LOL you guys kill me sometimes

Truth-I want to do this photographer shit, which means I need a reliable daily. The TL is perfect for that, but my loan blows, and I don't want to have to deal with the payments for 2.75 more years, when I could use the monthly payment and insurance premium for parts to get her feeling like a <100k mile car.

If I got all new suspension and control arms, tie rods, bushings, motor mounts, and an aftermarket clutch into the thing, I KNOW I would be a lot happier with the car.

I'm sick of not really having a 1st gear due to traction. Sick of the overall lack of grip in corners. Sick of the sloppy and unresponsive clutch.

/vent

AND I really want to be back in an 11 sec car. 14's feel like driving a damn school bus around. So Anil, even turbo'ing the TL, or doing a sweet NA build like you are, I wouldn't be actually happy.

And as I'm getting older I'm getting cheaper and cheaper. Which is truly why I want to stay as a 1 car owner, despite knowing it would be a bigger headache.

Hopefully, and I've really got my fingers crossed, I can just get work in order again, get back on the bigger salary like when I owned the Audi. Go for a year and get teh TL paid off, and in another 3-4 months have plenty of cash to go get myself an FC rx-7, and then use the winter months to build it. If I get my old salary back, I could do it easily. But I'm tired of waiting.

Feel free to comment on my rambling.

And happy Friday everyone!

Dude, I love that you want my opinions, but remember I'm just a theory guy. I can visualize how things work, and what will compliment each other, but you have to remember that I AM NOT an engine builder, and really only know 'extensive' (if you could call it that) knowledge on a select number of platforms.

However, I'll try and keep in your thread and bounce my ideas around with everyone! Just give me a heads up whenever you need an opinion if I don't show up!

hey buddy....happy Friday to you too....

i just have one little piece of advise for you which i used to give my ex-girls younger brother...."try to love what you got"....i know the TL is not the Audi but its not the Civic DX either....things could have been a lot worse but they are not....

when you had the big checks rolling in you drove a "big" car (using big as a figure of speech, before Jer starts telling how the A4 is not much bigger than the TL ).....and now that your paychecks got low, you ADJUSTED....this is a very rare quality....and you should be proud of it....

things will get better in the meantime start feeling happy with what you got and cherish the moments as they will not come back again

and i love my car....loved it when she was at 210HP and love it when she is at 270 .....she has done a lot and i cant expect more from a piece of metal if you ask me....

and i completely agree that you get bored and want to get bigger better things....but hey you dont know where you are until you know what you have until you know what you have been thro....

so go easy on yourself....and plan for the future but let it unfold as it should....dont plan toooo much coz you never know whats instore for ya

Nice pics, Sean. Have you thought about getting an Evo yourself? I assume you can find them for fairly cheap these days.

LOL I'm pretty sure Nate, my neighbor with the white one, would want to kill me if I did buy one. There are at least 15 Evo owners in the group we run with, he wants to sell his just because of that lol.

I wish I could, but I think it would be a bad financial decision, since I would want to get coils, manifold, fp red, dump, a clutch, seat lowering, and a tune....would be like $5k in shit I'd be itching to buy lol.

Sounds like you and Nate should trade vehicles. It'd be a win-win haha. I agree...forced-induction cars are insano money pits. After you spend $5k+ to build a 400hp monster, you'll end up wanting to build a 500hp monster and so on...

^^^more more more, it's the american way.

and THAT, sir, is why I stop at go fast mods. I do the cheap and simple ones to make the car more fun to drive, ie. shortshift, stage 3 exhaust etc...but I don't sink a bunch of extra money in for more. Notice how many people spend LOADS on going turbo/supercharge and within 6 months, trade the car in for a car that already makes a lot of power, or is the right platform for it!?!

I wish he would go for it John, I could trade with him for a week easily though. Which I've been meaning to talk to him about. We love driving eachother's cars anyways. win win for sure.

yeah J, it's tough. because you can learn that your platform gets shitty at a certain level, or doesn't perform how you want, etc. Sucks

^Exactly. Which is why I stopped with the go-fast mods like Jeremy. I've learned to accept the TL for what it is...a sedan, not a sports car. It looks beautiful and that's good enough for me. I don't need to go fast, I just need to get to point A to point B and having an extra 100hp isn't going to help my 7-mile commute to work LOL.

