2021/2022 TLX versus the Competition

The de-contenting of the Integra, especially Homelink - to me - is an utterly baffling decision on Acura's part. A weird decision amongst many they make. Type S Integra doesn't have it, nor does any Integra trim offer cooled seats. If ye be a luxury brand, ye shall include all luxury features, yea verily, lest ye be considered half baked! I don't think there is any Lexus that comes without Homelink as standard. They keep wanting to play with the big boys then something relatively basic like Homelink needs to be included.
On the bright side, the infotainment system for the Integra is far better than for the other Acura products because the car is so heavily based on the Civic, so you win some and you lose some I suppose.
As for luxury, at this point I think it's a foregone conclusion that Acura is not a luxury brand. It is is a premium brand in the same vein as Buick. Some of the cars punch up towards luxury (like higher trim MDXs) but for the most part they're a half step below actual luxury brands.

The reason is that the Integra is so heavily based on the Civic. Extra ducting for cooled seats and rear vents just wasn't within budget I guess. Same reason for why the road noise is so bad, but why the practicality is so good.

Very true regarding the "luxury" label. Something I always forget, actually. I just don't really think of Acura competing with Buick, I think of them competing with Lexus and Infiniti - at least on the Japanese side of the coin. As for GM, personally I would sooner consider Cadillac as an Acura competitor over Buick. All opinion; not fact! I cross shopped Lexus ES (F Sport) v TLX A-Spec. To me they give off a similar vibe; and I think the TLX holds its own as a viable competitor to the ES. Just because it is somewhat cheaper, to me, doesn't make it less luxury. But I would say that if Acura wants to run even with the Premium label, they need to quit strange de-contenting decisions. Withholding a heads up display as available content on any Intengra trim vs. withholding Homelink would have made far better sense to me.

The Accord apparently doesn't have Homelink anymore, are they kidding? Every trim level above the lowest should have Homelink, and any "top of the line model", Accord, should have Homelink. I would love to know how much it costs to the manufacturer to add Homelink to a vehicle, would have a hard time if it was more than $500. As for the Integra, this is "What were they thinking?" territory.

Some of the omission may be due to the ongoing chip shortage and it's the reason why various models have lost the blind spot monitoring (which is unacceptable to me because this is a critical safety feature for many).

So this begs the question… what Lexus ES model would be comparable/compete with the TLX Type-S? There is no ES 500 F Sport or any ES model trim that has as much power and poise as the TLX-S trim imo

I went to visit our MB dealer yesterday.
C300 ~$73K plus taxes.
C43 ~ $96K plus taxes.
So technically over $110K for C43 😂😂😂
These amounts are in CAD. I was shocked. C300 almost $10K more than TLX TYPE S??? Plus, after 3-4 years, I won’t even call it C43, it will turn to “Repair Box”.

The Type S and a loaded C300 4MATIC go for about the same here in the States.

C300 isn’t special tbh, it’s ordinary and for the same price TLX TYPE S is a better choice. I haven’t tested C43 so I can’t comment but will I pay $110K for it? I highly doubt! But it’s always good to drive, compare and see what’s out there.

I found the same thing in 2001 when i bought my type S. C43 and 340i, S5 were not comparibles in canada. $15,000+, is a huge difference. Even the CLA 43 was over 70,000 at the time and the type S was 59,500. The real competitors price wise were c300, 330i, G70, and stretching in to an S4. If they charged an extra 10,000 for the type S they could have given it the >400hp that everyone for some reason expected it to have but they priced it very well for what it got instead. Im glad they did, i would not have been interested if it was that much more.
looking at the builder for the C43 in Canada is alarming. It STARTS AT $81,500 and that comes with nothing. To get bigger then 18” wheels you Must add a $4600 AmG pack that adds a proper steering wheel like the type S and a speed limiter increase. To get 20” wheels its another additional $1100-1700. To have the trim blacked out is $1800, to add some body pieces to make it look different then a c300 its an additional $2200. Real leather $2100, heated and vented front seats $525, premium sound system $1200, wireless charging $260, LED headlamps $1600 which can only be added if you also add heads up display for $1900 for some reason, safety suite to match acuras $2700. To have all the options the type S has standard, the C43 comes to $100,025. $35,737 more then the type S. how are these considered competitors??! For $6000 more you could have a TLX type S AND an integra.
the Canadian price for the type S just doesnt seem to add up the the US price for some reason. Current price for the type S in Canada translates to $47,257 US but to buy in the US is $55,750.

It's outrageous these prices. C'mon! $110K for C43???
Now it makes me laugh when people say TLX TYPE S or MDX TYPE is are expositive. It gives me more reasons to buy the TLX TYPE S
Just so you know, MDX TYPE S Advance will cost you $100K vs a C43 $110K in Canada! if this is not a joke, then tell me what's it?
Anyway, thought to share with folks here these insane numbers lol!

I’m just now realizing that Acura exports the Canadian spec of the TLX to Kuwait. It makes no sense why they decided to skimp on the US spec cars.

Not 💯 TLX related but this video just showed up on my YouTube feed and it’s the best video I have seen in recent times. Now this videos explains MB C43 CAD$110K 😂

Definitely not at these interest rates. But they will never discount them in Canada for local buyers. Probably dump them in US or some auctions.

Tesla just slashed prices on their Model S and X models. The Model S Plaid is now under $100k. Ugh ... really tempted to splurge.

If there’s another price drop before the end of the year, I probably won’t be able to resist any longer.

$75k CAD is about $55k USD for a C300 so that sounds about right. I don't see anything wrong w/the Benz pricing as it appears to be consistent globally. It's the relative affordability of the Acuras in Canada that is surprising.
Folks up north can get a TLX Type S for about the same as the MSRP of an A-Spec here in the States!

The problem continues to be lack of standalone Genesis dealerships. Many of the Hyundai/KIA dealerships tend to be in lower-income neighborhoods so who wants to to be rolling through the 'hood in their super-nice G70?

When I was shopping, full boat G70 3.3T was about a grand less than the Type S in the US, now in 2023 it is about 4 grand more. Still a bargain vs M340 and S4, but why are the prices so much higher given things like ELIN's "The problem continues to be lack of standalone Genesis dealerships. Besides hasn't it been posted here that the G70 is going away.

Poor sales of the G70 should also be attributed to the dying sedan group as a whole. I'd be willing to bet there are probably more "hoods" in the US vs Canada and perhaps part of the reason why there's a pretty decent MSRP divide.

These are some weird comments. I've never seen a car dealership in "The Hood" Unless it's one of those independent used car scam lots. You can only open a car dealership in a commercial zoned area of a city which is why they are in clusters no matter the brand.

Any car dealerships in Oakland, Richmond, etc?

I don't know why people are dancing on the future grave of the G70. US sales figures of the TLX aren't good. They actually fell below G70 numbers in August ... and now there's no "parts shortage" excuse to fall back on. If the G70 is headed to the grave, the TLX is not far behind.

I wasn’t wrong. Watch this until the end. I don’t care much about the 0-60 part, but when Sam explains the pricing. I never agreed this much with him! 💯 agreed and MB will struggle to sell this C class.

Now to be fair, you take TLX or G70, unfortunately sedans are not doing well. People are going towards suvs. Last but not least, when you see the sales numbers of Teggy. It just gives you that wow factor! A car that isn’t cheap, very close to Civic and yet it’s killing it compared to the competition.
