Trunk release problem?

Every time I press the button to open the trunk, the trunk unlocks fully but just stays there like it's stuck. It doesn't lift up automatically like most cars do. I was thinking lack of grease (if any) or old/weak motor for release? What could be the problem and the solution?

Thanks so much!

These trunks don't really pop way open like most. I've owned my TL since brand new and it's always opened just an inch or two. You can remove the weight that's bolted to the lid. Remove the carpet and you'll see a metal bar with two bolts holding it to the lid. Taking it out will cause it to lift a few more inches but it still won't open all the way.

also conditioning the seals on the trunk will help with it rising a little bit more. After I put 303 Aerospace protecant on the seals, the trunk oddly started rising a little more (1 inch or so).

you guys know there are 2 settings on the trunk spring bars right? i just changed my trunk springs to the stiff setting last weekend. pretty easy with a set of channel lock pliars or if you want to be super safe, get the oem honda trunk spring tool. it pops open a little bit more now, but yes its still far from some other cars.

I wonder if the stiff setting is for those of us with the factory wing spoiler.
