should break into the very low 200's whp / wtq.

and just to add to that, you can't compare dyno results from 2 different machines, the cars need to be tested on the same device to make any valid comparison.

Lol, not yet. Like many others, I have to at least kick the tires on the Type S before committing. So anxiously I wait.

Hot Rod Dyno test of dynos

You should read this Hot Rod magazine Dyno test of Dynos. They tested all the major brands of dynos with the same Shelby Mustang. Long read but at the end of the day shows how those10WHP gain air filter number claims could really be interesting. Also personal experience with the DynoJet end of run power peak that they talk about. Have experience with DynoJet & Mustang brand dynos & the article is dead on.

Yellow box is the overrun peak & the red arrow is actual. These are old tests from about 2011/2012. You should note DynoJet is the most common unit used in advertising speed products & magazine horsepower tests.
Upper right SAE Smoothing VS Standard STD Smoothing 5 can change the number higher with STD
