I didn't lease one but I'm in an Audi S5 (er Hyundai Optima ) as there was really nothing in Acura (aside from the NSX which I can't afford) that interested me.
Love you too, bro.
I don't really care too much for any of the newer cars.
Not that they don't have redeeming qualities...but their focus is getting away from why I fell in love with cars in the first place.
And for the staunch Acura supporters please try not to see this as someone bashing the brand. The sooner Acura realizes that superior hardware is pretty much the only way to compensate for the absence of those intangibles that Fiatlux is talking about the sooner it can regain the faith of the long-term clientele.
Edit: I’m sure many people here remember when the Nissan GTR (R35) finally made its debut here in North America. Their whole strategy was “here’s a better performance car for less money”. I mean...it worked, didn’t it? They brought a bazooka to a gunfight and the rest is history.
I never want Acura to be BMW, because the sad fact is I know it will never be under Honda's umbrella. I just want it to be Honda++, which the beak-generation Acuras (maybe save for the highly-underated 4G TL) never were. At least the current-gen cars feel to me like BMW- instead of Honda+. 2G TLX may be more expensive, but when the 1G drives like a camry, I would say you get what you pay for. You must have a good chassis to play the sports sedan game. Good chassis is more useful than 0-60. That is why I think the price difference is an illusion because 1G is far and away from a sports sedan.
EDIT: Back in 2004, TSX is 10% off from 325i msrp. 2G TLX is also 10% off from 330i msrp. So honestly I don't see any price difference during the last Acura glory days and now.
The reality is that the small handful of people who regularly post here, whether enthusiast fan boys, or Acura fan boys, or the odd poor son of a bitch that wanders onto the forum looking for a little fun and information, will have zip to do with whether this car is successful or not. It will depend upon mainstream car buyers who:
- want affordable luxury
- want decent acceleration without giving a rat's ass about pole times that are .4-5 of a second apart
- want a card that is smooth, handles well and is enjoyable to drive
- worry little about whether people think its a sports sedan or a sporty sedan or whatever
- want a car that's good looking and comfortable inside
- has excellent safety features
- a good dealer experience
- a reasonable price
Sorry to interrupt the above discussion.....the enthusiast fanboys can return to being impressed with themselves and their opinions and their mission to have Acura produce their perfect vehicle that equals or bests the Germans for significantly less money. The poor Acura fanboys can continue on with the struggle, being slowly engulfed by the Germans natural tendency to cross borders, and the stragglers from the TL and TSX and other bygone era vehicles who live by the Make Acura Great Again! Hmmm....that slogan sounds familiar....some other highly intelligent movement.....
I'm off to sell my 2.4, that has an unthinkable 0-60 time of 7.2 or some other number....I'm so ashamed. ....
Moving forward - all comments relating to other cars in the TLX segment should be directed to the "2021 Acura TLX vs The Competion" thread - this thread should be for discussion around reviews of the TLX.

Someone responded to one of my comments on the acura commercial video on youtube and he said he worked on the commercial for 2 weeks at 3 different locations and i asked him does the type S sound like it does in the commercial and he said ''Yessir'!
In person view of a Modern Steel Metallic? with expresso interior. The TLX is beautiful. Not able to test drive as the new owner was taking delivery. Sticker for the Advance $49k+. Great step up for Acura!

Did he also mention if it could barely pull on an 1800's-era steam-powered locomotive? Seems Acura is toning down its marketing and being more realistic with their performance benchmarks.
=P
It sounds good, but so do just about any of the other offerings in the segment. Listen to the M340i, C43 and Q50RS ... all sound just as good, if not better. S4 sounds like poop. And it won't be that loud ... clearly mic clips taken from right at the exhaust tips edited in.
I think that's incorrect. The way I read it C&D's methodology, fiatlux is right, C&D is now "excluding" rollout, so the times will be shorter. The new Spec table even says "Standing-start accel times omit 1-ft rollout of 0.3 sec."
They now subtract the rollout time. Which they didn't before. So you'd add the 0.3s to 2021 TLX to compare with older tests.
All of our standing-start acceleration times also include rollout, a short period of time (typically about 0.3 second) that we subtract from the acceleration figures. It's a phenomenon that stems from the physics of the timing lights at a drag strip, where a car can be rolling for 12 inches or more before the clock starts. We recently changed our procedure to now use the industry standard 1-foot rollout.
Note - they USED to subtract 0.3s from the acceleration to simulate the 1-foot rollout. Now, They just ACTUALLY do the standard 1-foor rollout, so they don't need to subtract anymore.

