Exclamation Renew XM Radio for $77 or less for 12 months, Part 6

This thread, which has more than 200,000 views and 3000 posts, has been broken up into five (5) separate threads. This one is just the most recent to spare you from days of reading. If you want to refer to the previous posts, the links are here:

Part 5

Part 4

Part 3

Part 2

Part 1

Based on the posts of successful members, I estimate these threads have saved AZ members $ 175,000 collectively. And now, back to our program which is already in progress:

Thanks.

First... call and make sure they are not going to auto renew you and charge your credit card. Have your radio code and call the customer service number. Tell them you want to let it expire because it's too expensive at full rates.

Then, they might offer you the $77 deal. If so, skip the rest of these steps and take it. If not, hang up after making sure it will not auto renew.

After it cancels, then call in with the script about having gotten a flyer. See the scan of the previous flyer posted HERE .

Then call the 800-682-4114 number and read the script:

SCRIPT FOLLOWS:

"Hello. My subscription to XM Radio has expired but I just got a flyer with a special offer. I would like to take advantage of this offer for $77 for a year."

The old promotion code, "zwinback", according to recent posters who secured the deal, is no longer needed. If they ask for the radio code, give that to them. They WILL ask for it because that's the only way they can turn it on. If you had, in fact, gotten a flyer, it would have your radio code printed on it so have it handy. You can always get your radio code by tuning your XM radio to channel 0.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. Most people get it on the first try but others required 2 or 3 calls to different Customer Service reps.

Yes, you CAN get it over and over again. Many of us are on our forth year at $77. But NOTE: This is not a front door, well known promotion. It is a quiet deal to get old customers back who have canceled. If you jump on the phone and say that you heard about this deal on the Internet/Acurazine, you might just kill the Golden Goose. Be considerate of those coming behind you.

Lastly: as you will read, the SCRIPT works. If you don't follow it, you're on your own. Take the time to read the instructions for best results.

5th year for me!

I got a notice in the mail, then a bill for full price earlier in the month. Called today to "cancel because it's too expensive at full price". Rep asked if I would continue at $119? Nope, how about the $77 rate I had last year? She said okay, but only for one year. 5th year at $77 on my first try today. Thanks Acurazine!

Called in on December 31st 2008

Make Sure you call the number (800-682-4114 ) mentioned in the post NOT the number on the flyer they sent you. They sent me a flyer with this number 1-866-409-0296 and I made the mistake of calling that number, the agent didnt give a care in the world she would not budge.

A friend was kind enough to send me to this forum. I called the number and followed the script, the agent didnt even ask for a promotion. She just said "Ok what is your radio code?" Then She asked what type of credit card you'll like to use. I asked if i can get a bill and she said what she can do is send an invoice in the mail. It took about 3 minutes so freaking easy.

But here is the kicker she did not stop or asked anything else. Like someone said earlier it seemed like I could have said a random price and she would accepted it. Next year I am going for the LIFE membership.....if they are still around.....

I bought my '08 TL w\ Nav brand new on August 29, 2008. The XM finally died on November 11th, 2008. I got a card in the mail today offering "XM Everything" for $4.99/month for 3 months. I called the number and the promotion code was just my radio ID.

The operator on the other end of the line confirms my information, then tells me that there's no 3 month plan, only a 6 month plan. I tell him that I want the 3 month plan though. He then asks me how much the 3 month plan comes out to...I tell him $14.95 (I messed up the math, it's $14.97), so he says, "oh, ok, here we go, $14.95 for 3 months" (I should have told him $10.99, and he probably would have beleive that and given it to me for that price). I ask him if "XM Everything" comes with Nav Traffic, it doesn't, it's $3.95 more per month. So I said "Ok, I'll take it", he puts me on hold for like 4 or 5 minutes. He comes back on and says "Ok, you're all set, your radio will work again soon."

But here's the catch...I never gave him, or anyone for that matter, my credit card info....ever...

So I think I got 3 months with Nav Traffic for FREE! I should have gone with the 6 months then...lol

I got a bill in the mail. They get your info from Acura. Maybe not in your case but my TL is pretty new & the dealer forwarded the info.

i just did it this afternoon. called the 800 number. the first person wasn't authorized to give me the 77/yr deal so bumped me up to the retention dept (was routed to a call center in jamaica). the person there then offered me a 119/yr deal and i said no. then she said that i could get the 77/yr again (it's now my 3rd or 4th year at this rate!). took about 10 minutes including the hold time. very easy. just be honest and say that you think it's not worth 38/3months and that you'd probably end the service if you don't get the 77/yr deal. the person helping me was very pleasant. good luck.

