rockstar143's '04 NBP progress thread (part deux continues after 6 year hiatus)

Thanks, man...I'm already thinking the red sidemarkers look a little TOO stock...plus, that introduces red onto the side of the car and it clashes a little with the blue lugs etc...I think I'll be popping the USR smoked sidemarkers back on with the red...that way it still has the contrast on the back (which is where the car lacked ANY) stealth and blue/black on the side/front.

Ok, my dudes. So, I think that AZ (not Arizona) has made me realize something pretty important about myself. I'm a little nuts.
SO...one little thing I did today, which took me all of 3 minutes to do, is to swap back out the USR rear sides...it ties the front white color together much better and to be honest, from the side of the car, I like not seeing red, I like keeping the rear just on the tails. I ran it past my aesthetic advisor and she agreed...
Here's a shot with them on and I caught my turn signal in action...bright enough for you POPO!??! Try saying I'm not signalling when I am now!!!
And not sure if anyone ventured over to my FS thread for my jpipe...but thanks, Anil, I took your advice. I started thinking about this whole Jpipe thing and felt like maybe I jumped the gun to sell it. I had thought I'd sell it and maybe buy another brand down the line. BUT GUESS WHAT?!! For all the other brands, even if they're cheaper, it's cause you end up having to buy a race pipe, which RV6 already has included in this jpipe. So I'd lose 100 bucks on what I spent on the pipe to sell it now, act all shortsighted, and when things normalize, I'd have to rebuy a jpipe. Dumb.
So, I had ordered this header wrap for my intake, mistakenly. So it was just sitting, Swoosh recommended I use it. I started reading about the other brand jpipes and it seems, due to the use of the flex pipe, they all end up adding rasp. I will admit that although my car sounded more tame, I did miss the aggressive and low end and the nice gurgle of the exhaust. The way I've been driving, I would never hear rasp anyway.
SOOO...I took my time, was able to loosen the 2 frozen nuts on the primaries (when hot, the nuts came off and the threaded stud stayed in!). Then I put some antiseize on that bish for good measure. I used Richie's nuts (yep, I said it) this time for the front 6 bolts and wrapped both flex pipes with the headerwrap I got on amazon for 15 bucks shipped. I used safety pins and such to pin it into place. I don't know if the rasp I was getting was from resonance...or if when cold, the pipes had more ability to move and when you'd punch it it would cause them to bounce off each other...but, with the header wrap on there, it created a buffer of sorts between then, although very little space, it muffled whatever rasp I had. I took it for a lighthearted spin around the block and it was fine, warmed her up, downshifted to 2k rpms in 2nd and punched it, smooth and MEAN AS FK till top of second, same in third. I'll share this in that Richie rasp thread, to see if it helps.
Anyway, I asked that my FS thread be closed until further notice. I'll revisit if I change my mind again...I left the underneath cover off to make it easier to get to hanger in case I do.
Here it is wrapped, piece of wood to give me some room to wrap:
Here it is installed, used a plastic trim separator to keep spacing while torquing down front nuts.

Jeremy, nice update.
By the way, we painted my Brembo's today and installed new pads. I used the Brembo stickers you sent-thanks again!

^^^I actually do, on almost a nightly basis.
PS, I remember watching that episode of modern family where she's making Manny chocolate milk...I remember thinking, OMG, that is so hot, I wish I could get that on a loop. Then Civicdriver went into my brain, stole the idea, and did it.

Nice work J, I knew you'd come to your senses and keep the jpipe.

Thank you fellas!
Yeah, I certainly did. I'm telling you, I was reading up online and the V3 is the best of the pipes and it seems others reported that all the jpipes may add rasp. Then I started looking at the recommended fixes and figured, you had mentioned it, and Richie mentioned in another thread that the wrap might help with the flex section. I'm not sure if it's keeping it from resonating, but I AM sure that it might be adding a sound insulator as well as a soft buffer to bump into itself.

My take:
Its difficult to take pics of black cars unless the lighting is just right. In most cases, the shadows have zero detail and the whites are oversaturated.

Fine. I fixed it, just to appease you.
I also got rid of the tilt that was driving me insane. It still looks too sharp for some reason, but I didnt touch the clarity or sharpness

My take - Edited saturation and vibrance. Had to select the car and edit the background separately.

Thank you fellas...holy fk, I leave work and my thread goes into a whirlwind!
Fk, makes me wish I had posted a high res image! I didn't have the original at work, so I used a copy of a photobucket upload. SUCKS because it was already dumbed down, then I saved it at that sized and worked with that!
Better shots soon, I promise...

Good, and make the high res! lol or just post the link to the pic instead of making your thread's page all weird.
So I guess I made the best edit?

..
I have an addendum to my repair/fix for my jpipe. As luck would have it, I decided that I should probably use some hose clamps to ensure the wrap wouldn't unravel. I get under the car and what do you know...that bish is already unraveling!
10 pack of 2 3/4" clamps for $9.87 at home depot...used 8 of em, 1 on each end of my wrap and 1 on each transition of the flex pipe, before and after.

Nice, luckily you caught it before it unraveled and was long gone haha. I hope that solved your rasp problem! Let us know!
#2634
So far, bud...I'm pleased...test drive around the block last night was good to go, I feel. This morning, driving normally, I didn't hear the usual rasp that makes me cringe. I'm thinking it's somehow quieting the reverberations or not allowing the flex pipes to flex and or bounce off each other. Happy as fk right now!

Hey bro! Don't be mad because I took 3 years of photography in school. We were the last school in the county to still have a dark room (super fun to work in) and the rest was all photoshop. I enjoyed photography a lot in school.
