so if i plan on getting XM services on my car, can i call them and say "I saw a flier for $20 for 5 months" or is that only through cancellation purposes?

what would i expect to be hit with if i decide to go through the $77/year plan? activation fees? hidden fees at all?

I called them last night following the script and then asked few question and rep ended up giving me three months of xm and live traffic free and told me to call back either today or next day or before 90 days and ask for 1/2 off deal.
At that time rep notified me that if any rep gives you hard time ask for the floor supervisor and tell them you want 1/2 off deal $77/year, they will give it to you.

But i was not able to add 12 months @ 1/2 off while i was on the phone, rep told me it had to be separate call.

The more I follow this post/subject it seems like the XM phone reps get some type of kick back on getting full price memberships. But if we are head strong on the $77 deal we are told XM reps are told to allow us to get it. I would think XM tracks phone reps several ways like how many dollars they bring per call and how many memberships in calls picked up and with extras like traffic and possibly give rewards based on that.

just renewed...

just renewed 2 radios at 77/yr each. no royalty fees either! i just called the 800-682-4114 number and said that i'd like to renew at 77/yr for both radios. i said that i didn't want to pay anymore than that and that i would have a hard time doing so. the guy said no problem. he didn't send me to the retention dept. he took care of it in less than 10 minutes. i think i got a good deal.

moral of the story: just tell the truth and it works!

When you wing it, it might work. Sometimes. You don't have to read the previous posts very far to find lots of people for whom it didn't work.

You got lucky.

It was very easy to get it for $77.00

I have had a 3 month trial subscription that will expire in late February.

I called tonight and asked them what rates they had that were better than the original $144.00 a year that was quoted me. I didn't follow the script. I said that I had heard that there were other rates available. She asked what I had heard. I said $77.00 a year. She said okay. Took about 5 minutes.

Mr. Jazz:

The point of this thread is... that YOU have to say the right thing and ask for the retention price. Some phone people are easier than others. But, THEY are not allowed to offer you the price unless you ask for it or say that you got a promotional price through the mail. The script in post #1 tells you the best way to do that that works for ALL of the phone people.

I keep stressing that this is not a publicized "deal" open to everyone. It is a last-ditch retention program to keep people on board who are canceling or considering canceling.

We do not want to spook them by saying things like: "It's all over Acurazine that you have this deal and I want it." There's always the chance that they will pull the plug on it if they feel it is starting to become the norm. Why risk it? Be considerate of those coming behind you.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have had to remind this. But, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" comes to mind.

I totally understand your point. I did not mention Acurazine or any other source. I simply said "I have heard there are other deals". The rep asked me what I had heard and I said I had heard about $77 a month. She immediately said she could give me that.

I appreciate all the hard work you have done on this topic.

Cheers

Sorry if I missed this in the thread, but does the $77 work if you're trying to do traffic/weather?

I second that deal. I currently have a portable XM radio at the $77/yr deal, and called to add my TL whose subscription from the previous owner finally ran out. thinking they were gonna see the $77 deal and raise questions, I was worried...but they offered the $20/5 months from the get-go. If you're looking for a deal, jump on this one!

Please scan or take a picture of the snail mail offer and post it. If you concerned void out any personal info (like your name and address and account #) Thank you for posting the offer....hope more of us can use it and with the offer printed or pictured in front of us when we call XM may be needed to seal the deal.

Called last night and signed up for the $4.00/month plan. Added Nav Traffic for $3.99/month. Did have to wait about 30 minutes on the phone. The folks at XM are actually very nice!

I have 2 cars with XM and got this plan for both of them. Also receiving a bill in the mail and it is not being autocharged to my credit card.

Does anyone know of discounts for XM Weather?

XM offered no autobill, then reneged

I've had the 77/year deal for a few years now. When my service didn't turn itself off as it has in the past, I found out the service no longer expires and you have to cancel it to avoid a huge auto-renew bill. So I did that, they turned it off, and I had planned to call in a few weeks to get the usual, better, deal.

A Xm rep called me at home last weekend and tried to get me to renew. I told him my problem with Xm is that they changed their policy to auto-bill at a high rate instead of the service expiring (which is how it used to work). He replied no problem, they have a deal for $20/5 month with no auto-renew. He repeated that several times, "no auto-bill of your credit card". Told him I'd think about it. Called back today to sign up for that, talked with several agents and a supervisor and they can't do it. Sometimes they tell you that there are no supervisors who can talk with you. So there's some serious lying and misrepresentation going on.

I'm done with Xm. The lies and runarounds are simply not worth the time. I would have eventually called back and taken the deal had the guy who called not made an offer that they wouldn't (and presumably couldn't) honor.

I let Sirius run out in my Wife's van. They just sent me an offer of $4.99/month for 6 months, no activation fees. Not bad.

It came via email. The phone # is 877-697-8376.
Not sure it will work for XM as this is a Sirius offer (no pun intended).

I went to those sites and saw that you can get directly to the retention center instead of going through the first line people by calling 1-800-998-7900. I said I was going to let it expire but I researched on the web that there were deals to be had for $77 and he said yes, he coud offer me that. No hassles. I think there was a 5 month $20 deal you could ask for too, I just went for the full year, less hassle. Just radio I think but I never use the traffic or weather anyway. I barely ever use the XM radio since i've burned in so many CDs, but nice to have when I want to listen to radio without all the stupid DJ chatter.

It comes with a new car but sometimes you have to call to activate it if the dealer doesn't do it.

If you bought a used car, call them and tell them you just bought a car that has XM, that you are unfamiliar with it and that would you would like to try it before you buy it.

It's easy. I've never heard them say "no".

My wife has the primary radio, and I have the secondary radio.

I called the number on the first post to sign up again for two radios (including my wife's), but they wanted $98.91 + taxes ($128.67 total for Florida) for a year. I called twice, and that was the best they could do.

I'm disappointed. I will try to call maybe two more times to try different XM agents. Otherwise, XM has gotten too expensive for me.

I just got two Acuras' XM renewed for $88 each... my 2010 TL has weather / traffic which they added for $27/ year.

I had let my trial expire on the 2010 TL (last week) and my MDX was set to renew next week. I called to say that I couldn't justify keeping XM on these vehicles for the limited time we were in the cars (which is the truth!).

They quickly transferred me to another agent, who they told me would take care of the cancellation. She quickly offered the $88 rate for each of the vehicles and then asked if I used the weather / traffic feature on the TL... at which point, she asked if I would like to keep that if she could do $27/year.

All in all, a very friendly (and chatty) representative. Not the best deal on the board... but much better than renewing at full rates!

Thanks, guys!

Bill

Just got my first renewal at the promotional rate - but the traffic they were going to add at 3.99 month - not the 27/year.

Anyone else hear about the 27/year for traffic?

Yep. No dice.

I think it has to do with the fact that my wife is already paying full price for it.

I might try it later today...

I just got a great deal. I called the number in the 3rd post and told them that if they gave me $77 with XMnav + Xmtraffic and everything package(180 channels) I'll buy 5 years worth. Gave it to me right away.

Did you actually buy 5 years at that price? Or they only sold you 1 year for $77?

Wow, I would have guessed that they wouldn't do that because now you're "off the market" for them to hassle you every year during renewal.

Smile XM Renewal

I just called using the script. I was transferred to 800-998-7900. I easily received the old $77 rate which is now $88. In 2009 an $11 music royalty fee was initiated equaling a total of $88. They couldn't have been nicer. When I originally called the number on my renewal letter they wouldn't do a thing.
