It works

Just renewed my XM using the script. It works. I didn't haggle over the royalty fee, less than $1 a month, not worth my time. They asked if the radio code was printed on my offer sheet, said yes and renewed. Phone I used was 866-553-5425, read script, and sent to renewals. Thanks members.

Called today, told them i needed a better deal or would have to cancel. Transferred to 'cancellation department' waited 10 minutes. Told them I would cancel if no better deal. Offered 'half price' deal again for third year in a row. Total to be charged of $80.05. Could not get them to take me off auto renewal plan so I will have to call again next year or be auto charged full price.

Here is my annual, worked like a charm for the 4th time in a row. Actually this year was easier then last as I did not have to turn down 2 offers to get to the $77/year deal.

Just tried one of the 1-800 numbers noted on one of the "your trial ends" letters (got a U.S. person) ... was quoted the same prices as printed in the letter ... questioned the apparent "price increase" as I had only paid $77 each year the past two years on my vette and couldn't justify the nearly doubling in price ... and she wouldn't budge off the $142.45 price. Will have to try another number in a few hours. Never received any discount offers via mail, email or phone ... and haven't since I got the vette over two years ago. Will use the number posted in the op as a fall-back. Just fyi.

Called to renew, didn't want the $88 deal w/music royalty.
They offered the $23 for 5 months.
They claim all subscriptions are automatically renewed at the regular rate unless you call to cancel.

they are correct about automatic renewals-if they do not have the correct credit/debit card information or do not cancel before the renewal datethey will bill you 3 months at a time.

Next time you call tell them you want to cancel. They will transfer you to another department where they will offer you much better deals to stay with them. Go for either 5 months for $20 or 1 year for $77 if you can get them.

Hey all,

I am from Canada. Last week, my 3 month subscription was about to run out. I called 2 days before it was to automatically renew to cancel my subscription (but really to get a better deal for 1 year). The lady quoted me full price ($164.99 I think), I said not interested, she then quoted me $143, I said not interested, then she said the best they could offer would be $123 plus tax for 1 year. I said no, I want it for less than that. She said they could not go any lower and if I let it run out and wanted to subcribe again, I would have to pay for the activation fee.

So 2 days after my subcription ran out (today), I call 1-877-438-9677 and explain to the guy that I wanted to renew at $99.99/1 year and gave him this code: FTA9991YEAR (which I found this promo coupon online). He said it was expired and asked if I received it by mail or email. I told him I received it by email. He asked the date of the email, I said I didn't have that info in front of me. He asked what type of vehicle it was in, I told him the Acura RDX. He then put me on hold to see if he could offer me a similar deal. He came back with a price of $96.99 plus tax for 1 year! So of course I took it! No activation fee either. Very pleased with XM. But it really seems to vary between customer reps: some seem more willing to work with you on a deal and others seem to not budge nor care whether or not you renew.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Thanks for sharing...

Next time, you might try following the instructions in the first post.

It is script vs. script. To get the price, you must touch all the bases.

If you wing it on your own, good luck. As you found out, that often doesn't turn out good.

Were any of you able to get online XM access included with your subscription?

I forgot to negotiate for it, and when I called up afterwards was told it's definitely not included.

Also - Was anyone able to get them to drop the "Royalty Fee".
Sounds more like "Pure Profit". I made a weak attempt to get them to waive it, unsuccessfully.

JW: do a search in this thread for "royalty" and you will find several members who negotiated a waiver on this fee.

I have been reading these posts for some time now and have benefited from it. Thank you all. So far I have renewed three times. $77 the first and last two was the $20 for 5 months deal. This last time I asked about the online service and she threw it for free for 5 months. Doesn't hurt to ask.

So I was in a different boat needing the best of Sirius package. I just got something in the mail from my old Sirius account offering me the 77$ yearly rate. Since I was paying 18.97/month it made me hot. I called and asked what they could do to match this Sirius offer and the guy immediately offered the 77/year but w/out the best of Sirius. This won't work for me as I only listen to one station anyway (100) so after some more I got a yearly rate of $118.

So I would have paid about $227 for year if I never called so this is great. Thanks to everyone!!!!!!! I saved over 100/year!!!!!!

I've renewed twice for $77 and am up for my third year next month. I don't expect any problems. But there's a twist...

I have a new 2nd receiver -- a Skydock for use with an iPhone in another car. I haven't activated it yet. When I look to simply add it to my existing account, the cost is $8.99/mo. It doesn't seem like the script is appropriate for the new receiver which has never been activated (nothing to cancel, yet).

Does anyone know whether it would work to add the receiver @ 8.99, then call a month later to cancel it & run the script? Can the script work on an acct with multiple receivers? Or should I do a 2nd acct for the 2nd receiver?

