Question Trunk Lid... Normal or not?

Alright - so the last thing I'm trying to figure out about my TL (For tonight anyway) - is the Trunk Lid.. When I pop the trunk lid, it of course opens the trunk, but only an inch or so... I physically have to go open the lid, which is of course a bit heavier (compared to the 03 accord) I am used to.

Normal? Are you lids just opening an inch or so and you do the rest?

Mine does the same - I consider it to be a feature. I like it because:

1) When it's raining/snowing, I can control when the trunk is open enough to let rain/snow in.
2) If the trunk gets open by accident while driving, it does not fly open, exposing contents to the wind and possibility of involuntary contents ejection.
3) If I accidentally hit the trunk unlock and walk away, the trunk does not appear to obviosly open.

Yes - the last two are bone-head manueuvers but they can happen to the best of us.

My father in-law's Mercedes S55 has a trunk that opens so violently it's dangerous. It has injured several people (one had chipped teeth).

I think Acura got this just right!

Volvo trunks open the same way as ours- I had two S70s (99 and 00) and they were both just like the TL trunk.

My trunk pops just a little bit too. I'm pretty busy so I'm glad that this does that so that I can get my bicep workout in.

I'd leave it alone.. All my cars do that when I only open the trunk like once every few months. It is completely normal. Years back then had trunks that would open completely without power assist and there was always some unsuspecting person that would be smacked in the head with the trunk lid as it opened completely..!! lol

Talking

I found that I prefer it not pop completely open. While heading to the car with a cart full of goods from Home Depot, our classic Florida liquid sunshine came on in full torrent. I was able to unlock the trunk while approaching, but the lid did not open completely, which would have allowed my trunk to become a mobile swimming pool. It kept the interior contents dry, until I lifted the lid.

Further, you may have read (or experienced) the need to slowly open the trunk lid when water is beaded up on the trunk lid (I expect your TL is also kept waxed!). Otherwise the puddled water gushes into the trunk, dousing the contents. So for me, I prefer the lid not fly open. I doubt it was intentionally engineered that way, but it works for me!
