Trunk very heavy (spring loaded)

When I press the trunk unlock button, the trunk will pop 1cm. When I try to lift it open with my hand it is very hard to open as if it was sping loaded.

Has as anyone encountered this? Is it possible that the spring that’s supposed to lift the trunk open got stuck somewhere?
any help on how to resolve this would be great. Ideally I’d like a stronger spring than oem so the trunk would open fully by itself after I unlock it.

Thanks!
Maz

You need to take off the fabric/plastic trim in the trunk and take a look at what's going on.

Anyways, the fact that trunk doesn't want to open by itself must be by design, as all TL are like that.

Take a look at:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-slams-940077/

I did something very similar to HiHenry.com. Works pretty decent

I faced this issue one year ago and broken sping was the problem. Hovewer it was proceeded by sudden heavy noise in the back.

This just occurred on my 07 Type S. Currently getting the two trunk lid torquebars as they call them replaced. Was quoted $140 parts and labor.

That's assuming you can find them. I have a 7th gen Accord, Honda no longer produces them and has no plans to make any more. And since their application specific, not sure if the Acura ones will actually fit. Both of mine are broken now. I have to use one of the broken spring rods as a prop rod to hold the trunk open.

You might be able to use the TL ones, TL-S ones are stronger than 04-06 base. 04-08 Springs with accessory LARGE wing are the strongest.

here's a link to the torsion bars for a 2004 accord 2.4 ex sedan:
https://honda.oempartsonline.com/v-2...--trunk-lid-05

Left and right springs are available if you scroll down

Unfortunately that's the site I used. They aren't in stock and they already refunded my money. Thank-you though. I'll try the local Honda wrecking yard if the Acura ones aren't available.
