"The multimedia control system is a pain to use versus the touchscreens you’ll find elsewhere"
This may be the case when you sit in the car for the first time - but after a few days it's stupid simple to use and you learn where to go with your hand without looking down. But - point well taken - why does Acura insist on being different in areas where the payoff is small?

It really doesn't even take days. When I went to drive the new Type-S for the first time I spent some time playing with the system with the car on the showroom floor before I actually did the test drive. Even with a relatively short exposure prior to the drive I found the touchpad intuitive to use. Actually one of the things i liked about the car.
(shudder) think of the weight after they add batteries.
no sports hybrid is light weight. Just look at the Tesla plaid models… they all weight around 5k. However the electric motors can produce a lot of power.
They said they're both 6'3" which made one of their 5'6" mama too cramped in the back. So for the average American male (5'9" to 5'10"), it's just fine.
I'm fortunate as I'm 5'10" and all my friends and family are shorter than me lol. The rear room is fine for me when the front is set to my position.
. AoA has become my fav YouTube reviewer, perhaps because we're both engineers but he does alot of subjective and objective analysis of practical as well as how much fun it is to drive.
Some of the Edmunds reviewers are also very good.
FYI his review wasn't 100% positive and he said he would pick G70 over this. I still wrote good review as he pointed all the positives and negatives. Unlike some people here just looking to find negatives...let's not go far and we know who those people are. Thank god! we have less of them here. Happy Friday!
I can picture the anti-TLX pharisees and saducees rending their robes at this 'Saul-to-Damascus' moment. Seems like the TLX Type S won them over.
This is the 2nd time my public school education and lack of religion knowledge has shown that I have to Google a few words and phrases in your posting since I don't know the meetings. (had to use the Jesus LOL)
The anti-TLX toxic crowd amuse me in that anything positive despite some negatives in a 2G TLX review are obviously biased pro-Honda/Acura reviewers

It helps when AoA/reviewers cap the price to match the car. Capping it at 55k magically makes it appear as top grade during comparison. There's no way it deserves perfect As, especially not for fuel economy. M340i and C43 AMG must be included too in comparison, targeted performance group. The cars he included all span well over 55k (S4, G70, S60 PHEV, IS500) and some don't even match on engine specs.

I totally disagree. Acura's "absolute positioning" is a ass-backwards shit show. They refuse to change it because then they'd have to admit it was not a good idea. They went against every industry standard. The worst part is if you use Car Play or Android Auto - it is an actual mouse-pad. So you constantly have to re-learn and re-program muscle memory. It's based on Android 5.1 - SIX versions behind. If you go to Dev Options under Build, you can see mouse pointer moving like an actual mouse. You learn from 5 years old that touch-pad is to used with a cursor, after few years it's baked in and after 25 years it's muscle memory. Every single person who gets in an Acura touches the pad like it's a mouse. Every. Single. Person. They want to change something that every person is used to using a different way. Going back and forth is a headache. Use laptop in office one way, use car another way, back and forth. All the time. It just doesn't work.
Could just be basic economics. Some brands have elected to use multi-interfaces but it costs more which gets passed on to the consumer.
Multi-interface includes touch screen, voice, rotary dial, hand writing (top of rotary dial is a pad), real buttons all standard equipment would make life easier if available on all cars. Don't have gesture control, optional while standard on more expensive models, that is an overlay included with all the other input methods.
Personally if a car had a single input method would select buttons first & the rotary dial second.

But it's already there, if you go into options, it will act as a traditional mouse pad. And basic economics is fine for Nissan Versa that costs $14K, not $60K+ luxury brand that's trying to reinvigorate itself.

