I Pulled the Trigger

Well, after many anguished weeks of debating whether to trade my 2000 A4 for a new TL, I pulled the trigger yesterday and bought a 2005 WDP/Parchment Navi AT.

I spent a good while in my driveway last night listening to the DVD-Audio demo disk -- it was simply amazing. I already have 2 DVD-A discs (Blue Man Group and the 80's New Wave compilation) which I listen to on my home 5.1 system, so I am already familiar with the format. The car sounds even better.

Thus far the TL is exceeding my expectations, I just love it.

I remember a bunch of members (surprisingly) advising you to just keep the A4... and you talking about how you were remodeling the kitchen or something... but you just couldn't resisit, huh?

In any case, big congratulations and enjoy!

Congrats! Yeah, the sound system in the TL is amazing. It was such a huge upgrade from the stock Accord system that I used to listen to.

Honestly the TL is way better than the A4, in quality and overall looks; Great choice!

Off Topic: How badly was your A4 affected in terms of the sludge problem?

This is the first I've heard of a "sludge problem" so I guess I wasn't affected at all.

The sludge issue was on the 1.8T, mostly in the Passat's, as they
reduced the oil sump capacity to fit it in the Passat, under 4 quarts
I think.
VW recomended synthetic oil, the dealers always used dino, and many people
had problems after doing the 5000 mile recomended changes.

Some owners got lucky and ran auto RX or some such to clean out the sludge
before it plugged the oil intake screen and ruined the engine.

VW now insists on a bigger oil filter that adds 1/2 a quart, and synthetic oil.
It seems like most VW dealers do not know about the bgger filter and the synthetic oil, even after 6 months or a year, and still use the dino oil and the small
filter.

If you are missing ONE oil change receipt, they void the extended warentee.
