Hi guys,

I just called for a friend who's 1 year plan was about to expire and after 3 seperate calls, I was able to get the 96$ (CANADIAN) for a year with no royalty charges. I am quite happy with this price and so much so, the lady I was talking to said she was going to apply the same charge to my account when it renews in December,,,I had paid 96$ a year ago too so its nice they honor that price. She flat out told me that the cancellation departement have special promotions that regular employees don't see on their system..in other words, they have the possibility to make whatever they want to ensure the customers stays. With me, at 96$ a year, that is good enough for me to stay.

You think I could get my rent for $77 too?! haha

Man, that was entirely too easy!

First time using XM radio and I had the 3 month free subscription. It was expiring today so I called. I felt a little awkward reading that script but the guy was really nice and didn't question it whatsoever!

That artist royalty fee is a bitch though. $11.78, but no matter what you do or what price you pay, that WILL be included, courtesy of congress.

SCRIPT DOES WORK! SAY IT VERBATIM!! and you will get $77!

I just renewed again. Worked for the second time for me. First person I was connected to had no idea what I was talking about. I got transferred to cancellation dept and told them I got a flyer in the mail. She asked when I received it. I told her "yesterday." She said ok and processed everything for me.
total = $77 + artist fee thing

I got lucky on my first shot. My trial subscription was going to expire on 9/16. I called 1-800-XMRADIO. It started to connect me to the recording so I said operator and got connected to a live person. I told the operator that I would like to renew for a year but the price was too expensive and asked if they had any lower cost packages. She said they just have the multi year packages. I said that when I had my previous car I was given the price of $77 for the 1st year. She said she could do that. There was no mention of a licensing fee. She kept trying to sign me up for following years at the higher price but I told her I would call before the year is up and we ended the conversation with just signing up for the $77 for the year.

77/yr + tax. Royalty fee waived. No script, no nothing. Just said I wanted to cancel because it's too much. 5th year in a row.

Truth is I listen to podcasts so much during my very short commute that $77 still probably works out to something like $5/hour so I hardly feel cheap by getting the rate

Mine also expires on 9/15. No hassle, no argument; they put me on hold for 2 minutes, came back on line , & said no problem; $77/11.80 Royalty fee/$41.10 credit, which they mistakenly applied last July, when I called & complained, that they charged my Amex, before my subscription expired. Anyway, 12 months, for $47.68/no tax in NYC. Shot SCORE! FYI: 5th year in a row; script worked like a charm. Thanks, again!

First try no luck. They wouldn't budge off of $9.95/month plus royalty fee.

Second try got the $77, but had to take the royalty fee of $11.78.

Good enough

Thanks for the info.

I just had a weird experience. I called the other day to remove the auto renewal from my credit card - done. Then today I called to see if I could get them to renew me for another year at $77/yr (will be my 5th year). The gal I spoke to (very good English, BTW) said I was already signed up with the promotion at $77/yr and then would be sending me an invoice unless I wanted to pay for it right now. I chose the invoice route.

Sounds like they automatically just gave me the promo again. Fingers crossed she knew what she was talking about and I'm good to go again.

fwiw, I'm a Sirius subscriber. I know this thread is related to XM, but in case there's any Sirius people watching this, I thought I'd give my recent experience..

I've been a dual sub member of Sirius for almost ten years now. Both me and my wife have it in our cars. But between the cost going up to almost $300 for the two subs and us having ipods, I couldn't justify this high cost.

So I called Sirius to cancel. The lady was very nice and easy to understand She asked why I was cancelling, and I told her it was just too expensive for me. She immediately offered my $20 for 5 months for each subscription. No mention of the royalty fees, and I confirmed that they wouldn't be charged. No hassle, no haggle, etc. I was off the phone in less than 5 minutes, and for $40 for 5 months, vs almost $120 if I just kept my current subs, I'm pretty darn happy!

Worked perfectly to get $77 deal

For my '09 TSX, no problems following this advice.

Called XM Radio at 800-547-8118 (that was the number on the sheet I received from them). My service had already lapsed (out of 3 month trial) for a couple of days.

Nice lady. Gave me the normal programs (1 yr at $142.45, 3 year at $349)... I asked if any promotions, she said no, why did I receive something.

Said heard there was a $77 deal and she immediately said yes she can offer me that... she said she can't pro-offer the deal, but since I brought it up, she was able to offer it.

Cost was $77 + $11.78 (music royalty fee)... as others have mentioned... and I didn't want to have auto billing, so they will invoice me (cost me another $2... at least this way, 1 year from now, I will get a paper bill to remind me to do this again ). Also had to pay tax since I live in Texas. So total cost ends up being around mid $90 ($77 + $11.78 + $2 + sales tax)

Called XM Radio at 800-547-8118 (the number from the above poster). My service expired after the 3 month trial back in 2007 and thought id give this a try, and it worked!

Guy took all my info and asked if I ever had an XM account, I guess its been that long since ive had one. Told him that I got an offer of $77 a year, and he said that I could use that.

Long story short Ill be getting a year of xm for about $90 and my account trail ended in 2007! I wasn't sure if this would work for me but it did!

Thanks AZ'ers!

Just wanted to let people know that you can get the $77/yr deal without the additional royalty fee. I had to renew mine and, after transferring to the cancellation department, was offered $88.xx/yr which I think is basically the $77 deal with the royalties. I asked if that was the best offer available and they put me on hold. Came back with the $77/yr rate with the royalties and taxes waived.

Good info

Thanks, members, for updating with your recent experiences.

We can all benefit from hearing your stories.

So.... bottom line? Don't accept the "royalty fees". Reject them and try and have them waived.

Smells like "Dealer Fees" and "Document Fees" when you buy a car; just another way to squeeze some more profit out of you.

