I really wish TLX Type- S sells well or atleast enough so that there is enough of them in the used cars market post the lease periods, I would love to pick it up in the used car market 2-3 years down the lane, when its a better bang for buck

I suppose we'll see what the market looks like in a few years! I hope Acura doesn't intentionally limit how much of the Type S they build too much though (barring any influence due to the supply chain issues now though). That might make them hard to find used at a "bargain" price. There may be enough people hoping to get a deal on a used one though that they may be hard to come by too. I'd otherwise be interested in picking up a Type S for sure.
At that point it'll be interesting to see how the car will have aged after being driven for a few years (assuming not gently all the time either) since there's so much that's new about it too. I assume it should still be in good shape, being only a few years old by then. Could be a good performance used car "bargain" but again, we'll see. Used car market definitely opens up things to a larger audience but also more competition/options for buyers since the pricing of used vehicles is lower (assuming the market isn't somehow even more insane in a few years).

The more recent Civic Type R, the latest NSX, and the existence of this new turbocharged V6 all have me feeling optimistic that Honda/Acura are maybe starting to push themselves more though. Considering where Acura was ~5 years ago, I think the progress has been good, but as I've mentioned before: I think more and bigger steps need to be taken to increase that momentum and keep it going.
I personally think the Type S offers all the performance I'd want or need for public roads, so I hope it proves to be a longer term reliable vehicle and that I'll be able to pick one up. The loaner MDX my dealership gave me while my TLX was being serviced though admittedly has me considering an SUV again though, hah.

I was just wondering if Acura has the worst luck in automotive history LOL
Acura TL Type S came in 2000 right when the Y2K Bubble happened making cars and fuel out of reach for most
Acura Launched TLX & MDX Type S and war breaks out making fuel expensive

Congrats on the new ride! Interested to know: What were some of the key factors in making your decision? Any concerns with either vehicle? How did the costs compare (no need for specific, but interested in general/high level)? Did you look at anything else too?

My reasons why I didnt choose the others.
m340i/x3 m40i - These are obviously the fastest in the group, but as i've never owned a BMW in my life only friends I was unsure. I had read a bunch of stuff about how the B58 is really an amazing engine, but I just wasn't sure I wanted to go down that path with the Brand.
G70/GV70 - The massive infotainment screen is super nice, but at the end of the day it's still a Hyundai/Kia. We don't have a Genesis dealership here and the Hyundai/Kia dealerships were just blah. If you're spending this kind of money for a vehicle some of the extra perks are nice. I first experience this with my TSX V6. I would take it to the Honda dealership because it was closer and a little cheaper. I had to take it to the Acura dealership for the Airbag recall, and boy was that a totally different experience. All the service guys were excited to see a TSX V6 and were extremely nice to deal with. Yes it was a little more but the experience and service of care was worth it. Plus the dealers I contacted were marking everything up 5-10k and acted like it was the best thing ever, and I couldn't find one close to test drive or even buy because no one had what I wanted.
MK8 Golf R - I almost ended up with one, kinda glad I had second thoughts. Someone had backed out last minute and dealer asked if I wanted it. It was black and DCT what I would've wanted. I was driving a MK7 GTI before I traded it in for the S4. The interior was super techy but very meh in my opinion. I thought some of the blue accents were too much. The performance was impressive for the package. I told the dealer no initially, then called back 30 mins later and discovered someone else had jumped on it.
Type-S - Close 2nd. Was kinda annoyed at the start. Talked with the dealer and they said come on in and take it for a test drive. Come in all excited to see it and test drive, to only find out its actually sold already and I could only sit in it. It does look stunning, honestly might be the best in the group from a looks standpoint in the basic form. They immediately tried to get me to test drive something else 2.0T TLX, drive lasted maybe 5 mins. Drove it back and said its not sporty to me, my GTI is way faster. Let me know when one comes in to test drive, as I wouldn't buy a car without driving it first especially after the reviews of its performance being less than what was initially stated. Interior was nice, but the track pad was meh as I preferred a touch screen. I felt comfortable with the Acura brand and reliability but anything can happen with the first model year of a car with a totally new engine and trans.
Audi's
8Y S3 - It was a nice interior upgrade from the MK8R, no one has any but figured the ride had to be fairly similar to the Golf R its the same platform. So I was worried about the comfort and noise after I turned down a R. However, if i was someone that was considering an R or S3 solely I would've gone S3 as the interior is so much more refined. It was more expensive but it felt more worth the money.
SQ5 - Wife really wanted me to go the SQ5 route. I was nervous about the some of the components. I knew if I wanted an SQ5 I wanted the sport package which meant air ride, super super nice but long term expenses were worrisome as i've heard that one can be more costly than most. I didn't really want another SUV either. The performance and noises were great, but at the end of the day i wanted a Sedan or Hatch Back.
Finally..
S4/S5 - Just incredible. Checked the most boxes. Fast. Comfortable. Refined. Cool gray color. Most importantly the wife liked it. I did spend some time debating between the two as the only difference really was the hatchback or sedan option. The S5 hatchback is sweet, but long term the lower roof line in the back and a little added noise from the "trunk area" made up my mind. The dash is very simple and user friendly. The touch screen is very quick and responsive. The Nappa Leather seats are stunning. The color is really cool with the blacked out package. The noises are heavenly. The ride and comfort is very very nice. It has lower profile tires than my GTI had and it rides like its on air. My GTI had the adaptive suspension and so does the S4 as it has the sport package. I knew the ride would be better than my GTI, but i was honestly blown away. I knew what to expect with a VAG product, and so there was some added comfort there versus the BMW.
Hope that answers your question.
Cheers

Congrats on getting the Quantum Grey color, love it too! Very close to Nardo (green-ish vs blue-ish on Nardo), but not an extra 4k and waiting a few weeks extra to getting it.
I do agree regarding the S5 having a little added noise from the "trunk area" ... but I "fixed" it by getting the sport exhaust option lol.
And I also agree in getting adaptable suspension. I test drove an S5 without it and you really do feel a bit too much (at least on crappy Montreal roads).

Wait that's not Nardo Grey? Very nice, oh and speaking of gas prices, I'm seeing over $7 a gallon for premium here in the Bay Area.

It’s great news to hear Acura is starting to do the included maintenance. This is a perk every luxury brand should already implement considering their clientele, I’m just surprised it took them this long.

For those who are in this car segment, did you come from a smaller car and would you consider a larger car such as an SUV for the next car purchase? What did you drive before?

I had a 2012 TSX which I traded for a 2019 TLX ASPEC SH-AWD. I leased that and traded it in towards my 2021 TLX Type S. It’ll be a while before I consider trading my Type S in but if I do it’ll be for an RDX as I can see myself starting a family soon enough.

My previous vehicle was a 2019 Civic Type R, which I sold for 21 TLX-S. The CTR was great but definitely had stiffer suspension and since I have littles one, they didn’t like that part of it. I enjoyed it and also had modified it but I’m happy with my TLX-S, although it could be more spacious on the inside, it works for me and my family. The wifey has a 2019 RDX, that one is spacious and is more of the family vehicle.