They also want a separate one-time $14.99 activation fee for the Skydock. Any way around that?

Just got my fourth renewal today for $77 plus the royalty fee. The key words are "I want to cancel." I got the renewal letter with the higher rate and said I wanted to cancel before the auto charges went through on my card.

I didn't fight over the royalty given this is my 4th time around.

If you have some coin to put up front, you can do what I did and get the lifetime deal for Best of Sirius and online access for $499.... This was before the royalty thing hit, not sure how that figures into the lifetime pricing now....

Called the number, followed the script and they renewed for the $77 plus royalty fees (total $88.78). Super easy!

Will this work if I never had XM before? Or do i need to try a different way to get a good price? I just purchased a used 05 TL that the XM radio was working for a couple weeks from the last owner. Today it seem to have stopped working and keeps saying "XM Updating" when I change the channels and comes back to the " XM Info Channel" or "XM Emergency Channel"

Some folks have called and said they just bought the car and there was a flyer in the glove box for $77 a year. "I would like to take advantage of that offer."

If they ask for a code, they are asking for your radio code which they need to turn it on and to look up the record. It is on Channel 0 on XM.

If they ask for a promotional code, just say you are at work and don't have the flyer in front of you.

That works for most people if you insist you will not pay any more than $77. Don't even accept the royalty fees (unless they absolutely refuse you).

Thank you...It worked! Called XM and after a sales pitch and info on me in XM records had to tell them about I had a flier for the $77 and was given that price wiht no codes needed. (total time on phone 9.32 mins) I'm good for one year that starts after a 90 day free trial I was given. FYI When I mentioned the flier/price the XM phone geek said they can not tell me about that offer and is only available if I mention it. Also went on to say they may have offers even lower then that...but can not say any details. Hmmmm? It may be possible to get it even cheaper if we can find out more info like the $77 one. We should call and try to say I have a flier for $59 for a year. Or we keep record on what each of us said we have a flier for less then $77 to find that possible golden price XM will allow. LOL I said after words I think I have another flier some place for $29 a year and was told they don't have one for that price...but they do have nice offers available with no further details like they are told do not tell about deals like this but if we mention them honor them.

Anyone Have Luck Consolidating AND Getting the Discount?

So, every 5 months (after getting the $20/5 month deal), I have to call and threaten to cancel and I get the 5-month deal again. If I forget, they nail my credit card for a full price renewal, and I have to call and argue about that.

Since I have XM in my TL and my wife's Odyssey, I feel like I'm on the phone with these people constantly. Has anyone tried leveraging the cancellation approach to combine radios on a single account and still get the aggressive price?

What about getting them to add the online or iPhone service? I've had mixed success (got the online service for free once; but they wouldn't renew).

I'd love to reduce the overhead of getting the bargain rate, but not so much that I'm willing to pay their highly inflated standard rates.

im on the phone with them now, they are waiving my 51 dollar charge and charging me the 77 for the year, hes not budging on the royalty fee... im busy with school/work stuff i dont have time to call back and try again so im just going to eat the royalty cost, im still happy with what i pay.

Did it just last week - 5 months for $20 each on my TL and wife's Ody. Both radios are on same account number. I don't do the online/don't have iphone so maybe someone else can help with that. BTW, I'd cancel your credit card info with them or they will continue to auto-bill you high rates. I simply have them invoice me and negotiate a new deal every year.

I cancel my credit cards (call them in lost) on a regular basis so no one can auto bill me or use my number for very long if they get it. XM said if I do not call them at the end of my year they will auto bill me. LOL In my mind I know they won't be able to with my ways to stop them.

After 3 years with XM....

they charged me $47.88 for a whole year... traffic included!

My service was up, and I was about to call them up to fight for $77...

And don't ask me why I got such a good rate. That's what they offered me via mail.

Well may be worth calling XM and saying basically what I did to get the $77 a year deal, I said "I have a flier that says I can get a year for $77"....now that we now the magic price offered ($47.88) to others via a flier in the mail. Best if we have some one that needs to renew or a new XM user to try it though. If it works I for one will cancel my $77 deal with XM or cancel my credit card to stop payment since XM is not going to charge me till my 90 day free trial is done and I'll try it also for $47.88 in around 88 days.

Called about the $47.88 deal today; I just bought my car so I told the rep the dealer stated he had a seen an offer for $47.88 and told me to call. No deal; rep stated the $47.88 was for traffic on my navigation, then offered a years service at $208.00. I passed; will call back tomorrow and try for the $77 deal.

$20/5 months or $88/year (w/royalties, taxes, etc.) was the immediate offer today through the cancellation dept.
The regular subscription dept. wants $44/3 months for a renewal.