My biz partner brought his AMG GT in for service and got a A250 4matic as a loaner. It's got a 7-DCT. That car has major lag when you step on the gas from a roll in any drive mode (2-3 seconds). And wow that shift from 1st to 2nd was super harsh - totally unexpected. I thought it was just a one off. So I tried WOT again from a stop. Bam, it did that harsh shift again - only from 1st to 2nd gear. Probably why car companies are switching back to auto these days.
But ya, the lag, I don't know, it's even worse than the lag in my 3g rdx.

haha i made a joke to my wife the other day. I was like well atleast we know it's faster than a steam train!

Don't burst the bubbles! TLX is slow no matter what, even if it is not that slow, the engine has terrible mpg. The hesitation is life or death because, well, 1G TLX is so much better in this regard. Does not matter if VW/Audi/Benz 2.0T all have some sort of lag as well, because guess what, BMW can do it why can't Acura do the same? Acura is cheaper but it has to do everything better, otherwise I will spend the money elsewhere!
You have to look closely, but the body kit that I’m assuming comes standard on the Type S is not the same as the one that you can order and have installed on the non-Type S.
So I’m wondering (again) why Acura wouldn’t just install this body kit on the A-spec to help differentiate it from the Advance/Platinum Elite/Tech models.

The Type S only gets a small front lip on the bottom and rear diffuser, no?

Yes, I believe you’re right. The front splitter on the Type S does not appear to be the same as the one from the body kit. They both look good to my eyes, but it seems like it would have made sense for the A-spec to have the body kit pre-installed since it’s mainly an appearance package? Anyway, I’ve kind of given up trying to understand why Acura does things the way they do.
Update: He released a video on the Camry hybrid instead and says he will release a comparison video between the Camry and "another car" on October 20th...
Some context: He (Redline Reviews) put a picture up on Instagram of the TLX and Camry Hybrid, comparing the two.
Seems a comparo with the ES would have been more suitable. Which one does their segment better. Acura gearing towards "performance" ... or Lexus towards luxury and refinement. Completely different cars, but a question of "who did it better" for what they were looking to achieve. I'd assume Lexus would win hands down in that comparo though. As said, it's kind of embarrassing being compared to a Camry of all things.

I mean, we've been comparing it to the Accord as well .
These are similar numbers to the 1G TLX. How did the modern Lexus ES 350 V6 perform in the same test?
Worse, which shouldn't be a surprise considering it weights a couple hundred pounds more and has the exact same powertrain
Zero to 60 mph: 6.1 sec Zero to 100 mph: 14.9 sec Zero to 130 mph: 27.1 sec Rolling start, 5–60 mph: 6.3 sec Top gear, 30–50 mph: 3.3 sec Top gear, 50–70 mph: 4.8 sec Standing Ľ-mile: 14.7 sec @ 99 mph Top speed (governor limited): 135 mph Braking, 70–0 mph: 191 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.80 g
This reviewer gets a 🌟 for giving props to the RSX Type S-style gauges in the A-spec. I'd take that red-on-silver over digital gauges any day... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqloKZn2aGI
I have those same red on silver dials on my RDX A-spec. They’re mostly illegible in almost any lighting condition. The best thing about the new TLX gauges is actually the digital speedometer in the middle. Strange but true.
Thats a good review. Basically he said i came in expecting it not to be good, but he kept driving and got a feel for it and he had to speak through his emotional feel. He went from a snarl to a smile 😃 lol.

I think he had the same driving impression as Alex on Autos when driving through the twisties - he seemed to be having fun "driving" it - not just mashing the pedal from a full stop. I suspect that's going to be the reason people buy it.
