Three Wheelin'
The look on the passenger's face tells me that car has SH-AWD and hp north of 300.
Seriously, with all the camo, it would be very easy for Acura engineers to stuff all kinds of extra material behind the camo to alter the appearance of the exterior of the car because they know the spy photographers never sleep. We all know how secretive Honda/Acura is about their future vehicles. Only time will tell what the car actually looks like, but these spy shots are enough to make me wait several months before I purchase my next car in hopes of more info on the 4G TL...

I am just glad to finally get something on the next Gen TL. Now we get to start all over with the speculation and the excitement like before the 3rd gen came out. I am already anticipating how this will all unfold in the coming months. I won't comment on what I think the car looks like right now because in all honesty, it just looks like a black tarp with wheels.

It's four cents now.....LOL
I actually did go back and look at some of the really old threads about the 3G TL......quite funny.
Some of the posters had some very creative imaginations. Everyone claimed to know it all and have secret access to confidential "Acura Only" information. The funniest was "my buddy took me to a secret parking lot (he works for Acura) where there were two 3G TL's in hiding.......we weren't supposed to be there and he could have been fired......" LOL !!!
It was funny (I mean REALLY funny) to read all of the "factual statements" that got posted - some true - some mostly BS.
Never judge a TL by it's cover - even if it is a big bulky looking black tarp...

It does say Ohio. Funny how they covered up the grill after the first pics showed up. Looks like quad exhaust tips too. Cool.

It looks like the rear half of the car is following the recent design ques all other manufacturers are taking... I'm not sure if I like it. One thing I noticed is that the TL doesnt have the chrome frame around the door windows, where as the TSX does. Maybe the lack of the chrome is what makes the TL seem sportier than luxurious.
IMO, i think the MDX-type grille would look advanced, much like the Ranger Rover front grill does. The Sports Concept 4 grill does look nice, but that is probably the next TSX and not the TL.

oh god, the front grill is looking exactly like the concept, look at the right spy shot grill very closely, the top is a large piece of plastic V, and the bottom part is mesh kinda honeycone....

I used to think the MDX grill was horrible looking until I saw the whole thing in person. The MDX has a very nice stance for a SUV and the grill blends nicely with the design. I have to admit that it has grown on me...

I know we don't have good pics yet but c'mon speculation is what this thread is all about. Kinda fun placing bets on what you think it'll look like. We all wanna be right, let's see who is. My notion still remains it's gonna be ugly! Of course people will always say a futurisitic car comes out before people are ready for that kind of forward styling and they'll say "yuck". Especially because they will compare it to the old one. Then they warm up to it and start to like it and the old one looks really dated. I admit I hated the BMW 5-series when I 1st saw it. Now I think it's OK. Same with the Porsche Cayenne, MB CLS, Mazda RX-8, X5etc. I bet I will warm up to the new 3-series and C-class too. But I still hate certain cars no matter what. The Z4, the 7-series, Pontiac Aztec, Hummer etc. etc. etc. My point is sometimes a car is weird but will look normal later. Some cars are straight ugly!
We have a couple more pics here but there's less to see than the others. Also to note is the wider (quad tips?) exhaust tips. They're trying to signal more power here!
The pic that tidus put up shows more to be a TSX. I bet the TSX will remain a more boxy rearend. Why? It needs more differentiation from the TL and already has a boxy rear profile. Because the TL will be based on the Accord and we already know exactly what it'll look like. The Accord has that steeply raked C-pillar as show in the above pics. Great comparo with the pics miki! That kinda styling on the rear gets me irritated. Only the GS does it right! The "dog-leg" is smooth and flows. The other cars do it in a more Prius/notchback kinda way. Look how similar the C-pillar looks on the Maxima and Accord. TL is gonna copycat but I bet the tail-light will be a dramatic departure.

My TL can do this, too!
Speculation re-assures your opinion
Those testers did a mighty fine job of covering up the test vehicle. I'm sure they also stick some foam pads underneath to deny the observer an idea of the actual shape of the vehicle.
If this vehicle is (one of) the first Honda design-free vehicle out of the new California studio, I expect something rather odd, but sexy. This will not be a car that will look "plainly" cool. Because if your product is plain, it's forgettable. Honda seems to work with that issue these days. I will go so far as to speculate that the design folks at Acura don't want anything to do with the "Plain Jane" approach. They can't afford to offer a forgettable luxury line. Case in point: current RL. That would be one of the reasons they put their stellar-looking girlfriend in a burlap bag when they spun her around the track.

You know, as I look at the pics again today, I have to woder - what kind of useful data can they really gather about that car when it's that heavily covered? It must have the drag coefficient of a sack of wet potatoes!

Burning Brakes
Personally I like the MDX grill. It's too early to speculate on the actual design. As long as Acura doesn't screw up the design, I will most likely trade in my 05. I'm also presuming the 09 TL will have SH-AWD and 300+ HP to boot.

So if the '09 TL is due to be released Fall of next year, it seems that we have a pretty good wait before we get some more concrete information. Does anyone have any guesses on when Acura will unveil the new TL at an auto show?

If we have a mule that cladded this early in the year, I would guess that we should be looking at the "concept" for the next TL at the auto show in January. What does any one else think?
#318
My TL can do this, too!
the antenna!
Hey, what's with the big ass antenna on the vehicle? Any way those auto spies could sap the info coming out/in of that thing?

Too much front overhang
Dammit Acura! The one thing I dislike with the current design carries forward. That front overhand is just un-sporty. Look at the competition (3 series, IS, CTS etc). They have minimal front overhang. Even Audi is getting rid of its overhang with the A5.