Thing that struct me as odd when he introduce the the statement that Acura told him the Type-S was never meant to be a Full On M3 or full on AMG at 0.45 in the vid. Question is why did he have to ask the Acura people why it did not perform like a M/AMG? Where did he, who is close to the industry, ever get the idea Acura was building cheap M/AMG cars?
Is it meant to be a partial M or AMG? Maybe a partial M340 or C43? To blow up the price spread he uses the M440xi base $58,700 Coupe instead of the M340xi base $56,700 4 door adding a quick $2,000 to his advantage. That the German performance cars cost more than the TLX-S is not big news or a shocker to anyone so why pad the numbers?
Its just the little things he slips in that put thoughts it peoples minds who are not going to remember more that a few points from the vid.6,700

I think he mentions it because a lot of people unfamiliar with Acuras think that Type S is meant to compete with the M/AMG/RS cars.

Goes back to why would a lot of people think that? It has no history of ever competing with an M/AMG/RS. Car people should know better. Among non car people a more common comment was "what's an Acura?". Acura seems to be better known today, wall to wall advertising, but Acura looked to let fans carry the its gonna be a M killer water. There have been enough posts here especially when "DOHC-V6 Turbo" that it might be something special, but nothing but silence from Acura. I am sure they did not mind the illusion so they never bother to rein it in with a reality check till 355BHP.
Last Type-S competed heads up with the 335, MB, Audi, Infiniti-G & similar range cars not the high end performers. Was not generally as quick etc but was close enough & less expensive enough to be a viable choice if you were looking in that performance bracket. The TL lines sold very well.

Here's the confusion:
Car people would never associate the Type S w/AMG and or M (completely different zip codes).
Non-car people won't even know what the hell an AMG or M is.
There really was no point to Alex questioning Acura in the video. Perhaps we should start questioning his non-engineering credentials...
Easiest way to be rated a good reviewer here & get a thumbs up is to give an Acura a good review.
yes, how strange that a person on a fourm dedicated to the TLX would enjoy a positive review about the car that this subforum is dedicated to. He should get a life and stop posting positive things about the car, does he not know thats not what this forum is for???? He needs to take that positive attitude elsewhere.

You'd be surprised at how many "car people" know just enough to know what AMG or M but not enough to know what is what. Take a look at the Facebook groups for various cars and it becomes all too evident. I've seen some really stupid shit, such as "Jdm means Japanese domestic motors I'm not stupid when I say jdm though I don't think of Mazda I just think of hondas, toyota, acura, and Nissan", or "you can tell if a car is really fast if it makes more torque than horsepower"
I wouldn't exactly call Facebook a fountain of knowledge. It's demographic should fairly resemble that of the US itself (i.e. casual fans and some enthusiasts with a smattering of knowledge).

Bear, I really don’t understand why you continue to belabor what you feel the S is not. You’re preaching to the choir. We all understand that there are better cars; however it does not seem to have diluted many folks desire to purchase the vehicle. Believe it or not there is a market for a vehicle that delivers on the fun quotient at $55,000 while not being at the top of the $53,000 to $65,000 sport sedan segment. Why not just accept that and enjoy the pleasure of your recent purchase.

Lighten up Francis, I did not criticize the TLX-Type-S for being what it is. I am pretty familiar with its good and less than good points from this site. Its a nice car & agree it does not nor is it intended to compete with $90,000 cars.
I criticized the supposedly top notch engineering reviewer, not the car. Seem he was confused as to what the car was supposed to be. I might have a difference of opinion with him & you on the car being a competitor to the C43AMG,M340 or S4. Its does compete with cars like the G70 in price.
AoA clearly said.
"when I first heard about the TLX Type S I admit to being a tiny bit disappointed and I ended up talking to a few people Acura that the Type-S has never been a full on M or a full on AMG so the Type-S is not designed to compete with the BMW M or C63AMG which it is why its considerably less expensive."
Then he goes on talking about how its $10,000 less than a M440 2 door coupe, why a coupe & not a M340 4 door sedan which is $2000 less than the coupe & so on. So inconclusion this ace reviewer that all here love because of good Acura reviews goes off the rails in the first 45 seconds of a 31 minute vid why waste time on the remaining 30:15 hoping he might get better.