I really should just get a cheap old bike to mess with.

beat the crap out of the car last night...so, here's a little video.

I still have ALL the jacks/broken wheel/tools in the back, and the shitty pair of tires up front, hence the wheel spin, and a loss of pickup&go-ness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52py1...ature=youtu.be

watching auto TL-S videos, it looks like the 3.2 6mt is quicker thanks to shorter gears.

I felt that way when I drove my buddy's G37S sedan a few months back, hadn't been back in here in a bit. Sorry about that...
John, was that 10 year thing my quote?!? I didn't think it would become a classic when I wrote it. lol...

For sure, we are just spoiled and we're used to it. I remember on the maiden drive home, I was in HOG heaven with how fast the TL felt. And that was bone stock.

John hush now, think of driving your sti and tell me you don't miss that feel!!!

I think soon I'm gonna weasel my way into either coils or PCD's/J-pipe and hope that will hold me over another 6 months with the car.

I got the rim the other day, never opened it though lol. Will get some pics for you guys though, and also reminds me I have to call teh tire place still to have them order my replacement rubber

Ahh...why you gotta remind me of the STi.

FYI, I have a leftover BFG G-Force tire in my garage that I don't want (235/45/17). You can have it if you want it. It has like 50% tread left.

Sean, as much as I want you to keep the TL, don't buy anything for it now and then sell it later. Go ahead and get rid of it now.

orly? the a/s or the kdw type?

I'm always in to grab a tire on the cheap. maybe then I could end up with 2 pairs of good tires, or maybe even 4 MATCHING ONES!!!! OHSNAP

I bet my car would feel great like that.

Just to play devil's advocate....resell value on any used parts he buys should be decent. If he got a used set of coils for like $600, I'm sure he could sell them for the same price later on if he wanted. Lots of good deals in the BM.

It's the A/S version. Let me know. It's got like 50% tread left...just pay me the shipping and it's yours.

well I mean, the older boys () made excellent points about it all.

I need a daily, and needs come before wants. So maybe I get what I want for what I need, and I'll feel less...forced...to keep driving something I'm not fully content with.

Plus, on top of all that, I have shitty mounts, bad rear tophats/bad mounting, need bushings on like everything suspension arm related, the clutch is original, things like that, probably have me jaded to hell about the car.

I've really be thinking of going to test drive other manual TL's with under 80k miles to see how much better, or hopefully they are similar (resale value boost), and that will help me make a more informed decision.

Sean, suck it up and keep the TL....mod it a little bit....makes no sense taking another loan and restarting a new loan term....

unless you wanna sell your car for 10K and buy a civic for 3K and pay that slowly....

"older boys"...
John, you better MLA or APA my azz next time!

Sean, you do what you like, but the same train of thought that had you sell your A4 for something that you had a different set of "wants" about, now has you selling the TL. And the next car you get will be the same. For what it does, the TL is perfect...and it fits the bill for a LOT of my desires for a car (NOT all). That side bike project for the thrill of speed is what you need (even though I'd never recommend anyone I like to get on a bike, it does quench a certain thirst).

Yeah, I know. Plus I know I have envious eyes...I see cool shit and want it.

I should just buy a bike. It will be a new frontier, something I'm looking for anyway, hence rwd cars..looking at different platforms, etc.

You guys are awesome though for entertaining my idea's and letting me ramble about them

Fair enough, I'm a man of the people anyway, my advice is free and not considered gospel.

Every morning or so, i see this guy on a bobber type of chopper motorcycle...it looks super old school, super mad max...bare bones frame motor chain and tires...i friggin love it. One day, I'll jump on that...just not in South Florida...too many dead bikers down here.

But yeah, Keep the TL, buddy...or go get the mod I got on Wednesday morning and you won't want to go any faster.