On hold right now with XM. Have always paid only $77/year to renew. This is how today's call went:
What's the reason for your call today?
I'd like to cancel.
Any particular reason?
I'm up for automatic renewal and don't wnat to pay the higher fee.
What if I could renew you at a special rate of $9.95/month for 12 months?
It's still higher than I feel comfortable paying. I'd only renew at $77/year.
Then let me go ahead and get you renewed at that rate. Would that be ok with you?

Just finished the call. Done.

XM for another year!

Okay, just an update since there has been no postings in a couple of months. I jsut called and, although it took me three seperate phone calls to get through to a live voice (the auto system is horrible!), I go the promotional offer.
Although I was told I was not ellible for the offer so I asked to have my service cancelled. When I was transfered to that department I was told I was NOW elligble and got it. Keep up the good work folks!

Magic word is CANCEL and they give you several discount offers:
$4.99/mo for 3 months
$6.41/mo for 6 months
$6.41/mo for 12 months (= $76.92, even better than $77!) :-P

I did the original ZWINBACK in 2006 when I got my TL, then let it lapse into the full price renewal. Just decided to cut some costs today and boy was that easy.

I take that back - just seems that XM Radio Online and the main XM subscription are de-coupled now with 2 different logon IDs. It has been a while since I listened online.

Hehe, I just called in to cancel my subscription because they charged me $40 for 3 months after my year expired. So I said, "yah it's too expensive" and the sales person says "I understand times are tough, but what would you say to $62 for the year? I was like...."well ok, sign me up!"

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye out for the refund. Hopefully it won't take a bunch of calls to make it happen.

2 years in a row here. I went through the automated service, said I wanted to cancel and they transferred me to a guy in Jamaica. Told him it was too expensive and he offered 6 months at $38.95. I said no unless it was for a full year. He said that their only promotion for a full year was $77, so I said "Well I guess I could do that"

My previous $77/yr deal expired Nov 08. When I received the typical $40/3 mos. statement, I tossed it and completely forgot until signal was cut yesterday. This time instead of the 'I got a promo in the mail' line, I simply called up the 'cancel service' line and requested continuation for $77 otherwise cancel (I was really serious about canning it too). The rep offered 3 other reduced plans, but I stuck to my guns (respectfully). At last, she agreed to $77 on condition that I pay the one month balance past Nov 08.

I renewed - all is good.

Woo hoo - just renewed for 3rd year at $77. I was initially told I could not renew again with this rate. I was transferred and waited on hold for a while. When the person came on I told them I wanted to renew at the $77 rate or I would have to cancel. The key word is cancel.

Just wanted to post an update to this special deal. I called XM yesterday after my 3 month free trial ended. I told them that I got a letter in the mail for a year for $77, they didn't question it or ask for a promo code. Their only question was "should we mail you a bill or do you want to pay now with a credit card".

Thanks AZINE!

Just called three times to renew three radios - mine, the wife's and my daughter's.

Said the magic word (cancel) and they immediately transferred me to the cancellation dept, who promptly gave up the $77 rate.

The only problem here is no matter how I've tried to game it, I've not been able to get the $77 for a hand-held XM (Panasonic Inno). It's no big deal, since it's on the family plan at $6.99/mo, but that's still more than the cars.

Oh, well.

Just Re-upped for Year Six.

First, I tried the XMRadio Internet site to find out when my subscription expires. Guess what? They won't tell you on the site in "My Account" even though I am registered.

So, I called to find out it was going to auto-renew on Feb. 13th. I told him to cancel my auto renew. He transferred me to the Cancellation Department. I repeated that I wanted to cancel as XM was not worth it to me. He quickly offered a 3 month deal at $6 per month or a year for $77. I asked if there were any better deals. He said no. So, I agreed to the $77. So, I begin my 6th year at the reduced price.

There's really nothing to it if you follow the instructions.

Just got it for 77$ myself

Promo lady called me and wanted to give me 5 months at 5.99 or something. I asked if she had any year promo's going on and she said that she had the best one of 77$ for the year.

I said I'll take it. 15 min later, my xm was turned back on

Got a new flier in the mail for the $77/year in December, expired 1/6. Called last week and got the promotion, no questions asked.

No script, no nothing, just told them I had a flier saying I could get it for $77 per year, person on the other end said "ok", got my cc info, was set 10 mins later.

I just purchased an '05 TL, called XM, said the previous owner gave me a flier offering a year @ $77, and they set it up no questions asked. Took maybe 5 minutes total, and that includes setting up my account, getting my CC info, etc. Thank you!
