So far what i've seen of the 04, i prefer my 03 in the looks department, and that suits me just fine. My mind might change when i see one on the street, but for now, i'm content....
True, let's see the finished product before we say anything.
From the pics I've seen so far, I think the lines on the '03 are more appealing, more sophisticated, more Acura. The '04 looks like a common Honda.
I like the big body style of my 03 TL-S, not the "new civic" body on a suped up civic ahahhaha.
I actually love my car... and while the new TL has some nice features... I just don't think it's that great looking. Our TL's have a really agressive stance... especially when lowered. The new TL looks like every other car on the road since all new cars are starting to look alike.
I love my 03 TLs. From what I have seen of the new 04 TL, I'm not really feelin it. I want to see it in person when it comes out before I give my final 2 cents.
Is it just me, or does the 04 look like a 04 Nissan Maxima from behind?
AM NOT FEELING THIS CAR AT ALL!!! TSX LIGHTS, THE REAR IS BENZO /CL??? THE FRONT IS CADDY/NISSAN! & the interior is a mess, gauges look lame, e brake in the middle, and in the way! is that the shift knob from the 96 2.5 tl? maybe i can rape it for parts? the mirrors might look cool on a 99!? somebody wacked it with a BORING stick!!
I'm not feeling it - the back end looks like a civic, and front like a tsv (as someone already said). too bad they had to go and screw it up. Actually I think almost every honda is uglier this year than last.
I don't think i will buy it. But i will save my final judgement until i see one in person. Just don't like the look of it. It looks like a bigger TSX. So i will wait until i see the new RL. I hate when car companies start making everything so similar!
the more i see of it , the more i dislike it! (from July 2003) (click here)

Don't like it... don't buy it... buy a Z and leave... I M H O
I didn't like it at first, but I forgot who photochopped a drop and some rims on it and it looked hot...the only thing that i realy cant stand is the bend in the metal along the entire length of the car on the sides...headlights look hot and i like the interior alot.
ME I HATE the new 04, just 4 dat i mite not buy acura even agian. the car is so ****ing ugly
yeah, i don't look like the exterior look too much
i was expecting something more than this
interior looks nice though
2nd gen. tls rule!!!!!
I'm holding off judgement until I see it in person. A nice photoshop would also be interesting...

4G TL a buffer for a True Redesign
I believe the 4G TL will be a buffer for a true redesign of the TL in about 2 yrs. Nissan did this with the 5th Generation Maxima (2000-2003) inwhich they basically beefed up the 4th Gen and added better technology. The 4G TL has many similar features of the 3G from the front fascia to the interior contour. Acura seemed to have added a more up-to-date touch to it. The rear is the only part that seems totally redesigned but carried over from the Civic. The technology is gradually overhauled for the 4G TL but comes from the RL, RDX, and MDX. I personally dont think that 3G owners, especially 2006-2008 models, should trade thier cars for the 4G unless you get a excellent deal. That's just my opinion!

Wish they kept the character lines on the side from the 3G, like the hood line, front is still boring, looks heavy, unlike the 3G, wheels are very sharp, if standard or they are not the outragoeus price Honda/Acura charges as an option and the rear is still Nissan like, interior still looks first class, but need a better look.
Still thinking 2009 A4 or Infiniti G37s in my future...

Let's face it. Acura is trying to get Lexus GS $'s for this next iteration of the TL. They think that if they can make it LOOK like a GS, that the buying public will be fooled into thinking it competes directly with it and therefore the $42K price tag will "seem" like a bargain compared to a $50K GS. Unfortunately, I don't think a lot of the people buying $50K cars were foolish enough for the poorly planned ploy to work. IMHO you can expect that the sales of the 4G to be about 50% of those from the 3G version.

This new car has gotten nearly UNIVERSAL negative response and I can tell you, that wasn't the case with the 3G.

I agree. I found minimal hostility for the 3G during my quick archive search of our forum. And, I did pick just the negative comments to quote that were mixed in with many positive comments for the then new 3G.
My goal was to point out how the negative comments sounded eerily similar to what we see here on this thread. However I agree that the number of positive to negative comments are much different with the 4G (4G having much much more negative comments).

So disappointed in Acura, I was hoping they would spare the TL from their recent bad redesigns of the TSX and RL. To me it looks like the front of a camry (the headlights, bulky grille), the side profile of a GS (especially around the quarter panel, trunk area), and the back looks like the asses on the new Saturns. Horrible. Where did the originality go?

So I'm sure most of you saw the video and here are some of the stats that were mentioned:
18 city and 26 highway for the 09 base TL
17 city and 24 highway for the 09 Sh-Awd TL
My 07 TLS was rated at 19 city and 28 highway...glad i got that
09 Base TL- 280 hp/ 254 torque
09 SH-AWD- 305 hp/ 275 torque
The 09 looks ok from the front and interior but the rear is still a bit funky looking...I don't know how much the 3.7 weighs but I would imagine it being pretty heavy. Looking at some of the stats of the 09 G37 sedan that comes w/ 320+ hp and 270 torque it seems to still be behind. Atleast the TL has more torque lol but the weight might kill it. Otherwise, I feel it looks fine but it doesn't have the uniqueness it deserves (Like the 3G TL).

What I don't get is why Honda keeps stalling the launch of the 4g? They only release one picture then set the embargo having given all the media outlets official info and expecting them to wait a whole week before they release it.... welcome to the 21st century Honda.

Disgusting, I'm glad I got the 08 Type S. If they do a Type S for 09, I hope that fugly grill is at least body colored so it doesn't stand out so much. The wheels look nice, that is about the only good thing I can think of to say.

I don't doubt people will buy this new TL, but Acura moved it's target area and everyone is disapointed.