I never pay any of them.

Just called XM to cancel my subscription, which was to expire today. Was transferred to the cancellation department and spoke to a woman who sounded like she might be from Jamaica. I ad a little bit of difficulty understanding her at first, then I realized she was reading from a script when she said "And why do you want to cancel the XM that you love so much?

I explained to her that money was tight and that I might lose my job. First she offered me the $88.00 a year deal. I hemmed and hawed at that, hoping she would go lower, then she told me that that was a 50% discount over the regular price, even after adding the royalties and taxes to the $88.00 deal.

I wasn't going to pay that, so I asked her if she had anything better. She offered me a 5-month renewal for $23.40 total, no fees or taxes added to that, so I took it. Not the year's subscription I was hoping to get, but $23.40 for 5 months works out to about $56.00 a year. We'll see what happens in February.

Don't forget to check your credit card!

Long story, short - I agreed to continue for one year at $77 with the royalty fee waived. When I got my credit card bill, the fee was charged brining the total with tax to around $95.

The first guy I spoke to would not do anything for me after keeping me on hold for quite awhile. I was prepared to cancel (truthfully) if that was the only way to get a full refund.

He put me in touch with someone else (after another lengthy hold) who argeed to credit me for the charge. Hopefully, that will happen and I won't have to call again.

Dealing with their customer service has been a pain, and even if you can get them to waive the fee, they may not.

My XM subscription expired yesterday, so I called back today and followed the script verbatim from the first page, and the guy never put up a fight, he immediately said he could do that.

I did have to pay the royalty fee, but was able to get XM for $77 again, 3rd year in a row!

Just called to renew. I explained that for financial reasons, I had do cancel. She offered me the $77 renewal rate, and tried to make me pay the royalty fee. I said no, and to go ahead and shut it down. At that point she waived the royalty fee. With that being said, DO NOT be afraid to be agressive with these people. Their #1 goal is not customer satisfaction, it is getting as deep into your pockets as possible. Time for the $77 hollah!
Good luck.

JJ

I'm gonna try to get it for $60. Can you post a link to where somebody said they got it for $60/year? I'm hoping this is true.

Ok, so it didn't work after all. However, I just called and asked to cancel (after receiving an invoice in the mail) and they offered me the year for $77. I've been renewing this way ever since I got the car in 2004. Whoohoo!

Mahofo, your link doesn't work.

If you post it again, make sure it doesn't go to a "competing" forum (Honda/Acura).

^ are you sure.. lol.. I posted a "Let Me Google That For You - lmgtfy " link to avoid posting a competing board / forum link. I found some links to some Azine members who scored $60 / year deals but they're a few years old.. basically tell them you heard they were doing 60% off from you're coworker.. From a quick search this was successful as of a year ago.. I can't see why it wouldn't work now..

Another year @ $77 + royalty, but I always forget to cancel before the expiration, so I had to pay a few months @ normal price. My own fault.

I've had XM for about 4-5 years, ever since Opie and Anthony came back. I've been paying $12.95 a month that whole time.

My goal was to cancel to get the $77/yr with no royalty fee.

I figured I'd give the cancel option a try to get a lower monthly rate.

I was offered a low 5 month (forgot the actual amount) choice, but refused that. I was then offered 3 months for free. I refused that and mentioned that I don't want to re-visit this in a few months. Is there anything for a year.
I was then offered $77 plus royalty fee for a total of $88. I asked if the royalty fee could be waived and was denied. I then completely cancelled expecting them to waive the royalty fee, but they let me go.

I will call back in a few days and accept the $88 since I like XM.

I just renewed for $23.06 for 5 months after they wouldn't budge on the $77+Royalty Fees. Guess I'll play this game again in April.

ridiculous.. they won't give you a good deal.. but instead give you a better deal.. I wonder if they really think pulling in customers for $4 / month will get them to pay $13 down the line..

I called to cancel earlier today (subscription ending next week). They asked why - I told them because I couldn't keep last year's price of $77 and the new price was too much. I thought they were going to process the cancellation, then they offered to renew for $77. No other fees

Just called. I started the call off by stating the script exactly. Told her about the flyer and the $77 deal. She was going along fine. Then I tried to tell her I wanted this linked on my account with the other radio. She then went into a script telling me about a multi-radio discount.

I then brought her out of this pitch and said "is the multi-radio discount cheaper than the $77 deal". She said, no, the $77 deal was better. I said, then that's what I want.

She then tried selling me a 3 year deal. I said "Are you giving me a 3 year deal at $77"? She said no. Just one year at $77. I said, then I don't want a 3 year deal.

She then mentioned the $11.78 royalty fee. I told her that my flyer said nothing about the royalty fee. However, I couldn't argue this and had to succumb to the $88.78 total. I can't complain. Bottom line, it worked first time, even though I had to put up with a lot of double talk!

I just got a flyer in the mail for $20 for 5 months so I went for it...However something got me into thinking...

see link... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218064150191

Is it cheaper to get the prepaid card for $55 for 12months rather than the $77 deal???

I don't think this means its $55 for the year. Its a prepaid card meaning you can purchase the card as a gift for someone who can then use it as a partial payment towards a $77 year special or whatever you can negotiate.

^ BB says it's for a 12 month subscription.. usually it's just a preloaded card to gift.

$55/ yr is a good deal.. there's definitely some fine print though.. like automated cc billing at $144 / yr after initial 12 mos..

Thats what I read from the BB link, a $55 gift card, not $55/yr

I just renewed mine using the $19.99 deal, which came out to $24.40.

They offered me the $77 when I tried to cancel, but it went up to $98 with fees, royalty charges, and taxes.

I told them I didn't want to pay the royalty fee and they said it was mandatory. So I went with the 19.99 5 month deal.
